Jaguar - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - Jaguar’s all-electric SUV due in 2018 - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000
Jaguar has delayed the arrival of its electric SUV until
2018 but we could still see it before the end of this year.
Jaguar's radical
all-electric SUV
has been put on ice, perhaps until 2018, after the
firm shelved plans to give the car a public debut at this autumn's Paris Motor Show.
The much-rumoured Tesla
Model X fighter was intended to sit above the Jaguar F-Pace in the
line-up, carrying a price tag of around £70,000 and offering more dramatic
styling than many mainstream rivals, such as Audi's forthcoming Q6
e-tron.
The car is still expected to make production - most likely
at Magna Steyr's facility in Graz, Austria - but Auto Express understands that
a proposed reveal at this autumn's Paris Motor Show has been knocked back.
Jaguar Land Rover is gearing up to launch the next
generation of the Discovery at the event, and is said to have decided
to postpone the all-electric Jaguar SUV's reveal to allow the big Land Rover a clearer
run of publicity.
The decision does not automatically mean that the Jaguar
won't make production in 2017 - the car could conceivably appear at this year's
Los Angeles Motor Show in late autumn - but if a public debut slips much beyond
that slot, it's likely to bring the Jaguar's on-sale date more closely into
line with the Audi's. Both of these cars will therefore be well behind Tesla's
Model X; early customers have already taken delivery of their examples of the
gullwing-doored SUV, and full production ramp-up is expected over the next 12
months.
Jaguar recently registered the I-Pace and I-Type names,
prompting speculation that these could be linked to the all-electric SUV. Auto
Express believes that the registration is purely a case of Jaguar 'fencing off'
the names for future use - although there's an outside chance that one of them
could feature as part of the firm's Formula E race programme, which starts in
September this year.

BMW - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - BMW gets nostalgic with its 2002 Hommage concept - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000
Most concept cars look forward,
predicting new designs and technology. But BMW is in the habit of building
concepts that look back, channeling nostalgia for its classics. That tradition
continues at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, with the unveiling of the
BMW 2002 Hommage concept.
The 2002 Hommage is the latest in a series
of concepts based on classic BMW models. In this case, homage is paid
to the 2002, the boxy sedan that helped cement BMW’s reputation as a maker of
sporty but practical cars. The 2002 was also one of the first production cars
to be offered with a turbocharged engine, something you’ll find on nearly every
BMW today.
The original 2002 was defined by its compact proportions,
upright greenhouse, and forward-tilted “sharknose” front fascia. All of those
elements are present in modernized form on the 2002 Hommage concept, making for
a design that looks like a cross between the original 2002 and a modern
2 Series. Designers tried to soften up the boxiness, and added flared
fenders and front and rear spoilers that recall the 2002 Turbo performance
model.
Designers also paid attention to the details. A horizontal strip of carbon fiber separates the upper and lower halves of the body, in reference to the original 2002’s chrome trim. The Space Race Metal paint is gloss on most of the body, but matte on the hood, trunk lid, and roof to cut glare. The headlights have gold reflectors, since the Hommage was created to celebrate the 2002’s 50th anniversary.
The Hommage certainly looks good, but is it more than just a
pretty face? BMW would not discuss the powertrain, but it doesn’t take too much
imagination to picture something turbocharged under the hood. There also aren’t
any details on the interior, either. Those are some crucial omissions, but then
again the 2002 Hommage is just a styling exercise, not a preview of a future
production model.
A reborn 2002 would be pretty neat, but BMW already cast the
2 Series in that role. Like the previous Hommage concepts, the 2002 Hommage
recalls a legendary model and lets BMW designers cut loose, but that’s the
extent of its mission.

Range Rover - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - 2017 Land Rover Range Rover spy shots - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000
For years, Land Rover’s Range Rover was unparalleled in the
luxury SUV segment. But with demand for SUVs soaring over the past decade it
was only a matter of time until rivals started to challenge it. The current Range Rover is
still hard to beat when it comes to an SUV that offers sublime luxury and
serious off-roading potential but Land Rover isn’t resting on its laurels.
