Auto Belt and Hose Replacement Redwood City - Bosch European Redwood City

BELTS AND HOSES

What is it?
You car’s belts and hoses are essential to the cooling, air conditioning and charging systems, and the engine. Don’t take these routine replacement intervals for granted because they can break down and leave you stranded.
What does it do?
The timing belt keeps the crankshaft and camshaft mechanically synchronized to maintain engine timing. Whether serpentine, V-belt or fan belt (the belts on the outside of the engine), they all transmit power from the front of the engine to accessories that need to be driven, such as the air conditioning, the charging system and fans. Radiator and heat hoses carry coolant to and from the engine, radiator and heater core.
Typical Wear and Tear
Key items that affect the replacement interval for belts and hoses:
  • Vehicle age
  • Electrolytic corrosion
  • Mileage
  • Oil contamination
  • Belt tension
  • Failed hose clamps
Symptoms
  • Squeaking noise from under the hood during start-up or operation
  • Coolant leaks
  • Dashboard light will illuminate
Come into Bosch European in Redwood City for all your hose and belt service

BMW Service Redwood City - Tuned BMW E30 vs Ferrari 458 - Bosch European Redwood City

The Ferrari 458 is a magnificent achievement. A stellar example of art, design and engineering working in perfect harmony. And with a glee-inducing 0-60 time, hovering precariously near the precipice of three seconds, it would seem a bit futile for someone to challenge such a car to a race in their seemingly benign E30 BMW. And even after the aforementioned 458 dusted a Speedart BTR 600 Porsche 911 Turbo 9997 and a stock Nissan GT-R. Neither of which are slouches, in any sense of the word.
Confidence in abundance for the Ferrari drive, it seems. An easy defeat ready to be handed to any who challenge. Only one problem – this isn’t just your stock E30. No. Try a heinously turbocharged engine. And a roll-cage. And E85 ethanol fuel. Oh, and suitably gold wheels, which almost certainly clinched that extra five horsepower gain any self-respecting drag racer needs. In all seriousness, the video below is quite the sight to see.

Mercedes Service Redwood City - Mercedes recalling 2013 SL-Class over air conditioning issue - Bosch European Redwood City

Last week, Daimler announced that it would be sticking with R-134a refrigerant in its cars due to some tests it conducted that showed the newer, more environmentally friendly R-1234yf ignited in certain crash tests. Apparently, this R-134a replacement had already been installed in the 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class, so the automaker is electing to issue a recall for a small number of SLs to replace the refrigerant. While theNational Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced the recall, this worst-case scenario crash was only verified by Daimler, and the refrigerant recall is not yet affecting any other automakers.

Since the two refrigerants are interchangeable, all Mercedes-Benz dealerships will have to do is replace theR-1234yf with R-134a and swap out the A/C lines. Mercedes-Benz will be notifying owners this month whose cars were built between December 19, 2011 and May 31, 2012; NHTSA states that only 432 cars will be affected.

Currently, General Motors is the only other automaker in the U.S. using the R-1234yf (in the 2013 Cadillac XTS and 2013 Cadillac ATS in addition to the European-spec Chevrolet Malibu), and it has responded with a statement of its own regarding this matter:
"The safety of our vehicles and our customers is GM's highest priority. The new vehicle refrigerant, called R-1234yf, was evaluated and tested over many years through industry-wide cooperative research programs with organizations such as SAE and other independent engineering organizations and involved 10 major global automobile manufacturers including GM. We believe these tests demonstrate that R-1234yf is a safe, effective and environmentally beneficial motor vehicle air conditioner refrigerant for our future vehicles. However, we are trying to learn more about the Daimler test experience and will, of course, make any decisions and take any actions with our customers' safety in mind."

Range Rover Service Redwood City - Land Rover Defender will return to US in Next Generation - Bosch European Redwood City

Land Rover DC100 'Defender' concept on the road

Good news, Defender fans: Word has it Land Rover will bring the rugged SUV to the U.S. market once the next-generation bows. According to TheCarConnection.com, Jaguar Land Rover North America CEO Andy Goss confirmed the next Defender will be a global product, and that it will be specifically engineered to meet U.S. crash safety and emissions standards. The news came during the 2012 Paris Motor Show, where JLR officials also made it clear the brand intends to bolster its Land Rover offerings in the North American market. As of right now, the vast majority of Land Rover Sales in the States can be attributed to the high-end Range Rover line.

That mix may change somewhat as Land Rover refreshes some models and replaces others. Expect to see both the LR4 and the Defender receive serious overhauls in the near future.

Even so, it will be some time before he next-generation Defender bows, and whether or not it looks anything like the DC100 concept above remains to be seen. From what we've heard, the new bruiser won't bow until 2017 at the earliest. In the interim, U.S. buyers will just have to continue to look wistfully across the pond.

