Range Rover - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - Land Rover shows off new Discovery’s off-road skills - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

Get ready to say goodbye to the aging LR4 and hello to the new Discovery.

The handsome SUV makes its world debut this month at the 2016 Paris auto show and will be on sale by mid-2017, arriving as a 2018 model.

Although it’s aimed at soccer moms—it’s Land Rover’s rival to three-row, seven-seat luxury SUVs such as the Audi Q7 and Volvo XC90—it’s still every bit as capable as its predecessor when heading off-road, as you’ll discover in these promotional videos.

In developing the Discovery, Land Rover drove prototypes in more than 20 countries and racked up more than a million miles. Land Rover describes the SUV as “unstoppable” on any surface, including grass, mud, rocks, sand, snow and even the race track.

Of course, they had a good starting point as the Discovery makes use of Land Rover’s aluminum platform found in the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport SUVs. Known as the Premium Lightweight Architecture (PLA), the platform should also bring significant improvements in efficiency and dynamic qualities over the LR4 thanks to reduced weight.

The covers will come off the Discovery on September 28, the eve of the Paris auto show. To learn about some of the other vehicles appearing at the French event, head to our dedicated hub.

Jaguar - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - Jay Leno inspects the 'new' 1957 Jaguar XKSS - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

Jaguar plans to build nine new 1957 XKSS sports cars using the VINs of originals destroyed by a fire at the automaker’s Browns Lane plant before completion.

The new cars, known in the business as continuation models, are considered original, though of course they don’t have the patina or provenance that classic car connoisseurs adore.

Still, Jaguar managed to sell all build slots for the XKSS continuation models, even before any of the cars were completed. The asking price was a cool $1.5 million.

Jaguar on Wednesday unveiled a new XKSS, although it’s a 10th car that Jaguar will keep. Think of it as a rehearsal for the engineers before attempting actual customer cars.

Following its debut, which took place at the Petersen Museum, Jaguar give Jay Leno a chance to check out the fine work. Unfortunately he wasn’t allowed to drive the car since it isn’t street legal. In fact, this example doesn’t even have a VIN.

But don’t feel too bad for Leno. Only two years he got behind the wheel of an original XKSS, the actual example owned by Steve McQueen.

Mercedes - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - Mercedes-Maybach S650 Cabriolet video preview - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

What's the fun in owning an ultra-rare car if the world can't see you driving it? The new Mercedes-Maybach S650 might just be your answer.

The drop top version of Mercedes S-Class trimmed in Maybach opulence just made its debut at the LA auto show.

This kind of luxury also carries prodigious power. With a 621-hp twin-turbo V-12 planted under the hood that makes 738 lb-ft of torque, the S650 has more power on tap than the S600 sedan, but keen watchers will recognize the same numbers from the AMG S65 version.

What the Maybach treatment affords is attention to detail, such as a wood veneer dash, waterfall-like interior layout with diamond quilted upholstery, and a special substrate used underneath the dash that gives the dash a 3-dimensional visual effect. You’ll also find a piano black lid for the central storage compartment, with “1 of 300” highlighting the vehicle’s exclusivity and a certificate signed by Mercedes boss Dieter Zetsche himself.

Other bits and pieces include special interior lighting with the Maybach name projected onto the floors when the door is opened.

Production for the convertible will be limited to a run of 300, only 75 of which will be available in the U.S. Pricing is equally exclusive; the Mercedes-Maybach S650 will start north of $200,000.

Despite its high price, the S650 is only available in three color combinations including this deep red with black hides, a blue exterior with saddle brown leather, or a rich white with blue interiors. Each convertible has a matching soft-top color and a matching luggage set to boot.

Twenty-inch wheels are standard, unless you need bigger wheels to drown out the audible gasps of jealousy.

We don't expect many, if any, of these to be available long when they go on sale soon.

