Audi - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - 2019 Audi Q8 review update: Luxury crossover lode runner - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

Lights flicker underneath champagne-dry powder that dusts the old marquee at the Egyptian Theatre in Park City, Utah.

The Egyptian’s been here since the 1920s. Back then, Park City was a glorified, dusty camp attached to a silver lode; a long ride but a world apart from Salt Lake City, which is now a 20-minute ride down Parley’s Canyon in the 2019 Audi Q8.

When it was built, the Egyptian was a brick-and-mortar commitment by the boomtown to finer arts like theater and opera, surprisingly common among the mining outposts that dot the Rockies in Utah and Colorado.

This morning, decades after the silver mines ran dry, Park City bustles with a new kind of gold rush. Sundance Film Festival organizers scurry in the cold morning at the Egyptian to ready the theater on Main Street as Hollywood’s winter home. The sun barely peeks over the Wasatch Mountains. Theaters like the Egyptian are the new star for Park City.

Outside, the Q8 basks in a similar dawn.

Its bleeding-edge matrix headlights and dancing taillight animation are a century removed from the Egyptian’s original yellow-tinted marquee and decades removed from Audi’s stellar sedans of the 1990s.
But both have bright lights for a new era.

Crossover at a crossroads

The goal for the Q8 was to sit on top of the automaker’s lineup for crossovers, but there are bigger brass rings to reach for Audi.

The Q8’s exterior draws flared fender blisters from the Ur-Quattro sports cars and a thick rear roof pillar looks like the Quattro’s hatch if you close one eye from 10 feet away. Any other similarities feel like a bigger stretch.

The all-wheel-drive system in the Q8 draws a more direct line—it’s actually called Quattro—and is a full-time system like the Audi racers of yesteryear. The system is rear-biased, too, but the Q8’s 5,000-pound heft serves a 2.5-ton anchor to sink any further comparisons.

The Q8 is the biggest, most expensive crossover from a brand that will sell more crossovers to U.S. buyers this year than anything else. Although it stops short of offering bleeding-edge, self-driving tech from the A8, or batteries like the E-tron, the Q8 will be Audi’s workhorse now and in the near-to-now. (What about the R8? Even honest whispers in Ingolstadt acknowledge that the supercar’s time is gone.)
The view behind the wheel of the 2019 Q8 doesn’t bear the symbolic weight of Audi’s future—even if the car’s curb weight does.

Swathed in leather and bursting with ambient LED strip lighting, the Q8 glorifies and prefers deliberation. The car’s 32 inches of high-definition screens (12.3 inches in the instrument cluster, 10.1 for infotainment, and 8.6 for climate and vehicle controls) are all presented in widescreen format—as long, flat, and seemingly unending as the horizon.

The steering is similarly relaxed like an unbroken sunset. The Q8 hardly relays any drama through its steering wheel, and while the standard adaptive suspension toggles between Comfort and Sport readily—it doesn’t stray too far from the former, even if it’s in the latter.

2019 Audi Q8, Park City to Telluride

The Q8’s main mission is in comfort
.
Press the start button and the Q8’s turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 engine thrums quietly outside of thick dual-pane glass that wraps around a cabin that doubles as a sense-deprivation chamber.

Its 5.6-second sprint to 60 mph never feels rushed, and the V-6’s 335 horsepower feels confident among its contemporaries—quick but not groundbreaking stuff.

The Q8 shares much of its hardware with the Q7—wheelbase, powertrain, among other things—but skips the third row in favor of more spread-out space in the second row. With more than 40 inches of rear-seat leg room, the Q8’s best for full-grown kids or better yet, no kids at all.

The short of the long? The Q7’s good up until they leave for college. The Q8 is better when you don’t have to pay for college anymore.

That may be an affront to those who still consider Audi to be the poster child for all-wheel-drive blitzes up mountain passes, fueled by leaf blower-sized turbochargers and whistling wastegates.
The Q8 takes a bigger trophy for Audi: it’s easily the most comfortable crossover Audi makes and one of the best on sale today.

There’s more money out of that race-car fantasy and in to sales reality.

2019 Audi Q8, Park City to Telluride
Road ahead
Time for honesty: Crossover sales figures and brand heritage do less for me than experimental short films. When the Q8 is most exciting is when the drive isn’t.

Life, family, and love have given me more experience on U.S. Highway 6 in Utah than I’d like to admit in mixed company.

