Porsche - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - 2020 Porsche Cayenne Coupe: Jumping on the fastback SUV bandwagon - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

2020 Porsche Cayenne Coupe

Porsche's Cayenne can soon be ordered in a sleeker, sportier shape thanks to the arrival of the 2020 Cayenne Coupe, which the German performance marque unveiled Thursday.

Like other players in the segment, such as the BMW X6 and Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe, the Cayenne Coupe sacrifices space in pursuit of a more dynamic design.

Virtually everything from the A-pillars back is new, as the roof has been dropped 0.78 inches and flows toward a new tail fitted with an adaptive rear spoiler that works in conjunction with a roof-mounted spoiler. New rear doors and rear fenders also give the vehicle a wider, more muscular stance.

Despite the roof being lower, we're told head room at the rear isn't an issue as the seats have also been lowered by 1.18 inches compared to the regular Cayenne. Only two adults will fit in the rear, unlike the Cayenne, which can fit three across in the rear seats. The Cayenne Coupe's cargo volume is about 22 cubic feet, which increases to 54 cubic feet when the rear seats are folded.

The Cayenne Coupe's roof is a panoramic glass unit as standard but can be swapped out for a lighter carbon fiber replacement that helps to lower the vehicle's center of gravity. The carbon roof is offered in one of three lightweight sports packages, which also include lightweight 22-inch alloys and carbon fiber and Alcantara interior trim.

A Sport Chrono Package and Porsche Active Suspension Management adaptive dampers are included as standard across the range.

2020 Porsche Cayenne Coupe

The Cayenne Coupe arrives in showrooms in the fall as a 2020 model. Just two models have been announced, a base Cayenne Coupe that starts $76,550 and a high-performance Cayenne Turbo Coupe that costs $131,350 before options. Both prices include destination.

The Cayenne Coupe is fitted with a 3.0-liter turbocharged V-6 that delivers 335 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque, which is enough for 0-60 mph acceleration in a brisk 5.7 seconds (5.6 seconds with lightweight packages) and a top speed of 151 mph. The Cayenne Turbo Coupe drops in a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 that delivers 541 hp and 567 lb-ft and will sprint to 60 in 3.7 seconds and top out at 178 mph.

In Turbo guise, the Cayenne Coupe is one of the fastest SUVs on the planet, so it seems Porsche has ensured the vehicle has the performance to match its looks.

Audi - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - Audi TT and R8 futures uncertain, electrification needed - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

2019 Audi R8

The fight for the Audi TT and R8's survival is on within the halls of the German brand. According to the brand's CEO Bram Schot, both cars have an uncertain future as it takes a hard look at profitability.

Schot declared Audi will always have "icon cars," but gave caution to the future of the TT and R8, in a report by the British website Auto Express from the brand's annual General Meeting this week. Volumes and profitability are of concern at Audi and neither sports car may cut it in the future.
Another executive looked at the sports cars with greener pastures ahead.

2020 Audi TT RS

Audi board member for technical development, Hans-Joachim Rothenpieler, said it's his mission to convince his colleagues that the TT must go on. If it does, it will have to feature some sort of electrified powertrain, which could mean hybrid, plug-in hybrid, or full battery electric propulsion. The same situation applies to the R8, he added.

In the years to come, discussions will focus on what will still be needed for internal-combustion engines and what models can move to "e-mobility" quickly. Currently, e-mobility includes hybrids and battery electrics, but it could move to only battery-powered vehicles in the future. Neither Schot or Rothenpieler would explicitly say electrification will, in fact, save the TT and R8, but it's the best shot for both models to continue into future generations.

For the R8, that task might be easier. The sports car shares some of the cost burden with the Lamborghini Huracán, and we already know the Italian brand has plans to introduce a successor to the entry-level sports car. The next car will still feature a V-10, but it will be a hybrid. Audi could stuff the electrified powertrain into a new R8 and share the costs with Lamborghini. That could make for a solid business case.

2019 Audi R8

The TT is tougher to visualize in a crystal ball. It could become one of Audi's more emotional cars based on the electric MEB platform and ditch the internal-combustion engine. VW Group has several brands, so a next-generation TT could also share costs with one of them and go with some type of hybrid powertrain. Audi technical chief Ulrich Hackenberg previously said the brand is "happy" with the TT at the moment and also underscored future work on electrified vehicles.

