Jaguar - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - Now's your chance to buy one of 53 road-legal Jaguar race cars - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

1991 Jaguar XJR-15 for sale

The year is 1990. You're a higher up at Jaguar and you want to get folks to start talking about your road cars more often. One obvious way to achieve this is by making a splash in the world of motorsports. Another is to take what you've learned in that space and apply it to a special road-going supercar. Jaguar did this in 1990 when it produced a monstrous machine called the XJR-15. It's a rare V-12 powered British beast with a production figure of just 53 examples. One of those 53 is now for sale at a shop in Surrey, England, called DD Classics.

Most enthusiasts know about the Jaguar supercar that came after the XJR-15. It was called the XJ220, and it was the world's fastest production car for about a year. Jaguar originally planned on shipping the XJ220 out the factory door with a V-12 engine sitting out back. That didn't happen and a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V-6 was tasked with providing power for the super coupe. It did just that seeing as the XJ220 reached a top speed of just over 212 mph. Still, some longed for the V-12 engine that was initially promised and those folks should take a long look at the XJR-15.

Originally produced through a partnership with Jaguar Sport, the XJR-15 is what happens when you let motorsport engineers develop a road car. Tom Walkinshaw Racing, or TWR for short, was the team tasked with creating the XJR-15 and it was the proper team for the job. The folks at TWR developed a cozy relationship with Jaguar starting way back in 1982. By 1990, TWR delivered a win at the 24 Hours of Le Mans for Jaguar. It was in a car dubbed the XJR-9, which is the racing vehicle that directly led to the XJR-15.
In the middle of the XJR-15, TWR installed a 6.0-liter V-12 that produced 450 horsepower, which proved to be more than enough for a car that employed judicious use of kevlar and carbon fiber throughout the body panels. The curb weight was just over 2,300 pounds. That power-to-weight ratio enabled a 0-60 mph run of just 3.9 seconds. Given enough space, the car could reach a top speed of 191 mph.
DD Classics has managed to acquire the car you see here, and it's a rather stellar example. Just 600 miles are shown on the odometer. The Mauritius Blue paintwork appears to be in excellent shape, and the interior is ready for the road and the track. If you want to talk to your co-driver you'd better be wearing the included headset for the internal communication system.

Should you be interested in acquiring this ultra-rare race car, you'll need to pony up some serious dough. There's no price listed for this XJR-15, but another example recently popped up for sale at at an auction in Australia. That car did not meet its reserve price even after bidding rose to nearly $540,000. These super Jags don't come up for sale often, but when they do the asking price climbs higher every time.

Audi - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - Audi owners can now enjoy Amazon music services via in-car infotainment - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

Amazon Music services now integrated with Audi

Owners of 2017 and 2018 model year Audis will find a new feature embedded in their car's infotainment system and the Audi MMI connect smartphone app. On Tuesday, the brand announced Amazon's music services are now accessible, providing millions of songs in Audi cars for the right owners.

Both Amazon Music Unlimited and Amazon Prime Music will function with the new integration, which is available in the 2017 and 2018 A3, A4, A4 allroad, Q7, R8, and TT, as well as the 2018 Q5 and A5. Other vehicles will not support the services, at least not yet. The streaming services will work right from the car, or drivers can access the newly integrated system via Audi's MMI app for a more seamless experience.
Amazon Prime members will have access to the typical list of content provided with the subscription, but Music Unlimited members can access the on-demand, full catalog streaming service. It includes tens of millions of songs and thousands of playlists. Owners who don't subscribe to either streaming service, fear not. The integration will also allow drivers to access music purchased via Amazon to play their libraries. All it takes is a simple in-car wi-fi connection and Amazon's music services await.

Streaming partnerships aren't uncommon for auto brands, but Tesla hinted this past June that it's exploring its own streaming music service. The goal, according to Tesla, would be to house an "exceptional in-car experience so our customers can listen to the music they want from whatever source they choose." It would also give Tesla that much more control over the user interface; the service would not cost extra. Such a service hasn't made it to market just yet, however.

BMW - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - BMW iNext due in 2021 could be badged an i9 - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

BMW Vision Next 100 concept

BMW on Monday confirmed it secured the naming rights for potential vehicles ranging from an i1 to i9, as well as from an iX1 to iX9, with the iX-prefixed names indicating vehicles with an SUV body style.
BMW also confirmed on Monday that its much-hyped iNext due in 2021 will be its “technology flagship,” as the vehicle will combine next-generation technologies in the areas of electric propulsion, self-driving capability and user interface systems.

Being a flagship vehicle, it’s possible then that the iNext will be badged an i9 when it hits the market, or possibly iX9 if it features an SUV body style. The current iNext reference is only a code name.
The highest ranked vehicle from BMW’s i sub-brand at present is the i8 plug-in hybrid sports car. The iNext will be a much more advanced vehicle so it stands to reason that it will be ranked higher than the i8
The iNext will be the first BMW to offer the automaker’s 5th-generation batteries, which will enable a range of over 400 miles on a single charge.

BMW i Inside Future concept, 2017 Consumer Electronics Show

It will also be among the first vehicles in the world to offer Level 4 self-driving capability. A Level 4 self-driving car will enable a driver to take their eyes off the road for extended periods during certain conditions, such as on the highway, and should a driver not take back control when instructed the car will be able to come to a stop safely on its own.

In terms of next-gen user interface systems, BMW hinted at what’s possible with the i Inside Future concept unveiled in January at the 2017 Consumer Electronics Show. The concept featured a hologram-based interface where the driver makes gestures in the air with their hand movements then tracked by cameras and tactile feedback given via ultrasound.