The road that connects the Salt Lake metropolis to Moab—or for me sometimes, a shortcut to Interstate 70 en route to Denver—starts with promise south of Provo. The achingly pretty road winds on itself through Spanish Fork Canyon, mirrored by the Spanish Fork River. By the time the road reaches Helper and its Indiana Jones-inspired mine carved into a mountain, U.S. 6 irons out into a feature-length bore until Green River. The Book Cliffs to the east provide visual drama to a drive that feels more likely to end at Godot instead of a final destination.

It’s here that the Q8’s comfort and quiet ride are appreciated more than its adherence to a bygone era of sports cars.

Although the Q8 rides on at least 20-inch wheels (21- and 22-inchers are available), the flashy big dubs are tamed to veritable pillows by the time the standard adaptive suspension is done with them. The Q8’s optional air suspension? Nearly mandatory for 21-inchers, and 22-inchers are hardly advised for anyone with a family or personal history of back pain.

2019 Audi Q8, Park City to Telluride

For hours, the Q8 slicks through the high-desert air as driver and passengers flick through smartphones and infotainment hardware. The main attraction is the Q8’s impressive three-screen setup that’s a blessing and a curse: more than 30 inches of crisp, beautifully rendered displays feel like they’re stuck in the white space between cutting-edge and out-of-date, when voice recognition renders a button for everything “that was so, like, 2017” in just a few years.

The Q8’s better trick is outside, in its matrix headlights that can illuminate the road ahead in ways federal regulators haven’t yet wrapped their heads (or laws) around.

The system, which can flood light into every corner of the road ahead that doesn’t include another car, was designed by the same man who penned the last-generation A7’s stunning curves.

In the Q8, the lights are another jewel that shows clearly the road ahead for Audi and its direction for premium vehicles.

Back in Park City, next to the Egyptian Theatre, the Q8 seems equally ready for its close-up as Audi’s newest star.

BMW - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - Learn how BMW used water to make more horsepower in the M4 GTS - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

The BMW M4 GTS is one of few production cars to use a water injection system. The M4 GTS sprays water into the intake manifold to cool down air for its engine.

How in the world does water help make more horsepower? That's the question Jason Fenske of Engineering Explained answers in this episode. First, a quick overview of the air intake system for the 3.0-liter turbo-6 engine.

The M4 GTS takes in air and it passes through the air filter into the turbo's compressor where it's heated. The air then makes its way to an air-to-water intercooler where the compressed air cools down, and then into the intake manifold for the engine. The goal is to always push cooler, denser air into the engine, which also reduces knock.

2016 BMW M4 GTS

While the air-to-water intercooler is effective (BMW says it can reduce the air temperature from 320 degrees to 158 degrees), higher revs and more combustion cycles mean more heat will be produced. That's where the water injection helps.

When two conditions are met, the engine is revving over 5,000 rpm and the driver floors it, the water injection system kicks in. A water tank in the trunk pumps water to the engine, where injectors in the intake manifold spray water to create cooler air. The injectors spray water at about 145 psi. The water reduces in the intake air's temperature by another 77 degrees to 113 degrees.

2016 BMW M4 GTS

As the water evaporates, it absorbs energy from around it and cools down the air. Subaru uses a somewhat similar practice to cool down the intercooler in the WRX STI S209.

This leads us to how water actually makes more horsepower. The water itself doesn't create more power, but it lets the engine operate better. With cooler air, there's less chance for knock, so BMW was able to dial up the M4 GTS' boost pressure to 21.6 psi, up from 17.2 psi in the M4 Competition. With the extra boost, the M4 GTS makes an extra 49 horsepower.

Range Rover - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - Jaguar-Land Rover nixes the V-6, debuts new inline-6 on Range Rover Sport HST - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

As we've speculated for years, Jaguar-Land Rover has a new inline-6 engine, and on Tuesday the company announced it will first find a home in the Land Rover Range Rover Sport HST.
The new 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-6 replaces the dated supercharged 3.0-liter V-6 and is part of the Ingenium family of engines The supercharged V-6 suffers from numerous inefficiencies, including the fact that it is actually a V-8 that simply doesn't use two cylinders. The inline-6 shares components with the company's 2.0-liter inline-4 engine, itself part of the Ingenium engine family.

