BMW - Repair and Service Redwood City - 2021 BMW 6-Series GT updated with fresh looks, mild-hybrid tech - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

2021 BMW 6-Series Gran Turismo

The BMW 6-Series Gran Turismo bowed out of the United States after 2019, but the premium hatchback remains on sale elsewhere and just received a round of updates.

The updates largely mirror those introduced on the related 5-Series for the 2021 model year and include revised styling, new infotainment technology, and mild-hybrid powertrains across the board.

There are new fascias at both ends plus new headlights boasting LED matrix technology as standard. The grille is bigger, adding to the vehicle's aggression, and its chrome can be swapped out for a gloss black finish with an available M Sport package.

The big news is the addition of mild-hybrid technology as standard across the range. The setup consists of an integrated starter motor and generator that can recover energy under braking and coasting and provide a boost of up to 11 horsepower during high-load situations.

Depending on the market, two gasoline and three diesel engine options are offered in the latest 6-Series GT. The most powerful is a 3.0-liter turbodiesel inline-6 that delivers 340 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. It sees the 6-Series GT sprint to 62 mph from rest in 5.3 seconds. The top speed is capped at 155 mph.

An 8-speed automatic is standard across the range and all-wheel drive is either standard or available on each model.

In the cabin, BMW has upped the quality of the materials and added leather trim as standard. The infotainment touchscreen also now measures 12.3 inches across and pairs with a standard 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and standard smartphone integration now includes both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

The 6-Series GT remains the sole member of the 6-Series family. It was introduced for 2018 as the replacement for the 5-Series GT but failed to ignite the market as buyers flocked to SUVs, with annual sales reaching only a few thousand units in the U.S. While its long-term fate remains unknown, the smaller 3-Series GT has already been axed and there's a good chance the 6-Series GT will be too after the current life cycle ends.

Jaguar - Repair and Service Redwood City - 2021 Jaguar XFL spy shots - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

Jaguar is in the process of renewing its entire lineup with redesigns and updates, with the first of the new arrivals already here in the form of the updated 2020 XE and 2021 F-Type.

Our latest spy shots show a prototype for an updated XF, in the XFL long-wheelbase sedan body. Earlier shots showed a prototype for the updated XF Sportbrake wagon.

The spy shots suggest we'll see new fascias at both ends, plus a new grille and slimmer headlights. For the taillights, look for the graphic to take on a more angular design similar to what we saw on the 2020 XE.

Expect the interior to be tweaked for a more upmarket feel via the addition of extra soft-touch surfaces and more hand-stitched leather. We should also see a new infotainment system with a 10.2-inch touchscreen display in the center stack. The system should be faster and more intuitive to use than the current laggy version.

The current XFL, which is a China-only affair, has about six additional inches of rear seat legroom compared to the standard XF. The same should be true for this updated model, as evidenced by the prototype's stretched rear door.

The XF, including the XFL, is currently available with either a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 or 3.0-liter supercharged V-6. Though it's yet to be confirmed, we should see the aging V-6 replaced by a new 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-6 with this update. The engine is mated with a mild-hybrid setup in other models from Jaguar Land Rover and delivers up to 395 horsepower.

Look for the updated XF and XF Sportbrake to debut in 2020 as a 2021 model. The updated XFL should debut around the same time, once again as a China-only model. The current model is produced exclusively at a plant in plant in Changshu, China, operated by Jaguar and local partner Chery, and the same should be true for the updated version.

Porsche - Repair and Service Redwood City - Now you can watch your Porsche 911 or 718 being built...remotely - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

Porsche 911 assembly line

The "Porsche Track Your Dream" service for the My Porsche app and online portal lets customers follow every step, from assembly at Porsche's Zuffenhausen, Germany, factory, to shipment and delivery. The service is only available for custom-ordered 718 and 911 models, but there are plans to add the all-electric Taycan as well, Porsche said in a press release Tuesday.

Porsche customers get a unique link once an order is placed. It opens a web page that lets them track their cars through 14 "milestone events," according to Porsche. These include: order creation, freeze point for vehicle changes, production updates, departure from Germany, port entry in the United States, and dealership arrival. A countdown shows progress in miles and days.

While the car is being built, customers can check on progress with feeds from cameras installed on assembly-line work stations. Cameras are already in place at two stations, with two more to follow, according to Porsche.

The Porsche Track Your Dream app is currently live for U.S. customers, and is also available in Germany, Canada, Switzerland, Spain, and the United Kingdom. Other markets will follow in the coming months, Porsche said.

The service was developed by the automaker's Porsche Digital arm, which also recently launched an online sales platform for pre-owned cars. Porsche is looking to beef up its digital infrastructure ahead of a possible foray into online sales of new cars.