One thing is clear: The e-tron GT will be one of the brand's "icons" to carry its emotional cars into the future.
We won't know the fate of the TT or R8 for years to come, but without electrification, Audi can kiss two of its sports cars goodbye.

BMW - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - BMW X3 xDrive30e plug-in hybrid due in US in 2020 - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

BMW X3 xDrive30e

BMW didn't have much in the way of surprises at this week's 2019 Geneva International Motor Show, but the automaker did roll out a new plug-in hybrid version of the X3.

The vehicle is badged an xDrive30e and packs the same powertrain as the new 330e sedan. A 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 works together with an electric motor integrated with an 8-speed automatic transmission, and drive is to all four wheels.

Peak output is 252 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque, but an XtraBoost feature adds an extra 41 hp when the vehicle is in Sport mode and there's sufficient charge in the onboard 12-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery. BMW quotes a 0-62 mph time of 6.5 seconds and an electric range of 31 miles for the X3 xDrive30e.

2020 BMW 330e

The 12-kwh battery also replaces the 9.2-kwh unit in the plug-in hybrid version of the 5-Series already on sale here, as well as the plug-in hybrid version of the 2-Series Active Tourer on sale overseas.

The X3 xDrive30e is confirmed for sale in the United States in 2020. Production is scheduled to start in December at BMW's plant in Spartanburg, South Carolina, meaning sales should start in the early part of 2020. Also due in 2020 will be an electric version of the popular crossover.

Range Rover - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - This 2018 Land Rover Defender 6x6 can be yours for $350,000 - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

Land Rover Defender-based 6x6 SUV

Maybe a Land Rover Defender 6x6 isn't your first choice for a vehicle, but for those with healthy checking accounts, this would make a fine weekend warrior.

Listed for sale via duPont Registry is this Defender-based 6x6 SUV. It comes from Ontario, Canada-based Urban Warrior, which builds the custom SUVs alongside a few other vehicles. The 6x6 is by far its wildest creation.

Each model comes with the third axle as standard equipment and loads of other off-road upgrades to make the best of the unbeaten path. The SUV, which Urban Warrior calls the "Flying Huntsman," features a heavy-duty transfer case, twin Ford 9-inch differentials, heavy duty axles, and a Detroit TrueTrac gear drive with torque sensing to apply power to the wheels in the most efficient manner for the best traction.

Land Rover Defender-based 6x6 SUV

The extended frame is made from reinforced steel, while Fox shocks handle whatever dips and ditches drivers encounter. An 8,000-pound winch is included should the six-wheel beast somehow get stuck, or, more likely, should the driver want to pull out another stuck vehicle. The exterior also features a custom RDX body kit complete with matte gray paint to finish the rather sinister look. Of course, the mammoth thing sits on all-terrain tires.

Under the hood lurks a supercharged Ford-sourced 5.0-liter V-8 engine. A Ford Racing supercharger kit cranks up the dial to 670 horsepower and should provide more than enough oomph when tackling the trails.

Land Rover Defender-based 6x6 SUV

Inside, it's nothing but luxury. The Land Rover Defender 6x6 is loaded to the gills with features such as a heated windshield, an Alcantara headliner, heated and cooled Recaro bucket seats, and leather upholstery finished in black with red accent stitching.

The seller says the SUV has never been titled and only has 807 miles on the odometer. Bring $350,000 if you think it deserves a spot in the garage.

Mercedes - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City- Mercedes-AMG plans plug-in option for every model - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

Mercedes-AMG GT concept, 2017 Geneva auto show

Every single Mercedes-AMG vehicle will receive a plug-in hybrid version in the near future, marking a major shift in the brand's strategy.

The information was confirmed by Frank Overmeyer, Mercedes’ head of external affairs for emissions, in an interview with Autocar published Thursday. He added that we won't see any mild hybrids from AMG because the emissions savings are too slim, pointing out that plug-in hybrids make more sense for cars and SUVs that focus on big power.

As previously reported, AMG will call its plug-in hybrid technology EQ Power+, which mirrors the branding used on the Mercedes-AMG Formula 1 cars.