Land Rover Range Rover Sport HST

Unlike the inline-4, the new inline-6 features a 48-volt electrical system that gathers energy during braking. It also has an electric supercharger that spools up to 65,000 rpm in just 0.5 seconds to virtually eliminate turbo lag. The electric supercharger then hands off to a twin-scroll turbocharger that is supported by continuously variable valve lift. The 48-volt electrical system also helps power the automatic stop/start system. The efficiencies and mild electrification help improve fuel economy over the previous supercharged V-6 engine by about 20 percent.
Land Rover Range Rover Sport HST

In its first application, the inline-6 makes 395 horsepower and 405 pound-feet of torque in the Range Rover Sport HST special edition, which is 15 more hp than the previous 3.0-liter V-6 engine. Those numbers are converted from the British figures, so the official U.S. numbers could differ. The SUV clocks a 0-60 mph time of 5.9 seconds before topping out at 140 mph.
We're eager to see where the inline-6 engine ends up next, and what its performance boundaries are. We can only imagine what JLR's Special Vehicle Operations may have cooking. Land Rover did note, however, that there will also be a 355-hp version of the engine.
The Range Rover Sport HST with the new engine starts at 81,250 Pounds, or about $104,500 at current exchange rates. Land Rover spokesman Nathan Hoyt told Motor Authority U.S. pricing will be announced in the coming days.

Land Rover Range Rover Sport HST

Buyers of the Range Rover Sport HST will also get a carbon-fiber trimmed exterior, red brake calipers, special badges, and updated color patterns for the interior. Satin Chrome gear shift paddles flank a steering wheel trimmed in suede and HST badges are also present inside.
We'll likely see the official debut of the Land Rover Range Rover Sport HST at the 2019 New York International Auto Show in April.

Mercedes - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City- TMercedes-Benz says an uncrashable car is possible - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

Image result for ESF concept in 2009

Mercedes-Benz believes it can build a car capable of avoiding crashes, and it plans to show its vision with a new concept vehicle this year.

Image result for ESF concept in 2009

Australian website Motoring reported Sunday Mercedes-Benz global research and development head, Ola Kalennius, thinks an uncrashable car will come sooner than we think. He spoke to the website at the 2019 Consumer Electronics Show and shared minor details about the company's forthcoming concept car. The executive said the concept will pair advanced self-driving systems and collision protection to create the ultimate safety vehicle.

He said if adaptable artificial intelligence that constantly learns controls the car, and cloud computing is able to see everything at once, there's not a single reason why a car should crash—or worse, a human die in a wreck.

Mercedes-Benz showed off the ESF concept in 2009, which featured everything safety-related the brand could stuff into an S-Class at the time. Ten years later, it appears the German luxury brand will have another go, with plenty more autonomous driving systems. However, Kalennius wouldn't say if the latest concept would be based on an S-Class again, or if it would be an entirely new design. It'll be a "jaw-dropper," nonetheless, he said.

The executive did note that a handful of the technologies planned to be showcased on the concept are quite close to series production. He said the engineers' work amazed him and underscored the concept wouldn't be an entirely far-out future vision, but something near-term to reduce car wrecks.

As for when he believes cars will take over driving from humans, Kalennius didn't venture a guess. He does believe cities will drive the major change in mobility before it spreads to less-congested areas.

Volvo has had a similar vision. In 2008, the company revealed its Vision 2020 plan, which has the bold goal of nobody dying in a Volvo vehicle by the year 2020. The plan has three aspects: make the cars safe in case of a crash, give them lots of features to avoid a crash, and finally introduce autonomous driving, which will be safer than human drivers. Volvo may not achieve that goal in what is now just less than two years' time, but the idea is similar to what Mercedes envisions.

Jaguar - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - Jaguar F-Type kicks the stick-shift option- Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

The sun has set on the Jaguar F-Type's manual transmission option. After poor take rates in North America, Jaguar has nixed the stick-shift option for the 2020 model year.

Car and Driver reported Wednesday that based on the number of new and used models currently on sale, buyers opt for the three-pedal setup just 4 percent of the time. To Jaguar, that likely no longer made it feasible to continue production of the manual transmission. The brand appeased enthusiasts in 2016 with the addition of a manual gearbox only to see it gain little traction stateside. Apparently, all of the hoopla didn't translate to many sales. In the United Kingdom, however, the manual transmission will live on in the F-Type.
The row-your-own option was previously reserved for 3.0-liter supercharged V-6 powered F-Types with rear-wheel drive only. All other models received an 8-speed automatic transmission, and that will be the only choice moving forward.

