Mercedes-Benz Classic has partnered with a German leisure
tour operator to offer guests the ability to rent a vintage SL roadster for a
scenic, pre-planned drive through some of the best parts of Europe.
Mercedes says it and Stuttgart-based Nostalgic Tours will
have on offer either W113 (1963-1971) or R107 (1971-1989) SLs for the new
travel programs, which are structured to allow guests to drive various
different cars during their journeys.
Nostalgic itself has been in the classic car tour business
for more than a decade, although this particular program is one of its more
ambitious.
Guests will pay 1,975 euros (or about $2,260) for an
all-inclusive tour of either France or Italy that includes an orientation of
the vehicle, a tour book, a tour guide who speaks English, airport transfers,
and accommodations for two people. The tours are for groups of 18 people,
presumably meaning that nine SLs will go out on each event.
A support crew will also follow the classic cars in case
there are any issues that need to be rectified en route.
The SL is one of the industry's longest-running nameplates,
and the W113 and R107 are generally considered the two most classic roadsters,
if you exclude the W198, aka the 300SL.