The Range Rover and its Range Rover Sport cousin are
approaching the midway point in their respective life cycles and to keep them
fresh Land Rover will introduce some subtle updates. We’ve already spied a
prototype for the updated version of the
Range Rover Sport and today it’s the Range Rover which is the focus of
our spy shots.
The prototype is sporting a new grille and a new bumper at
the front. The design of the intakes on this front bumper is the only
significant change. The wheel pattern is also one we haven’t seen on the Range
Rover before.
It’s not clear what mechanical updates are planned though we
could finally see a gasoline-electric hybrid version on offer here in the
United States. A diesel-electric hybrid version is
offered overseas. Note, a pure diesel option was introduced
here for the 2016 model year.
The current Range Rover was introduced as a 2013 model. That
means we should see this update introduced for the 2017 model year although it
could be delayed until 2018 to coincide with the update for the Range Rover
Sport. Look for a debut to take place late this year or early next.

Audi - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - Lap Daytona in the 2017 Audi R8 V10 Plus with 360-degree view - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000
In its annual general meeting held today in Ingolstadt,
Germany, Audi outlined two key areas of focus for the future: electrification
and digitization.
No doubt spurred on by the emissions cheating scandal Audi
is embroiled in together with its Volkswagen Group parent
, the automaker is accelerating the electrification of its
fleet.
Instead of the piecemeal efforts we’ve seen so far—currently
there’s only an A3-based plug-in hybrid
on sale here—Audi will launch an electric
SUV in 2018 and launch at least one electrified car per year in
subsequent years.
“Starting in 2018, we will launch another electrified car
each year,” CEO Rupert Stadler said at the general
meeting.
In the area of digitization the scope is much wider.
However, one important area is the integration of the HERE digital map business
Audi acquired last year with fellow German automakers BMW and Mercedes-Benz.
Highly precise maps linked with real‑time data will be the basis for example
for many future digital services, particularly autonomous driving.
According to Stadler, fully autonomous cars will be
available “by 2025.” His comments come just days after Fiat Chrysler
Automobiles [NYSE:FCAU] CEO Sergio Marchionne said he thinks fully autonomous
cars are more likely to be just five years out
and not decades as others have suggested.
Audi is a bit behind automakers like Mercedes, Tesla Motors
[NSDQ:TSLA] and Volvo in the area of autonomous driving. Audi’s first model
with a high level of autonomous capability will be the next-generation A8 arriving next year. It
will be able to drive itself in certain situations at speeds of up to 37 mph.

Mercedes - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - The Mercedes-AMG GT S Is A Triumph Of Speed And Style Over Anything Else - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000
Take one Mercedes twin-turbo V8. Give it a stupid, ungodly
amount of power. Take the noise straight out of a Camaro SS. That’s the Mercedes-AMG
GT S, and I think I’m in love with it.
Yes, I know, you might think it’s easy to fall in love with
a car that costs $154,200. For that price, you damn well better be in love with
it, right?
But that actually couldn’t be further from the truth.
Consider the Always and Eternal Lord Of Our Hearts, the Miata, which at just
under 25 grand isn’t exactly going to set a Miami club-goer’s hair on fire.
The more expensive a car tends to be, the more car companies
seem to focus on making them more more. More power. More electronics. More
bells and whistles. More steering modes. More throttle input selections. More
things removing you from the road. More designers trying to make a car look
appealing to everyone, and taking all the drama out of it.
So how do you make a car this expensive, this wild, this
over-the-top, and still make it absolutely great?
I’m still not sure how Mercedes did it, but the Mercedes-AMG
GT S, incredibly dumb name and all, is great.
Greatness, of course, has to be contextualized. The AMG GT,
of course, has got some context, too. Within Mercedes itself, the company’s
made a slew of ridiculous two-seater velocity demons over the past decade or
so, beyond even the normal pinnacle that makes up the AMG nameplate. There was
the SLR, made in conjunction with McLaren, and the SLS, made in conjunction
with itself.