2019 Jaguar F-Type

News of the manual transmission's demise for the still-suave F-Type follows updated prices for the 2020 models. Base models with the 2.0-liter turbo-4 engine cost $880 more at $62,625, while P340 and R-Dynamic models with the 380-horsepower V-6 cost $980 more than last year at $72,125 and $85,325, respectively. The range-topping F-Type R sees an identical price hike of $980 for a grand total of $102,825.

Jaguar also announced it is adding an F-Type Checkered Flag Limited Edition model to the lineup for 2020. The car adds a few racy accents such as the Black Design Pack and extended side sills for a wider look. Unique badging is present, as is a black-contrast roof. The special edition model starts at $72,925 for a 2.0-liter coupe and rises to $95,525 for a V-6-powered version.

While we're sad to see the manual transmission gofrom the British sports car, we're still enthused the brand has stuck by the stunning-looking piece of machinery for six model years now.

Porsche - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - Porsche counts down its top 5 fastest street-legal cars - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

Porsche knows a thing or two about building sports cars, but the brand's "Top 5" series returns with an episode dedicated to the fastest among the marque's historic portfolio.

Related image

The fifth spot goes to a bread-and-butter Porsche model, the current 911 Turbo S. With a twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter flat-6 engine pumping 580 horsepower, the sports car easily cracks 205 mph. Not only can it run to incredibly high speeds, it'll clip the 0-62 mph sprint in just 2.9 seconds.

'Image result for porsche carrera gt

We quickly move into supercar territory with No. 4. The Porsche Carrera GT. The "oughties" darling packs a 5.7-liter V-10 engine and 612 hp. With the massive engine onboard, the Carrera GT tops out at 207 mph. However, the 0-62 mph is one second slower than the 911 Turbo S at 3.9 seconds. This competition is measured by top speed, though, so it comes in fourth.

Image result for porsche 959 s

Yet, No. 3 isn't a modern supercar. It's the Porsche 959 S, which many consider the world's first supercar. In the mid-1980s, the 959 produced somewhere around 515 hp from a 2.8-liter twin-turbocharged flat-6. We say "somewhere" because each of the 29 customers was able to choose their final horsepower output, and no two were the same. Porsche pegs a 515 hp model to achieve a top speed of 210 mph. That may be the most impressive figure on this list.

Image result for porsche 911 gt2rs

The runner up is no surprise. It's the 911 GT2 RS. With a 3.8-liter twin-turbo flat-6 engine and 690 hp on tap, the current range-topping 911 will max out at 211 mph. For those looking for 0-62 mph thrills, the figure comes in only 2.8 seconds. The GT2 RS also held two Nürburgring Nordscheife lap records for production cars.

Image result for porsche 918 spyder

Finally, No. 1 is the modern-day Porsche hypercar—the 918 Spyder. A 4.6-liter naturally aspirated V-8 engine provides most of the gusto, but it works in concert with two electric motors. The combined output is a staggering 887 hp, which propels the car to a top speed of 214 mph.

Take a look at the cars in action in the video above, and dream about your favorite in your garage.

Audi - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - Decision to bring Audi RS 6, A6 Avant to US coming soon - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

Audi plans to make a decision on whether it will introduce a new generation of the A6 Avant and the hotter RS 6 Avant for the U.S. market soon.

CarBuzz initially reported in January that its own source was told by Audi executives that the company had given both wagon models the green light for the U.S., and that they will arrive with the next RS 7 Sportback. However, Audi spokesman Mark Dahncke told Motor Authority on Monday that information is not correct. He said that Audi is actively considering bringing both the regular A6 Avant and RS 6 Avant to the U.S. with the next-generation models, but there has not been a final decision. He added Audi has seen the enthusiasm for the models.

It's clear Audi wants to bring the models here, but it sounds like the internal business case for the wagons needs to be made. Dahncke said a decision is coming internally in the near future.

2018 Audi RS6 Avant Nogaro Edition

In 2016, Audi spokesman Anthony Garbis explained to MA at the 2017 Allroad launch why the current A6 Avant and A6 Allroad didn't make their way to the U.S. It came down to price positioning. Garbis said Americans hadn't shown a desire for wagons and instead steered toward crossovers. He added the A6 Avant would probably cost around $60,000 or $70,000 if it were sold here, which is Q7 money. Garbis asked rhetorically how Audi could justify importing the A6 Avant and A6 Allroad if Americans would likely choose the Q7 at the same price.

