Audi - Repair and Service Redwood City - 2021 Audi A4 and A5 get power boost - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

2021 Audi A4

After receiving comprehensive updates for 2020, Audi's A4 and A5 enter the 2021 model year with only subtle tweaks.

Key among them is a 13-horsepower bump in power for models equipped with a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4, courtesy of a new mild-hybrid system.

In the case of the 2021 A4, it means the base A4 40 now has 201 horsepower and the slightly spiffier A4 45 now has 261 hp. Audi has also made all-wheel drive standard on the A4 40, meaning there is no longer any A4 model with front-wheel drive.

For the 2021 A5, there's a new base A5 40 with 201 hp and AWD. The A5 45, which was previously the base model in the A5 range, now has 261 hp. Audi notes that the new A5 40 model is only available with the A5's Sportback liftback sedan body style.

Audi has also increased the number of standard features on the A4 and A5. These include Apple CarPlay, lane departure warning, and the integrated toll module.

Upgrading to the Premium Plus grade now also includes adaptive cruise control with active lane assist, a surround-view camera, and a hands-on detection system for the steering wheel, while opting for the Prestige grade now also includes heated rear seats.

The Convenience package has been expanded to include a heated steering wheel and park assist with front and rear parking sensors, and on various models there is a new Black Optic package.
The 2021 Audi A4 and A5 are available to order and are priced to start from $40,095 and $42,795, respectively. Both figures include destination.

Land Rover is working on a redesign for its Range Rover and the latest spy shots show a prototype for the long-wheelbase variant.

The prototype can clearly be identified by its stretched wheelbase and rear door. The previous long-wheelbase Range Rover was about eight inches longer than the regular model and the same is probably true for this new generation. It should also be differentiated from the regular model by more luxurious appointments in the cabin.

Both the regular and long-wheelbase versions of the redesigned, fourth-generation Range Rover are expected on sale in late 2021 as 2022 models. A new Range Rover Sport should also be coming, likely one year after the regular Range Rover.

Underpinning the vehicle will be Land Rover's new MLA (Modular Longitudinal Architecture) platform that debuts this year in a redesigned Jaguar XJ. It was previously thought the platform would debut in the redesigned Defender but Land Rover went with an evolution of the D7 platform instead for the off-roader. The D7 platform underpins the outgoing Range Rover and Range Rover Sport, as well as the Discovery.

The MLA platform has been designed to fit battery-electric powertrains and will eventually underpin most models from the Jaguar and Land Rover brands. The platform will also be lighter than the aluminum-intensive D7 platform.

As for powertrains, expect the redesigned Range Rover to feature the inline-6 engine and mild-hybrid system that was just introduced in to the current Range Rover for 2020. The setup is good for 355 horsepower and 365 pound-feet of torque in base P360 guise and 395 hp and 406 lb-ft in sportier P400 guise.

Above this should be a new plug-in hybrid setup featuring the inline-6 engine mated to an electric motor at the front axle and a second electric motor powering the rear axle. The current Range Rover plug-in hybrid only has a single-electric motor setup. A battery-electric powertrain will also be offered in the new Range Rover at some point.

It isn't clear if a V-8 will be offered with the redesigned Range Rover, though a deal with BMW Group could potentially make it happen. Jaguar Land Rover and BMW Group are already poised to share some engines and electric powertrains, and hopefully a V-8 is on the cards.
Production will be handled at Land Rover's plant in Solihull, United Kingdom, where the current generation is built.

Mercedes - Repair and Service Redwood City- 2021 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Guard spy shots - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

Mercedes-Benz is close to finishing up development of its redesigned S-Class, and the latest prototype to be spotted is for an armored version to sit in the automaker's Guard portfolio.
We know the prototype is for the armored S-Class Guard because of its heavy-duty wheel and tire combo, and underbody protection. According to our photographer, the glass on this prototype is also much thicker than on earlier testers. That makes sense since it's designed to stop an attack from an assault rifle.

Like the outgoing S-Class Guard, this new one's safety should be rated at VR10—the highest level of ballistic protection for civilian vehicles. That means it will be able to sustain fire from machine guns and assault rifles, as well as blasts from bombs and other explosive devices.

The interior should be as plush as in any other S-Class variant, though here too there should be additional protective elements. This might include an onboard air system to protect against a gas or fire attack.

Mercedes' Guard models tend to feature the biggest powertrains available due to the extra heft of all the armor protection. In the new S-Class, that should be a 6.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-12. The same engine delivers 523 horsepower in the outgoing S-Class but could be tuned to deliver slightly more in the new generation.

The new S-Class is expected to debut later this year as a 2021 model. In addition to the standard S-Class and this armored version, there will also be a stretched Maybach version. A high-performance option from AMG should also be in the pipeline, along with an extra-long Pullman option from Maybach.