Mercedes-AMG GT concept, 2017 Geneva auto show

Don't expect the same electric range as non-AMG plug-in hybrids from Mercedes, though. Overmeyer explained in his interview with Autocar that the electric range in an AMG plug-in hybrid might be 37-43 miles instead of the 62 miles in a Mercedes, due to the emphasis on performance in the former.

Mercedes' newest plug-in hybrid system makes 121 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque on its own. That leaves plenty of extra performance for AMG engineers to tap into when incorporating the system in a powertrain.

We could see some serious performance gains in AMG cars thanks to the inclusion of batteries and electric motors. AMG's GT concept car unveiled in 2017 paired a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 with an electric motor for a combined output of 805 horsepower. Don't be surprised if this particular setup ends up replacing the Afalterbach tuner's departing V-12 engine.

Jaguar - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - Sharper look for 2020 Jaguar XE - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

2020 Jaguar XE

New car shoppers are going wild for crossovers right now and sadly that's left many sedans languishing in showrooms.

Even impressive contenders like the Jaguar XE, which features punchy engines, a low center of gravity, and a lightweight aluminum platform, are failing to excite the market, with Jaguar last year selling only around 5,000 XEs in the United States.

The automaker has now revealed a mid-cycle refresh that hopefully will boost the numbers.
The update sees the face of the XE become a bit more distinctive. The headlights, which are now LEDs as standard, are new and have been made slimmer compared to the previous model. The taillights are also LEDs and include a new graphic.

The interior was also an area of focus, with designers striving to make things feel more premium through the use of standard leather trim and more soft-touch materials. A digital instrument cluster, digital rearview mirror, head-up display, and wireless charging pad are all available, and there's now a proper gearshift lever for the standard 8-speed automatic.

Several electronic driver aids are included, either standard or available. Among these are a driver alertness monitor and a park assist feature with automatic steering. Thankfully, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone intergration are now standard.

2020 Jaguar XE

The outgoing model's diesel and supercharged V-6 are no longer in the lineup. Instead, Jaguar has kept things simple by offering a single gasoline powertrain, in this case a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 with outputs of 247 (P250) and 296 (P300) horsepower. All-wheel drive is available with the 247-hp powertrain and standard with the 296-hp option. The latter combo will see the XE hit 60 mph in 5.4 seconds.
Though it's yet to be confirmed, we could see a 3.0 turbocharged inline-6 made available shortly. The powertrain is already available in the Land Rover Range Rover Sport where it delivers 395 hp.
The 2020 Jaguar XE reaches showrooms in the summer with a base price of $40,895. Rivals include the BMW 3-Series, Lexus IS and Mercedes-Benz C-Class.

Porsche - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - New Ruf GT debuts with 515 horsepower - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

2019 Ruf GT

Germany's Ruf used this week's 2019 Geneva International Motor Show to unveil the latest generation of its GT based on the Porsche 911, specifically the outgoing 991's GTS variant.

The Ruf GT is aimed at 911 enthusiasts seeking additional performance and something a little different to what Porsche sells.

The main upgrade over the donor GTS is a boost in output, with Ruf's version delivering 515 horsepower and 476 pound-feet of torque. That's up on the standard car's 450 hp and 405 lb-ft.
The power comes from a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged flat-6, which is mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission and spins the rear wheels. Ruf quotes a 0-62 mph time of 3.4 seconds and a top speed of 190 mph for its latest GT.

2019 Ruf GT

Ruf's signature ducktail spoiler, inspired by the design used on the 1973 Carrera RS, sits at the rear and together with a new front splitter generates extra downforce said to keep the car stable at its top speed. These are joined by a new carbon fiber diffuser and 20-inch aluminum wheels.

Joining the GT on Ruf's stand at the Geneva auto show is the first production example of the retro-fantastic fourth-generation CTR that we first saw in Geneva two years ago. In production form, the car has been rebranded the CTR Anniversary, which is appropriate given the company's 80th anniversary this year as well as the fact it pays homage to the original CTR “Yellow Bird” unveiled in 1987.

