Range Rover - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - Range Rover Sport plug-in hybrid spotted for the first time - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

Range Rover Sport spotted testing near Land Rover HQ with plug-in hybrid powertrain

We already know that Jaguar Land Rover is planning a wide-ranging roll-out of plug-in vehicle tech over the coming years, including electrification for the Range Rover line-up, but now we've had our first look at the PHEV model.

Our spy photographers have caught the car testing outside the Gaydon HQ, with the Range Rover Sport model seen testing with a high-voltage sticker in the front and rear windows. Another snap taken during testing in the US shows the charging port, which is located under the badge on the grille.

It's possible that the new electric architecture being developed for the Jaguar I-Pace will be incorporated into this new Range Rover PHEV, although it does appear to be undergoing testing as a current-generation Range Rover Sport.

Speaking to Auto Express in 2016, JLR’s CEO Dr Ralf Speth said: “Forty to fifty per cent of our range will be electrified by 2020.”

While the Jaguar I-Pace is a fully-electric car, we expect this Range Rover Sport PHEV to use a petrol engine and a smaller electric motor, with a short all-electric range that's supplemented by the normal engine. Expect low CO2 figures to appeal to company car buyers, similar to the Volvo XC90 T8 Twin Engine.

BMW - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - BMW 2002 restomod stops by Jay Leno's Garage - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

BMW’s new plug-in hybrid 5-Series, the 530e iPerformance, will eventually get wireless charging capability.
It will mean no longer have to bother with plugging the car in for charging. Instead, you simply position the car over a inductive charging plate plugged into a wall outlet. BMW says the charging plate is safe to use outdoors.

Integrated into the base of the plate is a primary coil. A secondary coil is located underneath the nose of the car. An alternating magnetic field is generated between the two coils, through which electricity is transmitted without cables or contacts at a charge rate of up to 3.2 kilowatts, or enough to charge the battery in under 4.0 hours. Of course, conventional charging can also be used.

The car’s battery is a lithium-ion unit with a 9.2-kilowatt-hour capacity. BMW quotes a 28-mile electric range for the European cycle. An EPA-rated figure is yet to be announced though should come in lower due to the harsher cycle used.

2018 BMW 530e iPerformance

The 530e iPerformance features a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 paired in parallel with a single electric motor. The electric motor is integrated with the transmission, in this case an 8-speed automatic, and drive is to the rear wheels only. Peak output of the system is 248 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque which BMW says enough to hustle the 530e iPerformance from 0-62 mph in 6.2 seconds.

BMW says the wireless charging plate will be made available from 2018. By then, Mercedes-Benz will also be offering a wireless charging plate for the plug-in hybrid version of the S-Class.

Aston Martin - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - Watch Aston Martin test the Vanquish Zagato at the 'Ring - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

Aston Martin has been busy testing the Vanquish Zagato at the Nürburgring. This short clip shows the carbon-fiber bodied Grand Tourer turning laps at the limit, its 6.0-liter V-12 barking at the trees lining Germany's most infamous track.

The video from YouTuber Automotive Mike only shows a couple of corners, but it's enough to get a feel for the car's capabilities. With 592 horsepower pushing through an 8-speed automatic gearbox, Aston Martin says the Vanquish Zagato is capable of acing the 0-60 mph sprint in 3.5 seconds. It's clear the car's working to put all that power to the ground, as we can hear the tires fighting for grip out of each corner.

Keep in mind, this isn't an all-out track brawler, and engineers tuned the machine's suspension specifically for road-going comfort. Still, it doesn't look out of place among the 'Ring's curbs and Armcos.

Built as the latest in a long partnership between Aston Martin and design house Zagato, the coupe shows a number of unique design elements, from the double-bubble roof to round taillight reflectors. The car is set to go on sale this year, and this testing session would indicate it is close to ready for production.

Aston Martin will build just 99 examples of the Vanquish Zagato coupe, though another 99 convertibles will follow.

