The newly opened Brumos Collection museum in Jacksonville, Florida, is the beautiful remnants of a racing team, a dealership, and a distributorship.

The Brumos Collection focuses on vintage Porsches, many of them race cars, but also features an assortment of other vintage vehicles. The collection has been famous for quite some time, but it was only viewable by invitation. Now, the living history sits in a new 35,000-square-foot facility in Jacksonville that is built to look like an old Ford plant that also stood in the city. The Brumos Collection museum opened its doors for the first time on Thursday after a ribbon-cutting ceremony earlier in the week.

The history dates back to 1953 when Herbert Brundage acquired the rights to the Volkswagen distributorship in the southeast. He then began racing Porsches and opened a Porsche dealer, Brumos Porsche, in Jacksonville. The dealership would be involved in racing for the next 50-plus years. The team put up plenty of wins, too, thanks in part to legendary racer Hurley Haywood. The Brumos name became so synonymous with Porsche racing that Porsche created a special throwback Brumos livery for two 911 RSRs it raced in the 2019 Rolex 24 at Daytona.

Brumos Porsche closed its doors in 2016, but the collection of cars it had amassed remained locked away in a warehouse across the street. Now those cars can be seen by the public.

Those who pay the $20 fee ($15 for children, seniors, and military) will see an assortment of cars from the history of Porsche and Porsche, as well as other cool European and American cars of the past. The Porsches include the likes of a 1959 Porsche tractor, a 1967 910, a 1968 908, Steve McQueen's 917K from the movie "Le Mans," a 1972 917-10, and a 1986 962. Other treats include a 1920 Miller TNT, a 1925 Bugatti Type 35, a 1939 Alfa Romeo 8C 2900 Lungo Spider, a 1958 Watson sprint car, and Mark Martin's 1992 Ford Thunderbird NASCAR stock car. 

The museum promises such attractions as 22-seat movie theater, interactive displays, and a research archive. It's also a working shop, with a dyno and a machine shop.

The Brumos Collection will be open on Thursdays and Fridays from 10 am to 3 pm. Buyers will have to get their tickets online, as the museum does not allow walk-ups. You can get your tickets here.

Audi - Repair and Service Redwood City -Princess Diana's Audi is for sale - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

Noting it to be “possibly the most photographed car of the summer of 1994,” Briton’s Classic Car Auctions says the docket for its Practical Classics Classic Car and Restoration show sale will include the Audi 80 cabriolet presented to Diana, Princess of Wales.

The car “was once the personal transport of Diana, Prince of Wales, a car she clearly enjoyed, regularly used and was photographed in,” the auction company said in its announcement.

The car was a gift from Dovercourt Audi of St. John’s Wood. She drove the car from March until July, when she returned it to the dealer with 4,000 miles on the odometer, Classic Car Auctions reported.

“For Audi, this was a huge public relations opportunity, the most photographed Princess driving one of their cars, they couldn’t have wished for more. Audi later reported that sales had doubled once Diana was seen driving the car,” the auction house added.

After she returned the car, it was purchased by Ian Campbell Dale, a political commentator who sold it two years later. The car has gone through several subsequent owners but has been driven only 22,000 miles in total, the auction company said.

Classic Car Auctions expects the car to sell at its auction, scheduled for March 28-29 at the NEC Birmingham, for £35,000 to £40,000 ($45,770 to $52,310).

Range Rover - Repair and Service Redwood City - Is a Land Rover Defender pickup no longer happening?- Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

Land Rover made good on its promise for a second-generation Defender at the 2019 Frankfurt motor show. The Defender landed in Frankfurt in three-door 90 and five-door 110 forms, we reportedly would eventually see a pickup truck based on the new SUV. However, it appears as though those Defender pickup truck dreams may never come to fruition.

A “senior” Land Rover Jaguar source told Australia’s Car Sales on the sidelines of the Frankfurt show that plans for the Defender-based pickup have been scrapped. The four-door pickup was slated to be based on the upcoming long-wheelbase version of the Defender, known as the 130.

"Why would you buy a dual-cab ute when you see what you can put in the back of one of these—this is already a ute with a roof,” the insider said.

Although a Defender-based pickup truck would have been cool, Land Rover’s decision to bin the model doesn’t have an impact in the U.S. The new Defender is made in Slovakia, which means a pickup truck version of the SUV would have been subject to the United States’ Chicken Tax, which slaps a 25 percent tariff on all foreign-made trucks. Even with the U.S.’ insatiable appetite for pickups, a $65,000 base model Defender pickup would have been a hard sell.

Both the Defender 90 and 110 will be sold in the U.S. The 110 model is available for order now with a starting price of about $50,000. The Defender 90 will arrive sometime down the line with a slightly lower price point.