None of the specs have been altered on the road to production, meaning the CTR Anniversary packs a 3.6-liter twin-turbocharged flat-6 with 700 hp and 649 lb-ft on tap. The car also features Ruf's own carbon fiber tub and rear-engine mounting. Performance metrics are said to include a 0-62 mph time of 3.5 seconds and top speed of 223 mph.

Audi - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - Audi R8 Decennium rings in 10 years of the V-10 engine - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

2019 Audi R8 Decennium edition

Ten years ago, Audi graced its halo sports car with a hallmark engine: the 5.2-liter V-10 mill that made 525 horsepower. Today, Audi honors the a decade of the V-10 with a new special edition car: the R8 V10 Decennium.

Recall, the Audi R8 first entered production for the 2006 model year powered exclusively by a 4.2-liter V-8. Three years later, Audi plucked the 5.2-liter V-10 from the Lamborghini Gallardo and stuffed it in the middle of the R8. The V-10 has arguably become the sports car's calling card. Today, it makes 620 hp.

 2019 Audi R8 Decennium edition

"Decennium" means decade in Latin. The 2019 R8 Decennium is offered only as a coupe and features a special Daytona Gray matte exterior color paired with bronze accents. Specifically, the 20-inch wheels and the engine's intake manifold get the bronze look. Elsewhere, gloss black accents provide further contrast from the gray, including on the Audi badges, front spoiler, side sills, and rear diffuser. The side blades and mirror housings, meanwhile, feature a gloss carbon-fiber finish.

Those who aren't thrilled with the exclusive matte gray color can also choose from Suzuka Gray, Floret Silver, Mythos Black, Ascari Blue, and Kemora Gray. The same Daytona Gray color is also offered in a pearl finish.

2019 Audi R8 Decennium edition

The cabin receives a color palette similar to the exterior with black upholstery complemented by black and copper contrast stitching on the seats. The same copper stitching is also found on the Alcantara-trimmed steering wheel (with a black 12 o'clock mark) and gear selector. Carbon fiber makes up the interior's inlays to break up the black hues. Finally, Decennium logos adorn the center console and doors, and the same logo is projected on the ground from the puddle lights when the driver or passenger opens the doors.

Audi will build 222 examples of the R8 Decennium. Audi made no announcement about examples coming to the U.S., but Motor Authority has reached out to Audi to learn how many, if any, will make their way to these shores and how they would be priced. If U.S. prices match European prices, the R8 Decennium would sell for $252,000 here based on current exchange rates. We will update this story when we hear back.

BMW - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - BMW Group and Daimler partner on self-driving cars - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

BMW and Mercedes-Benz self-driving car concepts

BMW Group and Daimler will partner on self-driving cars, the two automakers announced Thursday.
The announcement follows last week's briefing on a 50:50 joint-venture company BMW and Daimler have set up to oversee all of their various mobility services under the one roof.

In the area of self-driving cars, BMW and Daimler aim to develop a scalable platform for the technology. The two are also open to exploring additional partnerships, including with firms outside the automotive sector, to help accelerate development of the platform.

"Instead of individual, stand-alone solutions, we want to develop a reliable overall system that offers noticeable added-value for customers," Daimler R&D chief Ola Källenius said. “Working with the right partners, we want to make significant advances in enhancing the performance of this technology and bring it safely on the road.”

The two will focus initially on developing electronic driver aids, including Level 4 self-driving systems for highway driving and parking. The aim is to have these available by the middle of the next decade. Level 4 means a car can operate without a driver in select conditions and can safely stop should a driver fail to take back control outside of those conditions.

The long-term goal for both automakers is to develop cars that can handle themselves in all conditions expected of a human driver, i.e. a Level 5 self-driving car. BMW and Daimler are still in negotiations in this regard.

Both automakers have worked independently on self-driving technology for years and are expected to start offering the first fully self-driving features to the public as early as 2021, though these will be very limited. Daimler has also committed to launching a fully self-driving service on a trial basis in Silicon Valley later this year.

Range Rover - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - Land Rover Discovery SVX cancelled, SVX name to live on - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

Land Rover's Special Vehicle Operations team has less to do than initially planned. Land Rover scrapped plans for an ultra-opulent Range Rover SV Coupe in late January, and now we learn that the hardcore Discovery SVX off-roader is no longer headed to production.