However, last year, Audi of America Vice President of Product Management Filip Brabec told Motor Trend the brand was listening intently to the voices clamoring for the RS 6. "Keep writing letters," he said, and acknowledged internal discussion about bringing the wagon to the U.S.

The next-generation RS 6 Avant will likely pack a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 engine with 650 horsepower. An RS 6 Performance variant could crank out 700 hp with the addition of an electric motor. Spy shots from last June showed Audi is in early development stages for the performance wagon.
Maybe, just maybe, Americans will get to sample what has been forbidden fruit in the future.

BMW - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - Speedy SUVs - BMW teases first X3M and X4M - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

BMW X3 M and X4 M prototypes

The wait is nearly over for the new BMW X3 M and X4 M. Last Friday, BMW teased both performance SUVs and added to stay tuned as we approach the vehicles' respective debuts.

BMW's flashy teaser video shows off both the X3 M and X4 M in camouflage but doesn't reveal anything we haven't seen before. Last September, the brand gave us a very good look at both SUVs with official photos of prototypes testing. The closer look of both models came at that weekend's DTM race at the Nürburging where BMW also said both vehicles will feature a newly developed inline-6 engine.

BMW X3 M and X4 M prototypes

Following the information we learned then, where BMW called the engine high-revving in nature, the brand repeated the characteristic in the teaser video's description. We know the new engine will be turbocharged, and it will likely also find a home in the next BMW M3 and M4 models. It should also make over 450 horsepower.

The new inline-6 engine will be married to an 8-speed automatic transmission and an M-specific version of the xDrive all-wheel-drive system. The system made its debut in the 2018 M5 sedan, which gives the car the ability to split torque not only between the front and rear axles, but also the rear wheels themselves. We can only hope the X3 M and X4 M offer the same capability to shift into a rear-wheel-drive mode, just like in the M5.

Both SUVs will wear typical M styling cues, such as quad exhaust tips, larger air intakes, functional aerodynamic components, and large wheels that fit equally big brakes.

There's a good chance we'll see the speedy SUVs debut at the 2019 Geneva International Motor Show next month, and we'll likely learn more in the weeks to come if that is the case. Stay tuned.

Range Rover - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - Land Rover Nixes Plans for an Ultra-Luxurious Range Rover SV Coupe - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

2019 Land Rover Range Rover SV Coupe

The Land Rover Range Rover SV coupe is dead before it truly ever took its first breath. The British luxury SUV maker confirmed the ultra-posh two-door model will not enter production.

Auto Express first reported on the Range Rover SV coupe's premature death and confirmed the decision with Land Rover on Wednesday. The brand showed off the jaw-dropping SUV at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show and intended to build 999 examples for the world. The vehicle came from Jaguar Land Rover Special Vehicle Operations and carried over just two body panels from the standard Range Rover model.

2019 Land Rover Range Rover SV Coupe

A source told the website the decision to cancel production of the limited-run SUV coupe was not related to demand. Instead, we can speculate cost cutting killed the SVO project. Jaguar-Land Rover announced earlier this month that it would cut 4,500 jobs globally as it begins to implement a $3.2 billion cost-cutting plan to boost savings and cash flow through 2020.

2019 Land Rover Range Rover SV Coupe

A Land Rover spokesperson told Auto Express, "we’re focusing our resources and investment on the next generation of world-class products." The statement added SVO will continue to develop "exciting cars" and mentioned the first Jaguar F-Pace SVR models will reach customers in a few weeks. Still, the decision is a setback for the skunkworks inside the British automaker.

When Land Rover revealed the Range Rover SV, it was set to cost $295,000 to start. The report claims some customers had specified their Range Rover SVs to cost upward of $447,000. The brand did not say how many build slots it ultimately sold of the 999 units planned, but it's a shame the SUV's elegance will never grace the road.

Mercedes - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City- Things you need to know about the 2019 Mercedes-Benz G550 and AMG G63 - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

2019 Mercedes-Benz G550

The 2019 Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen doesn’t look much different than the boxy SUVs from each of the 40 years preceding it. Typically, if a vehicle is indistinguishable from its predecessors, that’s a bad thing.
The Mercedes-Benz G-Class is anything but typical.