But these were flashy, elongated symbols of success, costing
many hundreds of thousands of dollars and coming complete with absurd,
ridiculous doors that opened up and/or away in various guises. You might buy
one to pair nicely with a Ferrari, but even then, the company never planned to
sell more than a few thousand at most.
Which is fine, for small companies like Ferrari. But
Mercedes is a juggernaut. It can’t just beat Ferrari. It needs to beat Jaguar,
and Porsche, at the coupe-for-around-a-hundred-grand game.
And holy hell, I do think it’s done it.
I didn’t want to like the Mercedes-AMG GT S, for a lot of
reasons. Its name is off-putting, an amalgam of letters that sounds more like a
computer chip serial code than name for a car. I thought it might be an attempt
at a sporty coupe for general-practice doctors from a car company that makes
big and heavy yachts for thoracic surgeons.
With its 503 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque coming
from a turbocharged, 4.0-liter V8 engine, it would surely be simultaneously
overpowered but dull to drive in corners, like a shot of non-alcoholic
Jägermeister.
Its exterior, on first look and to those around you, is
entirely reminiscent of male genitalia in a way that screams that you
have some unresolved adequacy issues. The “long-hood-short-deck” combo is
considered the gold standard of grand touring, and yet here, it’s taken to
extremes, with a proboscis stretched out in front like a piece of Laffy Taffy.
But then you look at it from other angles, and everything
somehow starts looking right. The sides are nicely scooped and swooped. The
occupants sit damn near over the rear wheels. That front end, while fully
festooned with air intakes, isn’t cartoonish.
And I started thinking about how wrong I was. Because unlike
with many cars, merely being in the AMG GT’s presence gives a sense of
occasion.
That ridiculous snout is ridiculous with purpose, as the
whole engine sits behind the front axle. It’s low and wide, which helps with
that whole track thing. And, of course, there’s that noise.
Less primal than the scream of the F-Type’s V8, and much
more of a bellow than anything in a 911, it’s more like carrying around an
old-school American eight-pot around with you wherever you go, except that this
muscle car has a button that actually makes things louder.
Plus that button just looks like a twin-barreled cannon
carried around by a demented robot.
And that’s before you even drive it. Folding yourself in
isn’t exactly easy – again, another reminder that this isn’t just some car.
If you’re over 6'2" or so, you might even have a problem fitting. But if
you put your butt down first, then swivel the legs in, you’ve got it.
Foot on the brake, press the ENGINE START/STOP button, make
sure the loud exhaust is in the “on” position, because the quiet setting is
mostly just for unexpected funerals and pre-getaway crime, and then make sure
the parking brake is off.
And then, well, it’s a bit like driving around an enormous
cat that really doesn’t want to be caught napping. The whole thing feels a bit
like it’s straining at the reins at all times, not because it’s unsettled or
unruly, but because it’s capable of so much more than just tooling around in
traffic.
The machine vibrates with life. That monstrous V8—fitted
with the Dynamic Plus Package, as mine was, with a wider peak power band once
you put it into RACE mode—just begs for you to put it into full song. The
seven-speed dual-clutch gear box shifts faster than lightning, with perfect
blips on the overrun adding to the snorts and chortles from the engine, popping
blissfully along as it goes, and the carbon-ceramic brakes, grabby when cold
and at low-speeds serve as a constant reminder:
C’mon. Faster. Let’s go. Push harder. You can do better.
C’mon. Faster.
The steering wheel chatters at you as you go along, letting
you even read the Bott’s Dots on the road like your only muse is the
protagonist of the Princess and the Pea. It’s direct and communicative, and
even though you sit approximately 900 miles from the tip of the car, you still
know at all times what the front of the car is doing.
Even though most of my time was spent on the highway and
crawling along in Miami traffic, it never, ever got unsorted. Hit an odd bump,
and you still know exactly what’s going on. Nothing fazes it, and nothing fazes
you.