Mercedes - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City- Are you ready to pay $300,000 for a Mercedes-AMG G-Class? - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

2018 Mercedes-Benz S-Class

The 2018 Mercedes-Benz S-Class ushers in refreshed looks, new powertrains, and a repackaged interior, but the changes go further than skin deep. Specifically, Mercedes is ratcheting up the active safety features with the S-Class' mid-cycle refresh.

The nervous system of the entire driver assistance system is Mercedes-Benz "Intelligent Drive," which gets better cameras and radar units that see farther down the road this time around. It notably adds Active Distance Assist Distronic. Distronic is the name for the brand's adaptive cruise control, and this version now uses more map and navigation data to help control inputs for the driver, which allows the system to adjust vehicle speed on a route-specific basis.

Better yet, it can slow the S-Class appropriately for bends, junctions, roundabouts, and even toll booths. Active Distance Assist Distronic will also decelerate the S-Class when approaching the route's desired exit as long as the car is in the furthest right lane. Neato. The system has been calibrated to play with the transmission's various driving modes as well: Eco, Comfort,

2018 Mercedes-Benz S-Class

Sport, and Individual. Cornering speeds and following distances are adjusted accordingly, too, with even greater speed ranges than the previous S-Class.

Active Lane Change Assist checks the desired lane to make sure it is clear of obstructions in front of, behind, and alongside the S-Class. The driver simply nudges the turn signal stalk and the system will give the driver the OK on the instrument cluster and head-up display within seconds, then initiate the lane change.
Would you expect it to stop there for one of the most luxurious sedans on the planet? Of course you wouldn't.

Active Speed Limit Assist recognizes local speeds in conjunction with the navigation system and by reading traffic signs, and can adjust speeds accordingly.

Mercedes says Active Steering Assist, which autonomously steers the car to keep it in its lane, has been improved to keep a safe distance and make the steering safer.

Active Emergency Stop Assist intervenes if the system detects the driver has not been operating the car. Active braking will stop the car in its lane, put on the hazard lights, and unlock the doors (possibly to allow emergency responders to render aid), should it detect the driver is no longer actively driving the car with Active Steering Assist engaged.

Active Brake Assist with Cross-Traffic Function is a typical forward emergency braking system that also detects crossing traffic and pedestrians, warns the driver audibly and with lights, and applies the brakes to avoid or mitigate the severity of a crash.

If that's not enough Evasive Steering Assist can help. This system won't activate on its own, but it will apply additional steering torque should the driver try to avoid hitting a detected pedestrian.

Finally, Car-to-X communications can warn the driver of what's ahead through Live Traffic and the COMAND system. Other cars with Car-to-X capability report this information and share it with others with the same capability.

Each one of these systems is a small piece to the final puzzle: autonomous vehicles. Mercedes-Benz continues to seek out and develop technologies to ultimately create its goal of accident-free driving. In the meantime, the 2018 S-Class will serve as a lovely personal assistant.

Audi - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - 2018 Audi S8 spy shots and video - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

Audi is working on a new generation of its A8 and you can bet there will be a sporty S8 variant among the redesigned lineup.

Prototypes for what’s likely to be the new S8 have just been spotted. The four individual exhaust tips at the rear is a clear giveaway that this isn't a standard model.
There isn’t much else to differentiate the S8 prototypes from previous testers for the standard A8 but we should see a few new details as development progresses. These will likely include new bumpers and beefier brakes.

The formula for the new S8 will stay pretty much the same as the current model, with a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 mounted up front and driving all four wheels. Output should come close to or match the 605 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque with overboost (516 lb-ft normally) of the current S8 Plus. An 8-speed automatic should also remain standard. As we hear in the spy video above it sounds proper with a throaty V-8 note despite being turbocharged.

The redesigned A8 lineup, the fourth generation of the Audi flagship sedan, is being designed around the Volkswagen Group’s latest’s MLB platform. The new platform will bring weight savings plus next-generation electronic driving aids.