Autocar reported the model's death on Friday, though Jaguar-Land Rover spokesman Nathan Hoyt told Motor Authority the final decision was made months ago. The brand quietly sent a bulletin to customers who had placed orders for the Discovery SVX to explain the model was no longer planned. Notably, the SUV added JLR's supercharged 5.0-liter V-8 engine to the Discovery lineup.

Land Rover Discovery SVX concept, 2017 Frankfurt auto show

"The decision was made not to offer the V-8 powertrain in the Discovery line," Hoyt told MA, which effectively killed the Discovery SVX's shot at production. He added the SVX badge isn't going away, however. It will live on for other models, perhaps on a rumored Defender SVX.

Land Rover design chief Gerry McGovern said in 2017 that the SVX would "arguably" be right at home on the 2021 Defender. The Discovery SVX was meant to fill the void left by the Defender when it exited production in 2016.

The Discovery SVX first graced the world in concept form at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show. At that time, Land Rover declared a production version would follow in late 2018. That timeframe came and went, and now we know the SUV's final fate.

Land Rover Discovery SVX concept, 2017 Frankfurt auto show

Although the report did not give broader reasons, the Discovery SVX's death could come as the company implements a $3.2 billion cost-cutting plan to boost savings and cash flow through 2020. In January, JLR also announced it would cut 4,500 jobs as part of the cost-cutting measures outlined in the plan. Jaguar Land Rover and other British automakers face an uncertain future in the face of undetermined Brexit plan. A so-called no-deal Brexit, in which no trade deals are negotiated, would prove very costly to British car brands.
It's not all gloom, though. Land Rover this week unveiled its long-rumored turbocharged inline-6 engine, which will debut in the Range Rover Sport HST. The inline-6 joins the Ingenium family of engines and replaces the ancient and inefficient 3.0-liter supercharged V-6.

Mercedes - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City- 2021 Mercedes-Benz S-Class spy shots - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

The current Mercedes-Benz S-Class, the W222, was introduced for 2014 and immediately rocketed to the top of the sales chart. The six-figure sedan racked up more than 100,000 sales in its first year and that was before the arrival of additional body styles such as the two-door cars and extra-long Maybach and Pullman.
It’s clear the new S-Class has some big shoes to fill. Luckily for it, it will adopt a new platform, in this case Mercedes’ MRA design for rear-wheel-drive cars. The current S-Class rides on an updated version of its predecessor’s architecture.

It’s hard to gauge what Mercedes has in store for the new S-Class this early out. The current model just received its mid-cycle update for 2018 so understandably Mercedes is shy to talk about the next one. We already know a few things, however.

Prototypes for Mercedes-Benz’s next-generation S-Class have been spotted again.
The car is expected to debut at the 2019 Frankfurt auto show and should be in showrooms in 2020 as a 2021 model.

From earlier test mules, we know the general size and proportions will match up with the current model but there will be a slightly wider track and it also looks like the hood will be lower and longer. This should give the car an impressive stance.

2021 Mercedes-Benz S-Class spy shots - Image via S. Baldauf/SB-Medien

Every powertrain will be electrified, either with mild-hybrid or plug-in hybrid technology, and most engines will either be a 3.0-liter inline-6 or 4.0-liter V-8. It’s not clear if there will be an electric version as Mercedes is working on a large electric sedan under the EQ sub-brand.

But getting back to the new S-Class, there will also be much more advanced self-driving systems, including perhaps a Level 3 system. This is where the car can handle its own in certain situations, leaving the driver free to do other things. However, the driver will need to be ready to take back control at a moment's notice. Audi has already introduced such a system in its latest A8, though it isn't available in the U.S. due to a lack of regulations.
Inside the dash will still consist of a dual-screen setup, but the secondary screen will increase dramatically in size and be mounted in a portrait orientation. At the bottom of the massive screen sits one row of buttons with the rest of the controls relegated to the touchscreen interface.

2021 Mercedes-Benz S-Class spy shots

We also expect Mercedes to offer the next S-Class in multiple body lengths, from a short wheelbase right up to the extra-long Pullman. However, there’s a good chance the current S-Class Coupe and Cabriolet will be phased out. A roomier next-generation SL-Class with 2+2 seating is expected to fill the void.