Mercedes - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - More details on Mercedes-AMG's F1-derived hypercar - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

Mercedes-AMG at the 2016 Paris auto show confirmed development of a hypercarpacking the same powertrain as the Mercedes AMG Formula One team’s world championship winners. The car will be revealed in 2017 to celebrate AMG’s 50th anniversary and will start deliveries the following year.
With work on a rival model taking place at Aston Martin and Red Bull Racing design centers, understandably AMG is keeping most of its car's details a secret. However, Autocar has managed to learn a few things from AMG boss Tobias Moers at this week’s 2016 Los Angeles auto show.

He said the car will deliver about 1,000 horsepower, which is roughly what the powertrain in the current F1 cars delivers. He also said that between 200 and 300 examples will be built and that the project was being handled fully in-house. There had been some speculation that Lotus Engineering was helping with the handling, but Moers denied this.

The car is expected to resemble a Le Mans prototype racer for the road. It will be built almost entirely from carbon fiber, with Moers boasting that it will be the most efficient performance car in every respect, i.e. aerodynamics, fuel consumption, weight and power.

The key is the powertrain, which will essentially be the power unit from Mercedes AMG’s 2015 F1 car but modified for road use. Moers has previously stated that surprisingly little modification was required for road use. The F1 car’s power unitconsists of a turbocharged 1.6-liter V-6, two motor-generators and a lithium-ion battery.

One of the motor-generators is connected to the main driveshaft and aids the engine during high loads and can recovery energy under braking. The other motor-generator is integrated with the engine’s turbocharger. It’s used to spool up the turbo to help prevent lag and at other times can recapture energy from the normally wasted exhaust gasses.

This will be one of the rare instances where there is direct, undiluted technology transfer between an F1 car and road car.

But development of AMG’s hypercar is about much more than just bragging rights. It signals the start of the Affalterbach tuner’s pivot towards electrified drivetrains, which will soon feature predominantly among its lineup.

Audi - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - Special edition Audi R8 V10 Plus comes with laser headlights - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

In 2014 we saw Audi introduce the R8 LMX special edition. The car featured laser lights for its high beams but was never offered in the United States.

Audi has now revealed another R8 special edition equipped with laser lights and this one has been developed for our market.

It’s called the R8 V10 Plus Exclusive Edition and can easily be spotted by its Quantum Gray exterior with yellow accents. Just 25 will be built and once again the lasers will only be for the high beams. The low beams and daytime running lights will be LEDs.

Compared to LEDs, laser lights have a greater intensity, lower energy consumption and a more defined light path. They can light up the road as far as 600 meters ahead or about double the range of LEDs. An identifying characteristic is their blue light signature in the headlight housing.

Beyond the laser lights, the R8 V10 Plus Exclusive Edition comes with carbon fiber seats, carbon-ceramic brakes, and carbon fiber aero elements including a fixed rear wing. The wheels are a 20-inch set with an anthracite finish.

The car also benefits from a ton of goodies from the Audi Exclusive personalization department. The list includes leather trim, a quilted Alcantara headliner, door sills with a “one of 25” script, an Alcantara-lined trunk, and an “R8” logo light beam for the doors.

The powertrain is the familiar 5.2-liter V-10 spitting out 610 horsepower and 413 pound-feet of torque. Paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, the engine will see the car sprint to 60 mph in 3.2 seconds and max out at 205 mph.

BMW - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - Ten Reasons the 2017 BMW M3 Is as Good as Ever - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

BMW introduced its legendary M3 in 1986. The $64,000 four-door basically created the then-novel “sport sedan” segment. In the years since, it has maintained its dominance with supreme handling, punch-perfect power, and businesslike good looks—and has rightfully been embraced by wealthy professionals as the best drivers’ sedan you can get for the money.
Last year BMW sold roughly 63,000 “M” vehicles total, a record-setting increase of 40 percent over 2014. The M3/M4 models, which are traditionally counted together, represent the majority of that number, says BMW.