Jaguar Service and Repair Redwood City - Build Your Own F-Type! Jaguar’s Configurator Is Live - Bosch European Redwood City

Jaguar F-Type Configurator Interior
Are you already dreaming about ordering a Jaguar F-Type? If so, you’re in luck: Jaguar unveiled a new online configurator that’ll allow you to nip and tuck the hot new convertible in dozens of ways.
While the Jaguar site doesn’t make the configuration process as intricate as, say, Porsche’s sites, there’s a fair amount of customization to be had. Design aficionados can change the exterior metal and folding softtop colors, as well as the wheel design (in 19″ or 20″). On the inside, Jag offers optional sport seats with contrast stitching (choose red and it’ll match the optional red seatbelts), and one of two high-powered Meridian sound systems for maximum aural enjoyment. Granted, the F-Type V8 S’ 5.0-liter supercharged V-8 engine (which makes 490 hp) should be an audible form of entertainment as well.
The best part about this whole process (of configuring) is that you’ll never have to look at a price in the configurator if you don’t want to, as it should be in dreams. If you are curious, however, Jaguar says its 340-hp F-Type starts at $69,000, the 380-hp F-Type S starts at $81,000, and the 495-hp F-Type V8 S starts at a stout $92,000. With a few choice options, the F-Type will easily crest $100,000.
What would your dream F-Type look like? Take a look around Jaguar’s configurator here and let us know what you put on your convertible.

Audi Service and Repair Redwood City - New Mysterious Audi R8 Test Mule at the Nurburgring - Bosch European Redwood City

Spyshots New Mysterious Audi R8 Test Mule at the Nurburgring
What are we looking at? It is clearly an Audi R8 facelift test mule featuring a big wing at the back, special side wings at the front, a newly-shapped hood, enlarged side intakes and a more aggressive splitter up front. The test car was spotted at the Nurburgring Nordschleife last week.
Nothing is confirmed at this stage, but we could be looking at the last hurrah of the current Audi R8 series to be introduced in 2014. Looking at the German sports car we suggest an ultimate lightweight track-biased Audi R8 using LMS-sourced materials and parts, but that is just guessing.

For the time being the most powerful and fastest model in the R8 line up is the limited edition Audi R8 GT. The output of its 5.2 liter V10 engine is 560hp resulting in an acceleration from zero to 100km/h in 3.6 seconds and a top speed of 320km/h.

Lexus Service and Repair Redwood City - Jay Leno drives Lexus LFA Roadster in its motherland - Bosch European Redwood City

Jay Leno driving top-down in Lexus LFA Roadster

There is only one
Jay Leno and there is only one Fuji Speedway. It turns out there is also only one Lexus LFA Roadster. Put them together and you have the latest episode of Jay Leno's Garage. Leno, as you may recall, recently did a tour of Japan which previously saw him at Nissan discussing the future of the Z. In this video, the comedian heads to Toyota City to watch the LFA being built and then to Oyama, Japan to drive the aforementioned fresh-air version of the V10 supercar around Fuji.

Jay says this is the only roofless LFA that's going to be built (we're not sure what that says for the maroon model they showed at auto shows in 2008 – perhaps that one wasn't a runner or it's been repainted white). In this case, you can can take the word "roofless" literally – the top isn't stowed somewhere, the LFA Roadster doesn't have one at all. That never seems to curtail the enjoyment, however, with Jay exclaiming "Oh my God!" more than once and declaring of other supercars, "None feel as refined as this."

The LFA Roadster, Jay's Serious Driving Face, glorious V10 revving and a matte black LFA built for a Buddhist monk are all in the video below.

Mercedes Service and Repair Redwood City - Mercedes launches SLS AMG GT3 45th Anniversary racecar - Bosch European Redwood City

Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG 45th Anniversary - front three-quarter view, doors up

Mercedes-Benz has whipped up a special edition of its SLS AMG GT3 customer racecar to mark the 45th anniversary of the very first SL model. The company plans to build no more than five examples, each stitched together by hand in Affalterbach. Each of the bruisers will come with a special magno graphite matte paint slathered over carbon fiber bodywork. The racer wears a composite hood, trunk lid, aero work and doors. Jump inside, and the SLS AMG GT3 45th Anniversary offers a full race cage painted to match the vehicle's exterior as well as carbon-shell seats for both the driver and co-driver.

Meanwhile, each machine will receive an AMG 6.2-liter V8 hand-fitted by Bernd Schneider and an AMG technician. As you may recall, Schneider carried out most of the development testing of the SLS AMG GT3 and has won the DTM championship three times.

Buyers will receive their vehicles at a handover ceremony in Affalterbach, which includes a full factory tour by Schneider himself.

Mercedes Service and Repair Redwood City - Facelifted Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG spied - Bosch European Redwood City

Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG Spy Shots

Spy photographers have sussed up a few images of the next Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG hustling around theNürburgring. Given the strategic cladding stuck to the performance sedan's nose and tail, odds are buyers will see a face lifted version of the mightiest E-Class show up on dealer lots very soon. When it does, the AMG will feature a new fascia, complete with larger, more gaping air inlets to feed the 5.5-liter twin-turbocharged V8 under the hood.

The new E63 will also benefit from the same updates we've seen crop up on the rest of the E-Class family, including single-piece headlights and a more upright, proud grille. Otherwise, changes appear to be slight. The reworked rear valance should allow for new exhaust exits out back, and the aft sheet metal has been smoothed by nixing the old pontoon fenders. We can't wait to see this newest fast Benz without the armor.