The standard A8 bows later this year, as a 2018 model. It’s possible the S8’s launch will be delayed until the following year.

Jaguar - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - The 2018 Jaguar F-Type's new 4-banger doesn't sound half bad - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

2018 Jaguar F-Type equipped with turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-4

Sticking a 4-cylinder engine under the sleek hood of the Jaguar F-Type has not only made the British marque's sports car more affordable, it retains a decent snarl, too.

Jaguar revealed the 2018 F-Type would be offered with its Ingenium turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine at the 2017 New York auto show. Not only that, but as mentioned, entry-level pricing drops to $60,895 by opting for the 4-cylinder engine. Thanks to a new video straight from Jaguar, we now know how the sports car will sound with turbocharged 4-banger power as well.

2018 Jaguar F-Type equipped with turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-4

In the accompanying video, Ian Hoban, F-Type vehicle line director, walks us through what to expect from the latest addition to the F-Type family. Thankfully, the sleek cat hasn't been declawed too much. Paired exclusively to an 8-speed automatic, the 2.0-liter turbo engine produces 296 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. With the 4-cylinder, the F-Type manages the same 5.4-second 0-60 mph acceleration time as it gets with the supercharged 3.0-liter V-6, though the top speed is down by 7 mph. That's despite being down 44 ponies.

2018 Jaguar F-Type equipped with turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-4

The quick 0-60 mph sprint is due in part to a 115-pound weight reduction over the V-6 engine and the fact the 2.0-liter 4-cylinder makes peak torque at 1,500 rpm. One other small benefit of the 4-banger? It's 16 percent more fuel efficient, according to Jaguar.

Why does the four save so much weight? Because Jaguar's V-6 is actually a V-8 that simply doesn't use two cylinders.

As you hear in the video, the engine sounds pretty strong when the throttle is blipped. It has a deep, snarly growl, though, there's no denying that the amazing sounds made by the available V-6 and V-8 engines have spoiled us for what an F-Type ought to sound like, especially in SVR guise. And yet, we aren't disappointed by the tones of the 4-banger. Have a listen for yourself.

Land Rover - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City -All-new 2018 Land Rover Defender: everything we know so far - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

Land Rover Defender LWB front

Though the Land Rover Defender went out of production last year, the iconic off-roader isn’t quite dead yet – Land Rover is planning an all-new version of its iconic, boxy 4x4, which will continue to use the legendary Defender name and we could see it for the first time at some point in 2018.

The new Defender project has been discussed openly by Land Rover bosses, but confirmation aside, the company is still fairly coy regarding its upcoming off-roader. Our most recent update came in September last year, when Jaguar Land Rover chief execituve Dr Ralf Speth told us that early development mules have already been driven by company bosses. The JLR boss promises that the new car will be “even more capable” than the old Defender when the going gets tough.

New versions of cult classic cars are never easy – Land Rover has to built a new 4x4 with off-road capability and versatility on par with the brand’s DNA, while ensuring it can still make money on a car likely to sell in small numbers.

Jaguar Land Rover boss Dr Ralf Speth has admitted that the basic design and engineering work is now settled enough for him to have tried the new Defender. “I have driven test mules already,” he told us last year, “and also tried the car against competitors, in on- and off-road environments. It’s sensational.”
Speth declined to put a timeframe on the Defender’s debut - it’s widely tipped to be 2018 at the earliest - but he said, “It is coming. We are working an authentic successor of the predecessor. I have to say it was one of my saddest moments in my career at Jaguar Land Rover, when we stopped the production line of this vehicle, because I just love it. But we will make a successor to this vehicle and you can be sure it will be even more capable. Nevertheless it will have the DNA of the current car.”

Land Rover Defender 3-door

When asked if the Defender could be genuinely profitable - or if Land Rover is considering building it at a slight loss to ‘legitimise’ the brand values that sell thousands of Range Rovers, Evoques and Discovery Sports, Speth said, “The new vehicle, as with all our vehicles, has to make money. It will be a sensational vehicle and I think there will be a lot of demand for it.”