Yet this ubiquity has a downside: It’s so good, it’s almost boring. It's the modern Rolex of cars, if you will. Those looking for something distinctive may pass it up. That'd be a mistake.
Here's why 31 years after its debut, the 2017 M3 sport sedan is still as relevant as ever—and easily made your own.
1. Manual (Still) Comes Standard. Thank you, BMW, for remaining one of the few manufacturers that (1) make any sort of manual transmission at all and (2) offer it as standard. The 2017 M3 comes with a six-speed manual as standard or a (faster) optional seven-speed dual-clutch. Take your pick, as long as you choose the manual. Anything less is sacrilege.

2. New Color Ways. Attainable only on new models with special badging, unique paint jobs are one the easiest ways to separate your own 2017 M3 from the myriad others running down the road. The one I drove came coated in a $700 “Austin Yellow” paint job that BMW employees repeatedly corrected me on when I called it green. I didn’t particularly like it, but it worked like a charm to get people’s attention. (Choose the $700Marina Blue or, better yet, the $1,950 Tanzanite Blue Metallic if you want something a little less outré.)

3. Sports-Car Blood in a Sedan—With an Upgrade. If you buy the 2017 BMW M3, you must choose the $4,750 Competition Package as part of the purchase. The car just isn’t the same without it—and with it, everything you want to do on the track on the weekends becomes a reality. The M3 Competition Package on the car I drove included 444 horsepower (up from the 425hp that comes in the standard model), adaptive M-tuned suspension, and special shadow trim with 20-inch forged wheels on the exterior that set it off as markedly distinct from other, lesser M3s. The contact it has with the road feels like what you expect from a coupe, not a four-door, 3,600-pound sedan. What’s more, the Competition-spec seats are firm and ergonomic like the inside of a supremely comfortable jet; they contribute none of that stress in the shoulders and hips that poorly designed seats often do.

4. Hate to See It Leave, but Love to Watch It Go. Not to be crass, but the rear of this car is hot. It always has been. Credit its standard quad tail pipes and chrome sport exhaust nestled under the perfectly arched rear lip on the trunk like some dang David. Pair those chrome sport tips with a darker exterior color (blue or slate, see above) for maximum effect. It’ll be anything but ubiquitous.

5. Lag-less Turbo. Plenty of resentment among track buffs still exists toward turbo-charging technology. They decry turbo-lag and the sort of gutless acceleration that emasculates men and dilutes what were once perfect driving cars. Some even go so far as to say that BMW’s M3 coupe, which had a naturally aspirated engine and two additional cylinders on its V8 engine, was among the last great production cars in the world. But the modern 3-liter twin turbo inline-6 engine here has more power and better efficiency (17 city mpg/24 highway mpg) than previous models, with no lag

6. Luxury-Level Options. Often race-car makers put all their thought and resources into making the machine as light (and therefore as fast and nimble) as possible, sacrificing other things in the process—the quality of stitching, the elegance of the materials, the subtlety of seat design. With the M3, these luxury-level details are not mutually exclusive to dominating performance. The 2017 M3 has optional carbon fiber mirror caps ($1,040), special blacked-out kidney grills ($430), M-spec Carbon Ceramic brakes ($8,150), and butter-soft merino leather ($3,600), among other subtleties.

7. Only the Essential Tech. Consider this car the Goldilocks of sport sedans. BMW’s excellent iDrive system (controling audio, climate, Bluetooth, and other wireless functions) comes standard and sits on a blessedly minimal dashboard. Beyond that, a $3,900 Executive Package nails the sweet spot of tech-enhanced creature comforts—Park Distance Control, Rear View Cameras, Heads-Up display, retractable headlight washers, Wi-Fi and wireless charging for mobile devices—that are immediately practical and quickly indispensable without distracting from the task at hand, which is ...