Production of the iNext will take place at BMW’s main plant in Dingolfing, Germany. It's thought the Vision Next 100 concept unveiled in 2016 to celebrate BMW's centennial hints at some of the iNext's design themes.

Mercedes Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - Mercedes-Benz X-Class camping concepts are for the posh outdoorsman - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

Mercedes-Benz X-Class camper concept

Mercedes-Benz has developed a range of outdoorsy aspirations for the newly introduced X-Class pickup truck.

At the 2018 Caravan Motor Touristik (CMT) show starting January 13 in Stuttgart, Germany, the luxury brand will debut two X-Class camping concepts: the X-Class Tischer body and VanEssa built-in kitchen.
The Tischer X-Class concept places a traditional camper body on the bed of the pickup. Despite its small size, the camper body boasts a 60-inch-wide alcove for sleeping with nearly 6.5 feet of headroom above the occupant. The camper also includes a 3-burner stove, seating for three, a foldaway bathroom, and enough space to for an individual to shower. Campers can also turn the seating arrangement into a second bed. With the Tischer camper body concept, Mercedes-Benz believes the X-Class can offer everything camping aficionados seek when gearing up to take on the outdoor lifestyle. This way is just a tad more luxurious, yet still practical.

If the camper body seems a bit over the top—or sleeping under the stars is more of a priority—the VanEssa built-in kitchen concept may fit the bill. The VanEssa X-Class concept does not include sleeping quarters, a bathroom, or any other creature comforts. Instead, it's a full-fledged kitchen stowed neatly in the X-Class' bed.

The 550-pound unit includes a coolbox, space for cooking and washing, and storage areas to keep pots and utensils. VanEssa built the sleek unit with pneumatic struts that allow the cover to be propped up at an angle of 45 degrees for ease of use. And it looks mighty luxurious, too; yacht-style teak wood provides durability and it's water resistant.

Mercedes did not divulge plans to produce production versions of either concept, but its optimism for the camper segment suggests the X-Class, which won't make it to the United States, could make the basis for a future camping-oriented product.

Range Rover - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - Report: Next Land Rover Defender to offer all-electric option - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

2019 Land Rover Range Rover P400e PHEV

Land Rover hinted at it to Motor Authority. Now it appears to be true. At a press event for the Land Rover Range Rover Velar in October, Land Rover told Motor Authority an electrified Defender off-road SUV wasn't off the table without confirming or denying such a powertrain. Now, a report published by Motoring on Thursday claims not only will electrified options be part of the powertrain lineup, but an all-electric option will be available as well.

Sources close to Jaguar Land Rover told the publication that a battery-electric Defender is confirmed for production and the SUV will utilize at least one electric motor with a powerful battery pack. When we pressed for information on an electrified Defender this past October, Chris Marchand, executive vice president for Jaguar Land Rover North America, told MA electrified powertrains and off-roaders are not mutually exclusive, seemingly dropping a hint before this new report.

The new Defender will not utilize the company's front and all-wheel drive transverse-engine D8 architecture or the steel and aluminum iQ-Al platform. Rather, the off-road icon will use a new variation of the Discovery, Range Rover, and Range Rover Sport's aluminum platform. Sources added the platform will indeed be closely related to the Discovery's platform. And the new Defender won't be a one-trick pony, either. Land Rover will develop a broad model range to cover hardcore off-road, luxury, and performance variants of the SUV. The iconic Defender 90 and Defender 110 names will remain, thanks to two separate wheelbases measuring 90 and 110 inches.

As for the new Defender's design, the report said to expect a "controversial" look to help the nameplate not only retain its rugged history, but also attract new customers.

An all-electric Land Rover Defender will fall in line with the brand's call for electrified options for all new vehicles starting with the 2020 model year. We don't have a set date, but the report said the Defender will be part of the brand's massive 70th-anniversary celebration in late 2018 before going on sale in 2019.

Jaguar - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - Jaguar isn't planning a V-8 for XE or XF - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

2018 Jaguar XE

Well, color us a shade of bummed. After long speculation, Jaguar confirmed we won't see a V-8 engine under the hood of the XE or XF anytime soon. Save for the wild XE SV Project 8, of course.

Road & Track reported on Wednesday that the decision partially rests on production volumes. Ian Callum, Jaguar's design director, said the company looks at proportions of vehicles to determine feasibility. For example, "If we do an M3 version of XE, for instance, they'll take the proportion of M3 to 3-Series and work it back from there," he said.

Callum added he doesn't agree with the practice, but admitted he's not the one calling the shots. So, we can scratch a higher-volume V-8 powered XE off of our wish list. The XE SV Project 8 is limited to just 300 units. What about rumors of a high-performance XF Sportbrake? Not going to happen, either.

2018 Jaguar XF Sportbrake

"We don't have a super high-performance version of (the XF Sportbrake), unfortunately, which is a shame, but that's the way it is," he said. And a V-8 powered XF sedan? There are "no plans to bring a V-8 to the XF at this time," another Jaguar spokesperson added.

However, all is not lost. Jaguar is keen on maximizing Jaguar-Land Rover Special Vehicles Operations' potential for more SVR cars and SUVs. Without giving too much away, SVO head John Edwards said we'll be seeing more cars wearing the SVO badge. Road & Track was also told Jaguar thinks it's conceivable to reveal one SVO-badged vehicle each year.

What vehicles may be up for the SVO treatment? The F-Pace seems like a prime candidate.