And that’s when you realize, sure, it’s got “GT” in the
name. But between all of that pent-up energy, the suspension that’s on the firm
side even in comfort mode, the center-locking wheels on enormous tires, and the
ridiculous looks, it’s not a grand tourer at all. It’s a racer waiting to be
broken free of the shackles that mere mortals conceive of when they think of
roads.
Yeah, I guess it’s got enough black and red leather in there
to make you think you’re in one of Miami’s more interesting nightclubs. And I
guess that, in true GT form, you would definitely be one of the more
interesting people when you show up at one of those more interesting
nightclubs.
But I don’t care. It’s a car that you not only want to
drive, it wants to be driven right back at you. And there’s nothing I could
possibly want more.

Jaguar - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - Jaguar challenges fans to beat F1 star Romain Grosjean in an XF - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000
Jaguar is about to set off on a global tour to introduce
current and potential customers to its products in over 600 cities, but the
biggest draw for motorsport enthusiasts will be the chance to best Formula One
racing driver Romain Grosjean on an agility course that utilizes innovative
smart cones—behind the wheel of an XF.
Instead of traditional orange cones—the kind revered by
transportation departments and reviled by SCCA racers—the smart cones utilize a wireless
connection
that randomly illuminates pairs of them to change
the course for each driver with little notice.
The course presents a unique kind of challenge that Jaguar
says is more relatable to daily driving.
Here's where Grosjean, who currently drivers for American F1
team Haas, comes in: He was the first to test
the course while driving the same kind of XF that
invitees will be able to pilot. His high score will be made readily available
for attendees to try to to beat.
The campaign, called the Art of Performance tour, kicks off
in Europe with 200 destinations. Jaguar says it will tally 600 stops by the
time it concludes later this year in Australia. The experience will offer
attendees the chance to drive
both the F-Type convertible and coupe, as well as
the XF, XJ, XE and the F-Pace. We're still waiting to learn if there will be
any stops in the United States.

Aston Martin - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - How My Aston Martin V8 Vantage Stacks Up Against A Porsche 911 Turbo - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000
When I first saw the vague sketch Aston Martin released of
its new halo car during today’s partnering announcement with Red Bull F1, I had
to stare at it for about ten minutes before I figured out which direction it
was pointed. Then it was clear: we (may) have seen this before!
Back in August 2014, Aston Martin debuted the DP-100,
pictured above, which was a one-off design study concept for the Gran Turismo
game. Or was it?
With today’s announcement that Aston Martin will stick its
name on Infiniti’s old Red Bull racing team in F1, they also revealed that the
second century of the British luxury brand will foster a range-topping halo car
aimed at being the fastest road car money can buy, tentatively called the AM-RB
100.
That is, in short, absolutely fan-fucking-tastic. They also
teased what it would look like with a little green sketch of five lines that
look nothing like any current or past Aston Martin production design. So
obscure, in fact, I had to study it for a good ten minutes before I realized it
looks just like a slightly stretched outline of the DP-100 Gran Turismo design
study.
Concept AM-RB 100 sketch released today
Now this is all purely speculation on my part, but after
going through the effort of overlaying the teaser image from today with a
concept sketch of the 2014 DP-100, there are some obvious similarities that
suggest the final AM-RB 001 has a good shot at being close in design to the
video game concept.
Merged 2014 DP-100 design sketch with AM-RB 100 outline
sketch, slightly stretched
The notable similarities are in the near-identical wheel
arches, the curvature of the roof line which disappears behind the rear-wheel
arch, the indention surfacing around the door area on the side of the car, and
the pointy stubbed nose peeking out up front. There’s also an identical body
contour line that runs straight through the side of both the DP-100 render and
the new halo car sketch.
The DP-100 also previewed the open-backed front fender that
vortexes the airflow around the car, as well as the new roof-rail design cue
seen on the DB11 revealed in Geneva earlier this month.
And this all sort of makes sense, as the DP-100 video game
design was an opportunity for Aston’s designers to go all-out without
production limitations on something that would essentially be a virtual halo
car. It looks like whatever production halo car Aston is working on will be
extremely close to what we got on our Playstations back in 2014.