8. Aggressive, Exhilarating Driving. Driving the M3 Competition is to experience the sublime joy of physics—how space and time affect matter (the M3). This superior, variable driving experience comes from BMW’s adaptive M suspension and myriad steering, damping, stability, throttle, and transmission-calibration settings. Again, splurge on all the extras you can afford here. BMW doesn’t offer these things frivolously; they greatly enhance the experience.

9. Pure Speed. With a zero-to-60mph sprint time of 3.8 seconds and a top speed of 155mph, the 2017 M3 is eons faster than the smaller, lighter 911 Carrera (4.4 seconds) and, more closely, faster than a Porsche Panamera (4 seconds), which is considerably more expensive. It is also lighter and faster than the M5 sedan while retaining virtually all the practicality of its bigger sibling. In the Competition Package you’ll have no trouble dropping pretty much everything else you see on the average highway road; the unfortunate downside to that is you may also need to set aside a speeding ticket fund—this kind of fun gets expensive.

10. Winning Value. The MSRP on the new 2017 M3 sedan is $64,000 (plus destination and handling fees). With the tech, comfort, and performance options on the car I drove, the total price hit just over $88,000. This is considerably less than the $146,900 Porsche Panamera Turbo and the $144,700 Mercedes-Benz AMG S63 sedan, two options near the M3 in performance and luxury. Cadillac’s CTS-V comes closer to the pricing of the M3 but can’t quite match the handling or interior quality; Audi’s S6 approximates the pricing, too, but can’t match the speed.
Still unconvinced? Drive it for yourself and see why it has won legions of fans. No harm in experimenting. Just stay away from that neon green—uh, Austin yellow—paint job. Some things are best left untried.

Range Rover - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - Watch former 'Stig' Ben Collins take a Range Rover Sport down a ski slope - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

Land Rover’s Range Rover Sport has conquered one of the world’s most extreme ski runs with a former ‘Stig’ at the wheel.

The Swiss run is called the Inferno Mürren and stunt driver and former BBC Top Gear Sti g Ben Collins was in the driver’s seat of a Range Rover Sport to take on something more conventionally done by people on two skis rather than four wheels.

The ski course is used in one of the world’s most challenging downhill races and despite gradients of up to 75 per cent, the Range Rover completed the 14.9km course in just 21 minutes and 36 seconds, reaching speeds of up to 96mph.

Coventry car maker Land Rover added only a roll cage, a harness, and reinforced tires to what was otherwise a production Range Rover Sport.

The extreme downhill descent saw Ben traverse ice, loose rocks, mud, and grass.
Speaking after completing the daredevil feat he said: “This was genuinely one of the hardest tests I’ve faced in my driving career.

“The route was insane and certainly the toughest course I’ve ever completed.
“It challenged you with every kind of obstacle this side of molten lava and as conditions go, it was about as bad as it gets – torrential weather mixed with cliffs, trees, all kinds of stuff you don’t really want to crash into.
“The key to the run was precision: being able to maintain speed and carry that speed down the hill in the way the skiers can do, carving through the turns.”

Jaguar - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - Jaguar Is the Hottest Car Company in America - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

The memo that the U.S. car market is finally slowing down apparently didn’t make it to Coventry, England. From its U.K. headquarters, Tata Motors' Jaguar brand has rocketed to the front of an increasingly listless crowd of vehicles in America.
In the first seven months of this year, Jaguar sales 1 surged 59 percent, handily outpacing every other brand on the road. Volvo was a distant second, with a 29 percent increase in cars sold. Most of Jaguar’s luxury rivals—including Acura, BMW, Cadillac, Lexus, and Mercedes—have reported a dip in sales for the year to date.

"We couldn't be more tickled," said Chris Marchand, executive vice president of operations at Jaguar Land Rover North America. "Foot traffic in dealerships has more than tripled."
Still, the sales surge is a bit deceiving. For one, Jaguar had quite a bit of room for improvement. While the industry boomed in recent years, Jaguar's sales had largely been stagnant for a decade. With fewer than 15,000 cars sold in the U.S. last year, the brand lived almost purely on provenance—its storied history and the occasional Bond film. It takes Ford less than three days to move that much metal.