I went to San Diego, California to spend some time with both the 2019 Mercedes-Benz G550 and AMG G63 to see what’s different, and in this case, if change is good.

Here are 8 things you need to know about the 2019 Mercedes-Benz G550 and AMG G63.

2019 Mercedes-AMG G63

This is some black magic

The G550 drives like the old G-Class, but better. The extra 4.8 inches of width and 2.1 inches of length combined with a stiffer structure, weight loss of 375 pounds, and independent front suspension that replaced the old solid axle give the bruiser a new confident, stable feel the old G lacked.

But it’s the AMG G63 model that is unbelievable, a rare feat. With softer springs up front combined with stiffer damper tune both front and rear, an anti-roll bar in the rear and a stiffer anti-roll bar up front, the AMG G63 doesn’t just handle, it carves corners. It’s an unreal, and surreal, experience carving corners in a Mercedes G-Class. Corners can be taken far faster than physics, and science, should allow.

2019 Mercedes-Benz G550

2019 Mercedes-AMG G63
Still conquers rocks

Don’t think that because the new G-Class is far more capable on-road that it’s lost anything off road. All Gs now sport 9.5-inches of ground clearance (up 0.2 inches), and the AMG G63 has three off-road programs (trail, sand, and rock) while the G550 has one (G-Mode). The three locking differentials are still on board, though the metal rocker switches have been updated to plastic buttons, which is a shame.
For 2019, the G550 comes standard with 18-inch wheels (19- and 20-inchers are available), but factory-approved 18-inch Falken Wildpeak all-terrain tires won’t be available until the 2020 model year for off-road adventures.

The G63 launches for 2019 with 21-inch wheels (22-inchers are available), and AMG is still hard at work on an approved 18-inch all-terrain setup that it will rubber stamp.
If the new G can’t get to Grandma’s house, there’s been a serious miscalculation.

2019 Mercedes-Benz G550

The bull comes standard

All 2019 G-Classes come standard with bull bars. Yes, seriously.
The G550’s goes around the upper grille and headlights while the AMG G63s only goes around the lower grilles.

Mercedes-Benz told Motor Authority the bull bars are standard and that’s how they were certified and tested for sale in the U.S., but that could change in the future.

Off-roaders will be dismayed to learn the design of the G550’s bull bar interferes with the surround-view camera system, so only the AMG G63 model has that very handy feature.

2019 Mercedes-AMG G63 muscles in with 577 horsepower

Finally, cup holders
The G-Class finally has cupholders.

The previous G-Class was never designed for Americans and their Big Gulps. The G-Class didn’t officially come to the U.S. until 2002, and its solution for America's need for cup holders was less than ideal: an attachment to the center console on the passenger side that dangled a Starbucks cup nervously.
The new G-Class has two cupholders front and center ahead of the gear selector like most modern cars just waiting for that morning Frappuccino from Starbucks.

Leather, wood, metal, oh my

The G-Class is as tough as ever, but the interior is now as plush as it can be—for a G-Class. Quilted leather adorns the seats and door panels, real wood is on the grab handle for those “Oh crap” moments, and there’s bits of real metal about the cabin.

There’s also some cheap plastic that’s been made to look like brushed aluminum. Lots of it. Particularly around the air vents on the dashboard. It’s a sour point in an otherwise exquisite interior.

Still a vault
Only three things carried over from the old G-Class to the new G-Class: door locks, spare wheel cover, and headlamp washers. The latter two no one will really care, but the first one, people care.

Mercedes-Benz said that’s the first question current G-Class owners asked: Does it still have the same locks?

Unlock the G and there’s an absurdly loud click as the locks rotate open. Grab the door handle, click the button and the door releases. It’s one of the most satisfying feelings in the automotive universe. Slam the door shut and it sounds like a vault closing. Lock the doors and it sounds like a vault locking.

Side pipes, because side pipes

Both the G550 and AMG 63 are powered by a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 that sends power to all four wheels at all times via a 9-speed automatic transmission. In the G550, this setup is good for 416 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque, and the AMG 63 spins out 577 hp and 627 lb-ft.

While the exhaust tips are mounted aft of the B-pillar on both sides of the G-Class, only the G63 gets visible exhaust tips. Side pipes. The reason? Ground clearance. On the G550 the exhaust tips are mounted up high out of harm's way.