Speth indicated that the Defender will share components with other Land Rovers in a bid to cut costs - and that this will extend to being built alongside other cars. “We’re already doing this now,” he said. “We used the modular architecture and elements of our chassis for weight reduction to make the new Discovery a better-handling car. We will do so also in the future because we always learn.” When asked if the Defender would go down the production line with other models, he replied, “Yes, you can assume that.”
Large Land Rover Defender family planned

Beyond the launch of the basic model, Land Rover is planning to introduce an entire new family of Defenders, and design boss Gerry McGovern has hinted that a performance SVR version of the forthcoming 4x4 could also be on the cards.

Such a car would be developed by Jaguar Land Rover’s newly formed Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) division, and would allow the brand to tap into demand in Russia and China for powerful and luxurious rugged off-roaders, currently dominated by the Mercedes G 63 AMG

It's also likely that a hardcore off-road Defender SVX will join the range at some stage and we could even see a luxurious SVA version in line with the Range Rover SVAutobiography

“The beauty of SVO is that it allows you to play. It lets you take vehicles and heighten their essence,” McGovern told Auto Express last year. “We can do that with all of them, whether it’s a Range Rover, Discovery or a Defender.”

The first new Defender isn’t expected to arrive until 2018, and it will spawn a family of at least three individual models. McGovern said: “The Defender is all about durability – that indestructible, durable vehicle which is what a family of Defenders would be.”

Whatever happens, the new Defender will continue Land Rover’s recent move upmarket. “In its core form it can be something that can be quite elemental up to something incredibly luxurious,” said McGovern.

Yet the car will remain a true off-roader. While exact details are still secret, the new Defender is likely to have an aluminium body built on an aluminium chassis. This would give go-anywhere strength with less weight than from a traditional 4x4 steel chassis.

“When you see the new Defender, people will know it’s worthy of carrying the badge,” explained McGovern. “It will be able to do everything it says on the tin.”

BMW - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - BMW 2002 restomod stops by Jay Leno's Garage - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

The BMW New Class of automobiles are a group of wonderful boxy beauties. This is the generation of car built between 1962 and 1977 that's given us the BMW 2002, which remains a cherished part of any BMW fan's dream car garage. The New Class cars included the 1500, 1800, 1600, and the 2000 models, the last of which spawned the 2002. All of these cars are getting harder to find for sale in good shape, because the good ones are getting snatched up and poor examples will require a fair amount of cash to set them right. This 1976 2002 is an excellent example, and it's been modified in a tasteful manner.

Built by the Bavarian Workshop, the car was created for a customer who wanted to see their father's car restored. This 2002 sat for many years, but it was in good shape, so it proved to be a great platform for improvement. Marc Norris, the builder, doubled the horsepower you'd see from the engine when it left the factory by installing a more modern 2.3-liter 4-cylinder engine. A 5-speed manual helps the car keep the revs down at highway speeds.

In an effort to turn this car into essentially what BMW might've built if it had created a 2002 M2, Norris and his team made extensive suspension modifications, widened the track, added a strut brace, changed to 5-lug wheels, and installed Wilwood brakes.

Inside, Norris added seats from a newer BMW 320i recovered in nappa leather, finished out the trunk, and laid down Dynamat to quell some of the noise.

As per his usual practice, Jay takes the car for a spin, and has a grand ol' time. With more power to go with the light weight of this classic car, it has to be a fun ride.

The exterior looks perfect and the cabin space is in amazing shape. This is truly a beautiful example of one of BMW's all-time greats.

Aston Martin - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - Aston Martin gathered $83M worth of cars to celebrate new plant - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

A total of 28 Aston Martins from throughout the automaker’s century-plus history recently stormed the hangers of the decommissioned airfield in St Athan, Wales, which is in the process of being converted into a new vehicle plant.