DP-100 Gran Turismo render
You can also head over to Autocar to see a much, much better render of what I’m
getting at. I thought I was the first to spot it, but it looks like they
managed to follow the same trail.
Autocar also got a chance to speak to Aston Martin CEO Andy Palmer about the
upcoming AM-RB 001 halo car. The key statements about the upcoming car are
Aston’s goals. They’re projecting the hypercar will be faster around
Silverstone than an F1 car, also claiming it will be the fastest production
road car for sale when it debuts later this decade.
Palmer also mentioned that it could steal an
energy-regeneration system from the new Red Bull F1 partnership, but likely
wont go full-hybrid. It will also feature a bespoke engine developed by Aston
in a two-seater, mid-engine layout with “ some baggage space, but you might not
get the golf clubs in there.”
The only design issue I had with the 2014 DP-100 concept was
the small little slits for headlights, so hopefully they find a resolution with
the upcoming AM-RB 001. Beyond that I’m extremely excited to see the final
product, even if we seem to have gotten an early whiff already.

Range Rover - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - 2018 Land Rover Range Rover Sport SVR spy shots - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000
Land Rover is working on a mid-cycle update for its Range
Rover Sport, and naturally the updates will filter across to the high-performance SVR variant.
We have new spy shots of a prototype for the updated Range
Rover Sport SVR, a vehicle we expect to be launched alongside the updated version of the
regular Range Rover Sport sometime next year. They should arrive as
2018 models.
Looking at the photos, we can see that the basic design will
remain unchanged. However, there appears to be a new design for the intakes in
the front bumper
. This might suggest the vehicle is getting the
575-horsepower version of Jaguar Land Rover’s supercharged 5.0-liter V-8 found
in the 2017
Jaguar F-Type SVR. The current Range Rover Sport SVR has the same engine
but with a 550-hp rating.
Beyond any mechanical updates, look for tweaks to be made
inside the cabin. We could also see some additional tech features such as more
advanced electronic driver aids.
The current Range Rover Sport SVR is already a brilliant vehicle,
so any refinements being made are simply icing on the cake. Despite its size
and ability to go off-road, the Range Rover Sport SVR comes close to matching
the performance of some dedicated sports cars on the track, including Jaguar
Land Rover’s own F-Type. It really is that good.
Note, the Range Rover SUV is also coming in for an update,
as evidenced by a prototype spotted earlier.

BMW - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - 2019 BMW X3 M spy shots - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000
Feast your eyes on the first spy shots of BMW’s upcoming X3
M.
The high-performance crossover SUV will be based on the next generation of the X3due out
next year, and when it arrives will do battle with the Porsche Macan Turbo as
well as a new GLC63 from Mercedes-AMG. We've
also heard Audi Sport is preparing an RS Q5 and Jaguar Land Rover SVO an F-Pace
SVR.
The X3 M will trail the arrival of the next X3; we presently
expect it on the market sometime in 2018 as a 2019 model.
2019 BMW X3 M spy shots - Image via S. Bladauf/SB-Medien
Compared to prototypes for the next X3, this tester is
wider, lower and fitted with larger wheels, tires and brakes. According to our
photographer, the wheels measure 20 inches across and are fitted with
265/40-size Pirelli P Zero tires at the rear.
The tester also features the large intakes and hexagonal
mesh pattern seen on the M2. Finally, BMW M’s
signature quad-exhaust tips are fitted at the rear, though the engineers have
attempted to disguise these as tamer dual tips.
Under the hood should be a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-6,
either borrowed from the M2 or the M3/M4. The latter is more
likely meaning output in this X3 M should hover around 425 horsepower and 406
pound-feet of torque. The standard transmission should be a 7-speed dual-clutch
and drive should be to all four wheel via a rear-biased all-wheel-drive system.
Note, BMW is also expected to launch an X3 M40i to slot in
between the range-topping version of the regular X3 and this X3 M. This model
should match the 355 hp and 343 lb-ft of the current X4 M40i.