The AMG G63’s 0-60-mph dash happens in 4.5 seconds. It’s the definition of a flying brick.

2019 Mercedes-AMG G63

Capability costs
There’s no easy way to put this: The G-Class isn’t cheap.
The 2019 G550 starts from $125,495 while the AMG G63 will start from $148,495 when it goes on sale in the U.S. early in 2019.

Add a few options to the G550 and one might as well buy the G63, which, one should anyways because it drives worlds better and does things it shouldn't be able to do.

Jaguar - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - 2020 Jaguar F-Type Checkered Flag Limited Edition Races into Model Lineup - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

2020 Jaguar F-Type Checkered Flag Edition

Jaguar will honor the brand's racing heritage with a new special-edition F-Type for the 2020 model year, the company announced Wednesday. The F-Type Checkered Flag Limited Edition will race into dealerships equipped with numerous special touches.
Based on the R Dynamic model and available in both coupe and convertible body styles, the Checkered Flag Limited Edition is available exclusively in Caldera Red, Fuji White, or Carpathian Gray. All coupes receive a black-contrast roof paired with one of the three color options, while both coupes and convertibles gain the Exterior Black Design Pack as standard, which features extended side sills in, you guessed, black. Also standard are 20-inch black wheels with a unique design, special badging, and red brake calipers.

The interior receives Ebony Windsor Leather and standard performance seats. The standard delta aluminum center console trim is also swapped for a dark brushed aluminum trim to compliment the dark leather. Buyers also get color-contrast stitching in either red or cirrus. Checkered flag branding is debossed into the headrests, and a checkered flag logo is present on the steering wheel at the 12 o'clock position, finished in a red leather band.

2020 Jaguar F-Type Checkered Flag Edition

All Checkered Flag Limited Editions come with an infotainment system that includes a standard 10-inch infotainment screen and premium Meridian audio. As for options, buyers can select heated and cooled performance seats.
Jaguar will offer the Checkered Flag Limited Edition on both the rear-wheel-drive F-Type with the 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 engine and the all-wheel-drive model powered by the 3.0-liter supercharged V-6. The former produces 296 horsepower, and the version with two extra cylinders creates 380 hp.

2020 Jaguar F-Type Checkered Flag Edition

Pricing for the F-Type Checkered Flag Limited Edition starts at $72,925 for a 2.0-liter coupe, and rises to $75,325 for a convertible, including destination. Those who need the extra power (and wonderful soundtrack) from the V-6 will need to pony up $95,525 for a coupe and $97,925 for a convertible.
The prices reflect about a $10,000 increase over the base F-Type coupe for a turbo-4 model, which starts at $62,625, and a $7,000 premium over a similarly equipped F-Type AWD with the supercharged V-6, which costs $88,325.

Porsche - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - 2020 Porsche 911 Carrera S laps 'Ring in 7:25, or 5 s faster than previous generation - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

Porsche has a new 911 on its hands, the 992 generation, and naturally it's faster than the model it replaces. However, we've just learned that the performance gap isn't a small one, at least when it comes to the Carrera S variant.

Speaking on Thursday during a drive event for the redesigned 2020 Porsche 911 Carrera S, a Porsche spokesman revealed the car will lap the Nürburgring in a time of 7:25, which makes it a full 5.0 seconds faster than the previous-generation Carrera S.

The time, achieved with all of the car's available performance options, is seriously quick as it's also close to what the 997 generation's GT2 RS was achieving.

The new Carrera S made its debut last November at the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show, and Porsche has since revealed the convertible version.

The 992 generation represents a substantial update of the previous 991, with the structure made stiffer and infused with more aluminum. The footprint has also been made wider for rear-wheel-drive Carrera S models.
For the Carrera S, the engine is the same across both generations, in this case a 3.0-liter turbocharged flat-6 that makes 443 horsepower in the new model, up 23 hp from before. The new car also benefits from an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission versus the previous 7-speed. The result is a car that will sprint to 60 mph in just 3.3 seconds with the available Sport Chrono package (otherwise 3.5 seconds) and top out at 191 mph. Those 0-60 times are 0.4 seconds faster than the previous model in each case.

An all-wheel-drive Carrera 4S is available, but buyers looking to tick the manual option will have to wait a little while longer.

If you're interested, the 2020 Porsche 911 Carrera S is priced at $114,250, including destination. Deliveries are expected to commence in the summer.