The cars, which have a combined value of approximately $83 million, were there to celebrate the transfer of ownership of the site from the British government to Aston Martin.

The site is where Aston Martin will build its DBX starting in 2019. The SUV will be followed eventually by two Lagonda-branded sedans.

The oldest model in the clip is a 1921 A3 prototype, a car recognized as the third Aston Martin ever built. And among the newer cars are the uber-expensive and uber-rare One-77 and Vulcan. There’s even an example of the unloved Cygnet, essentially a rebadged Scion iQ.

And in case you’re wondering who’s doing all the driving, we can spot World Endurance Championship drivers Darren Turner and Nicki Thiim as well as Aston Martin engineering boss Matt Becker. And towards the end, CEO Andy Palmer makes an appearance in a sweet-looking Vanquish S decked out in blue.

Mercedes - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City- Are you ready to pay $300,000 for a Mercedes-AMG G-Class? - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

Mercedes-AMG is prepping a G-Class for ultra-luxury duty, and this one will pack a styling punch to boot. It will also pack one hell of a punch to your wallet. The new G65 Exclusive Edition will go on sale in Germany wearing a price tag of €287,658.70 (including 19% VAT). That translates to $314,000 here in the States. That's a hefty price tag for a vehicle that you could use to play in the dirt...though you know that no one who buys one would do that.

Well, maybe someone in Dubai will take one to the dunes. And if they do, we applaud them.
The Exclusive Edition G-Class is offered in both the aforementioned G65 version and a "more affordable" G63 variant. That one will run you €163,125.20, which is a little under $180,000. Each example receives special stainless steel underguard parts, AMG sport stripes on the sides, and a rear spare tire cover painted to match the body color.

Mercedes-AMG G-Class Exclusive Edition

Inside, the cabin is outfitted with a two-tone leather-lined dashboard. That dual-shade treatment continues on the doors and the AMG sport seats. For the trim, buyers can choose between piano black or AMG carbon. Leather wraps around the grab handles, and your hands will rest on a two-tone AMG Performance steering wheel, which matches the colors of the seats.

If this seems like a mere styling and materials upgrade, you're pretty spot on. While this price tag may seem insane, it's really the G65's $220,000 starting price here in the U.S. that is outrageous. The VAT is a major culprit in boosting the G65 Exclusive Edition's imaginary price in the U.S. over $300,000; it certainly doesn't have almost $100,000 worth of styling add-ons. And to think, this vehicle started life in the 1970s as an understated military machine.

At this point, Mercedes doesn't plan to bring either of these vehicles to the U.S. As we mentioned, however, you can still top $200K for a G65 if you need to buy a luxury off-roader that you will never take off road.

Audi - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - Audi Sport Quattro S1 E2 replica is a testament to the golden era of rally racing - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

Group B rally racing is often referred to as the golden era of rallying. Established in 1982 by the FIA, the short-lived Group B era birthed some of the most legendary rally racers even to this day. That includes the famed Audi Sport Quattro S1 E2.

The Sport Quattro in the video from Petrolicious isn’t the real thing, but the impeccable replica is probably as close as one can get to it. Volker Gehrt, the owner of the replica, states a toy model his wife purchased for him to keep on his desk was the inspiration to go out and build his own Sport Quattro S1 E2.

After crossing paths with Roland Gumpert, the father of the Quattro as well as a former Audi motorsport boss and founder of the Gumpert supercar brand, both gentlemen thought it would be a fun undertaking to rebuild the car just as it was in the ‘80s. Of course, this kind of undertaking is a lot easier when you have a former Audi motorsport boss on board, who was able to source the obscure and rare parts for the project.
The end result is what you see here, identical in every way, shape, and form to the legendary rally racer of yore. The replica even received the blessing of Walter Röhrl, who piloted the original Group B Sport Quattros during the 1980s, including up Pikes Peak. It’s definitely a good sign when someone like Röhrl says, “I feel like I’m having déjà vu.”