Jaguar engineers, however, weren't idle. They were busy drastically overhauling the lineup.
Car executives spend a lot of time talking about “product cadence,” the art of pacing precisely when to pull the cover off new models. Typically, they try to spread out big and exciting new looks to smooth demand and design resources. Jaguar did the opposite.
The brand overhauled its entire lineup in less than a year, rolling out a new version of its midrange XF sedan in November, followed a few months later by an updated XJ, its most expensive sedan. In May, U.S. dealers started selling two all-new models, the entry-level XE sedan and the F-Pace, Jaguar's first SUV.
It was a blitz of metal-based marketing that appears to be working handsomely.

“I think from a normal perspective you want to have a more staggered approach,” Joachim Eberhardt, the North America unit's chief executive, told us in September. “But what we're trying to do here is grab the attention of the marketplace."
The F-Pace in particular has been a hit. The midsize SUV has garnered breathlessreviews while parking neatly in the hottest segment of the U.S. market. If fancy, family trucks are wrong, Americans don’t want to be right. The F-Pace rolled into U.S. dealerships in May and immediately became Jaguar’s bestseller. Last month, the little Costco-pod accounted for half of Jaguar transactions.
Demand has also been primed by some price cuts. The XF, Jaguar’s midrange sedan, now starts at $51,900, 9 percent less than it used to. And with a starting price of $34,900, Jaguar's starter XE sedan is cheaper than anything it has hawked in years.

Aston Martin - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - The Physics Behind The Aston Martin AM-RB 001's Track Version Are Downright Insane - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

See that massive, gaping cavity up there? The one in the back of the joint Aston Martin-Red Bull Racing joint venture, the AM-RB 001? The place where it’s missing a whole lot of car? Apparently that will help the track version make a mind-melting 4,000 pounds of downforce. Oh, and four g of lateral acceleration at speed, like a Formula One car.

For comparison, the McLaren P1 GTR generates a “mere” 660 kilograms of downforce, or about 1,455 pounds. For the mathematically challenged, that means the track version of the Aston will generate 2.75 times the downforce of the McLaren.

The downforce number on the Aston is still “unofficial,” whatever that means, but it comes from a piece about the sheer engineering force behind the car with the toaster name in the Wall Street Journal. And all that downforce won’t be used to simply stick it to the ceiling like some sort of weird bug, either. It’ll be used to snap necks everywhere:

According to King, the 25 track-only copies of the car will be able to hold the line while cornering at up to four g of lateral acceleration, at which point the average driver’s helmeted head weighs 100 pounds and wants very much to depart its moorings.

Four G’s worth of turning grip is, frankly, absurd. Ridiculous. Patentlyoffensive. Especially for a track car that’s based on a road-legal machine.

Now think of the average person who has the money to buy an extremely expensive Aston Martin. They will, most likely, be old. They will, most likely, be on the larger side. They will, most likely, have seen all of their muscles wither and atrophy into crumbles of dust, as they have so much money that they paid some poor schmuck to negate the effects of gravity on them for the past 20 years.

They will, most likely, die.

But what a way to go.

Audi - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - Audi electric SUV to be called the 'e-tron' - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

Audi’s electric SUV due in 2018 will simply be known as the “e-tron,” CEO Rupert Stadler has confirmed. His comments signal the end of rumors the vehicle was to feature "Q6" in the name, theorized since it will be an SUV sized between the Q5 and Q7.

The new naming strategy mimics Audi’s introduction of its quattro all-wheel-drive technology with the quattro sports car of 1980. Crucially, it’s in contrast to the strategy of BMW and Mercedes-Benz which have introduced the respective i and EQ sub-brands for their volume electric cars.