Jaguar - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - 2020 Jaguar F-Type Checkered Flag Limited Edition races into model lineup - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

Jaguar will honor the brand's racing heritage with a new special-edition F-Type for the 2020 model year, the company announced Wednesday. The F-Type Checkered Flag Limited Edition will race into dealerships equipped with numerous special touches.

Based on the R Dynamic model and available in both coupe and convertible body styles, the Checkered Flag Limited Edition is available exclusively in Caldera Red, Fuji White, or Carpathian Gray. All coupes receive a black-contrast roof paired with one of the three color options, while both coupes and convertibles gain the Exterior Black Design Pack as standard, which features extended side sills in, you guessed, black. Also standard are 20-inch black wheels with a unique design, special badging, and red brake calipers.

2020 Jaguar F-Type Checkered Flag Edition

The interior receives Ebony Windsor Leather and standard performance seats. The standard delta aluminum center console trim is also swapped for a dark brushed aluminum trim to compliment the dark leather. Buyers also get color-contrast stitching in either red or cirrus. Checkered flag branding is debossed into the headrests, and a checkered flag logo is present on the steering wheel at the 12 o'clock position, finished in a red leather band.

2020 Jaguar F-Type Checkered Flag Edition

All Checkered Flag Limited Editions come with an infotainment system that includes a standard 10-inch infotainment screen and premium Meridian audio. As for options, buyers can select heated and cooled performance seats.

Jaguar will offer the Checkered Flag Limited Edition on both the rear-wheel-drive F-Type with the 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 engine and the all-wheel-drive model powered by the 3.0-liter supercharged V-6. The former produces 296 horsepower, and the version with two extra cylinders creates 380 hp.

2020 Jaguar F-Type Checkered Flag Edition

Pricing for the F-Type Checkered Flag Limited Edition starts at $72,925 for a 2.0-liter coupe, and rises to $75,325 for a convertible, including destination. Those who need the extra power (and wonderful soundtrack) from the V-6 will need to pony up $95,525 for a coupe and $97,925 for a convertible.
The prices reflect about a $10,000 increase over the base F-Type coupe for a turbo-4 model, which starts at $62,625, and a $7,000 premium over a similarly equipped F-Type AWD with the supercharged V-6, which costs $88,325.

Porsche - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - Have a closer look at the Porsche 919 Hybrid Evo - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

orsche's "Top 5" series returns but this time it's all about one car: the 919 Hybrid Evo.

The race car adopted from the Le Mans-winning 919 Hybrid went on a global parade to claim lap records before both cars were escorted to their final homes inside the Porsche Museum in Zuffenhausen, Germany. During its final tour, the 919 Hybrid Evo obliterated the overall lap record on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife with a 5:19 time. The video above digs deeper into the track-splitting machine with five "epic" facts.

We kick things off with the suspension. With increased performance in the 919 Hybrid Evo, engineers added new wishbone suspension to maximize driver safety. The car is also stiffer and boasts an updated version of Porsche's pitch link suspension.

Next is an important part of any car: tires. Porsche developed the 919 Hybrid Evo's tires with Michelin to operate in optimal asphalt conditions on the Nordschleife and they were paramount to the car's success.
No. 3 on the list? Hydraulics. The technical challenge and time spent to sort out the hydraulics system played a huge part in the car's ability to clock record lap times. The drag reduction system is a key element in the rear and front.

A brake-by-wire system at all four wheels also helped create a torque vectoring system the car's drivers took advantage of.

The fourth element on the 919 Hybrid Evo is its aerodynamic prowess. The bodywork is different from the actual LMP1 car that raced at Le Mans and it helped improve aero with a longer overhang, lower skirts, and a higher rear diffuser. Of course, the massive rear wing also helps to create tremendous amounts of downforce.

We couldn't end the video without talking about the powertrain, which is No. 1 on the list. The 4-cylinder engine makes about 720 horsepower on its own and the hybrid powertrain adds 440 hp for a total output of 1,160 hp. Porsche was able to manage the power without FIA restrictions that kept the 919 Hybrid race car at 900 hp.