It’s a truly magnificent undertaking by Gehrt and Gumpert and looks right at home on the rural roads outside of Thuringia, Germany. Now, if Audi could reverse its decision to pass on building a modern Sport Quattro, we’d really be a happy bunch.

Jaguar - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - Jaguar to offer 10 ‘reborn’ E-Types - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

Following the success of its continuation program for the Lightweight E-Type, Jaguar has decided to offer a handful of what it’s calling “reborn” E-Types.

Jaguar’s classic car department plans to scour the classifieds for 10 original E-Types and then comprehensively restore them to pristine, factory-original condition. (Jaguar says it has all the build records and original drawings on hand.)

Classic cars are all the rage right now and automakers are looking to cash in. Sister company Land Rover ran a similar restoration program for 25 original Land Rovers in 2016 and then a second program for 10 first-generation Range Rovers in 2017.

In this initial program for the E-Type—you can bet there’ll be more—Jaguar is only dealing with “Series 1” E-Types, i.e. those built between 1961 and ’68. The cars feature inline-6 engines displacing either 3.8 or 4.2 liters and 4-speed manual transmissions. This combination is good for 0-60 mph acceleration in 7.0 seconds and a top speed of 150 mph.

Jaguar will show the first of the 10 restored E-Types at the 2017 Techno-Classica Essen classic car show running in Germany from April 5-9. It's a matching-numbers 1965 coupe with the 4.2-liter mill and was original sold in California. It racked up 78,000 miles before its owner, in 1983, decided to store it away.
As many of the original parts are retained during the restoration, though safety-critical parts get replaced with new items. Jaguar’s meticulous attention to detail even extends to recreating the correct type of spot-welding when refitting parts. Everything is customizable, though, so more modern upgrades can fitted, should the customer desire. An improved cooling system or an all-synchromesh transmission can be installed, for example.

The price for one of the 10 cars will start at £285,000 (approximately $355,000). If that’s a bit too steep for your budget, Jaguar is also offering E-Type hoods to hang on a wall as art. Solid colors, racing roundels, racing stripes and one-off designs may all be commissioned, with prices for these starting at £8,000 ($10,000).

Range Rover - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - LAND ROVER REVEAL THE RANGE ROVER SENTINEL - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

The new Range Rover Sentinel

Land Rover’s Special Vehicle Operations Division have created the Range Rover Sentinel, a luxury armoured vehicle.

Hand built at Land Rover’s Oxford Road facility in the UK, the vehicle is the based on the standard wheelbase Range Rover Autobiography and provides the highest levels of protection an SUV can offer.
Designed to withstand the most damaging and targeted threats the vehicle is verified to VR8 standard against ballistic threats, meaning it can withstand armour piercing incendiary bullets and the blast from DM51 grenade explosions.

In addition to this level of security the Range Rover Sentinel retains Land Rover’s huge breadth of capability and uncompromised levels of luxury and refinement. The vehicle has no differences on the exterior to the standard Range Rover Autobiography, despite its level of protection.

John Edwards, managing director of Jaguar Land Rover Special Operations said, “The new Range Rover Sentinel is one of the most extraordinary Range Rovers ever produced. It has been expertly engineered by Special Vehicle Operations to provide class leading levels of protection to occupants against extreme attack, whilst retaining the Range Rover’s luxury and refinement with off road capability.”

The Sentinel will make its global debut at the Defence and Security Equipment International Exhibition at London’s Excel arena between the 15th and 18th September.

Visitors will be able to see the vehicle up close and learn about the six–piece armoured passenger cell, made of super-high-strength steel and the multi-laminated armoured privacy glass, which provides bullet protection. Other features include an anti-tamper exhaust, a self-sealing fuel tank, an auxiliary back up battery and run flat inserts on the tyres, which allow the vehicle to be driven on even if the tyres are deflated.

The Range Rover Sentinel is the first luxury armored vehicle to be fully engineered by Land Rover’s Special Vehicle Operations Division.