“It is comparable to the first Audi quattro, which was known simply as the quattro,” Stadler told Autocar. “In the long term the name e-tron will stand for a pure electricdriveline structure.”

Audi introduced the e-tron name in 2009 with an electric concept based on its R8 supercar. Since then, we’ve seen the name appear on the A3 and Q7 e-tron plug-in hybrids as well as the unsuccessful R8 e-tron, officially Audi’s first electric car, which was canceled just a year after its launch.

The arrival of the e-tron SUV, previewed by 2015’s e-tron quattro concept car, will serve as a kind of reboot for Audi’s electric ambitions, which have intensified in the past year due to the success of Tesla [NSDQ:TSLA], the current regulatory environment in key markets (namely China), and of course the diesel emissions cheating scandal.

The e-tron will be followed by at least two more electric cars by 2020. One will likely be a compact based on the MEB platform Volkswagen will use for its production version of the I.D. concept; it could even be a successor to the A2. The other is expected to be a sedan, most likely based on the next-generation A7. These additional electric cars will follow Audi’s standard naming practice, so an electric A7, for example, would be called an A7 e-tron.

Mercedes - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - This Mercedes-Benz Brabus G63 6x6 could be yours in the U.S. for $1.35M - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

If you want to have the most ridiculous ride in the Starbucks parking lot, or at your local Cars & Coffee, here's your chance. A Mercedes-Benz G63 6x6 is for sale for $1,349,999. What's more, it's in the U.S., which is rare since it wasn't really sold in the U.S. market.

This particular 6x6 has been cranked to 11 by the team at Brabus. Output is increased to 700 horsepower and 708 pound-feet of torque courtesy of two Brabus turbochargers with a higher compression ratio than stock, gold heat reflection for the intake and boost tubes, and a Brabus tune.

It features non-performance enhancing upgrades as well, including a matte carbon hood, electronically extendable running boards with remote control, a unique front fascia with LED daytime running lights, aluminum pedals, and carbon bits such as the mirror caps.

Everything you would expect to find on a non-Brabus G63 6x6 is still here. Among these features are the 18-inch Hutchinson two-piece alloy wheels with bead lock, locking differentials with three transfer cases, and secondary fuel tank.

The mileage on this thing? A mere 3,000 according to the listing on DuPont Registry.
This isn't the first time we've seen a G63 6x6 in the U.S. We saw one roaming the Northeastern United States in early 2014. There was also one for sale in Florida back in early 2015 for just $975,000.
Any opportunity to buy a G63 6x6 shouldn't be taken lightly, as all these beasties were sold out more than a year ago. The only way you're buying one? The open market.

Of course, if you missed out on buying one or simply can't swing $1 million-plus for the six-wheeled destroyer, there are other options, few as they might be. Hennessey will be happy to take your money and sell you a 600-plus-horsepower F-150 Raptor 6x6 for $317,000. That's not exactly chump change, but it's a whole lot cheaper than $1.35 million.

BMW - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - BMW recalls 5 Series, 6 Series, X5, and X6 models for fuel leaks - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

The Basics: BMW is recalling 136,188 vehicles in the United States and another 18,284 in Canada due to improperly crimped wiring for the fuel pump in the gas tank. All the information can be seen here from NHTSA, but here's a breakdown of the affected models:

2007-2011 X5
2008-2011 X6
2010-2011 X6 ACTIVEHYBRID
2010-2011 5-Series Gran Turismo
2011-2012 528I
2011-2012 535I
2011-2012 550I
2012 640I
2012 650I

The Problem: A fuel leak can develop if the insufficiently crimped wires get too hot and melt. Owners may smell gasoline inside the cabin, and will see a check engine light in the dash. Initial reports of the defect came in June of 2011.

Injuries/Deaths: None have been reported.

The Fix: Dealers will replace the fuel pump, a process that will take several hours to complete.

If you own one: Expect a letter in the mail