Audi - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - Lap Daytona in the 2017 Audi R8 V10 Plus with 360-degree view - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000
Audi has come a long way since the days of the original
Quattro. That all-wheel-drive original changed minds about which wheels should
drive a performance car.
But the Quattro wasn't quite a sports car, and it would take
Audi another two decades before it would field an actual rival for cars like
the Porsche 911 and the Chevy Corvette.
That car arrived in 2008 in the form of the Audi R8. After a
fantastic first generation, the R8 is new again this year. Faster and even more
sure-footed, it’s set to hammer away at those challengers and new ones, such as
the Mercedes-AMG GT, and the revived Acura NSX.
It looks great on paper, with V-10 power to go with its
luxury trim and its tech-rich cockpit. But there’s a better way to prove how
good the R8 is at balancing performance and luxury.
That way, is a trip to the most hallowed ground in NASCAR,
by way of some of the best backroads in America.
Just as spring broke across Appalachia this year, I had the
good luck to climb on a high-speed gravy train, to slide down the geological
spine of the Eastern Seaboard in that car.
Over the course of three days, our speeding skunkworks
drilled through rural North Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia, then did a
hop-skip-jump to Florida's Daytona speedway, for a very special drive of the
2017 Audi R8.
Audis are nothing new in the hipster capital of North
Carolina. Part college retreat, part retirement villa, the mountain haven is a
bit of ski-slope Vermont tucked away in the boonies. That's no slur. There's
actually a nearby town called Boone.
Still, Audis stand out. Rotting Subarus bang around here
like they haven't received their death warrants in the mail. There aren't as
many pickup trucks per capita as other places in the Deep Woods Off slice of
the Carolinas, but the balance still tilts toward vehicles that suffer plain
neglect.
There couldn’t be a car less Asheville than the R8—its
hardcore V-10 growl echoes loudly in the heart of this progressive college
town.
Asheville knows what luxury is all about, though. It’s the
home to Biltmore, the largest home in America, built in the 1890s for the
Vanderbilt family.
The Biltmore house is a postcard-perfect picture of old
money. All that limestone makes for a high-contrast backdrop for the R8, with
its crisp, technical lines and bullet-like silhouette.
It’s a stunning shape, with a low-slung stance, two-piece
side blades, and a roofline that pulls the shape taut all the way to the tail.
This new version’s wider and more menacing in its stance than before.
Inside, the R8’s cockpit practically begs for high-speed
driving. Gunmetal trim outlines a spare black dash and big, high-resolution
screens—including the one that sits where the gauges would normally be.
Audi calls this the virtual cockpit. The display can morph
from navigation maps to computer-generated gauges at the touch of a button.
It’s a calling card for a new generation of Audis, and frankly, it’s dazzling.

Jaguar - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - Fast and Furious' Michelle Rodriguez hits 201 mph in Jaguar F-Type SVR: Video - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000
Jaguar said when it unveiled its new F-Type SVR that the coupe could hit 200 mph, but Fast and Furious actress Michelle Rodriguez proved them wrong.
In her hands, the F-Type SVR topped out at 201 mph, which was both the fastest the coupe has driven and the highest top speed she has achieved on her own. Previously, she says in the video, her personal top speed record was about 140 mph.
Rodriguez and a professional driver riding shotgun took the orange coupe up past the magic 200-mph mark on a closed Nevada highway.
While Rodriguez has a lengthy Hollywood resume, she is probably best known to car enthusiasts for her role as Leticia "Letty" Ortiz in the Fast and the Furious franchise, and she'll reprise the role in the Furious 8 installment that's being filmed right now.
Although we don't recommend you try to top Rodriguez's run, you'll soon be able to do so. Jaguar confirmed earlier this week that the F-Type SVR will sticker for $125,950 when it goes on sale in the next few months.
The 575-horsepower sports car will also be available as a convertible for those more inclined to soak up the sun while driving along at triple-digit speeds.
