Mercedes Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - 2019 Mercedes-AMG C43 spy shots and video - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

Engineers from Mercedes-AMG have been spotted testing a prototype for an updated version of the C43 sport sedan.

The C43 replaced the C450 for the 2017 model year and is priced from just over $50k. It’s one of the tamer "AMG Sport" models offered by the Affalterbach tuner and like others in the “43” series, it comes with a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-6 spitting out 362 horsepower.

For the updated model, likely due in 2018, as a 2019 model, the spy shots suggest tweaks to lights and bumpers at both ends and a completely new grille with a twin-blade design. There may also be new designs for the wheels and exhaust tips.

We can’t see into the cabin but expect a few tweaks here as well. One possibility is that the car will adopt a digital instrument cluster like in the E-Class and above, as well as the soon-to-be-released next-generation compact range.

What also isn’t clear is whether there will be any significant change in the powertrain department. Mercedes has started replacing its current V-6 engines with a new inline-6 design complete with electric compressors, though the new engine may not make it into the C43 until the next-generation model. The first model to receive the new engine is the recently revealed 2019 CLS. We should know more closer to the car’s reveal in 2018.

This update is to freshen things as the current-generation C-Class reaches the midway point in its life cycle. The car was introduced for the 2015 model year, so in Mercedes tradition we should see the updated one introduced for 2019. Prototypes for the updated version of the standard C-Class have also been spotted.

BMW - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - BMW Group delivers over 100,000 electrified cars in 2017 - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

BMW Group celebrates delivery of 100,000 electrified cars in 2017

The BMW Group has reached its goal of delivering more than 100,000 electrified cars in 2017. The total includes hybrids and electric cars sold across the BMW and Mini brands.

The 100,000th car was a BMW i3 finished in blue. It was handed over to its owner at the BMW Group headquarters in Munich, Germany at a special ceremony on Monday.

The BMW Group also marked the milestone by using lighting to transform its headquarters into a battery symbol displaying the prominent declaration, “The future is electric.”

The BMW Group is well aware the milestone represents only the start of a long journey toward zero-emission driving. After all, this year the automaker is on track to deliver over two million cars, so electrified cars are still only a small fraction of the total.

2018 BMW i3

“Selling 100,000 electrified cars in one year is an important milestone, but this is just the beginning for us,” BMW Group Chairman Harald Krüger said in a statement.

The next milestone will take place later this decade when the BMW Group starts selling core models with electric powertrains. The first will be the Mini Hardtop in 2019 followed by the BMW X3 in 2020. The latter will be badged an iX3 in electric guise.

By 2025, the BMW Group will have 25 electrified cars on sale, 12 of which will be electric cars and the rest plug-in hybrids. At this date, the automaker is hoping that between 15 and 25 percent of its sales will be made up by electrified cars.

Other automakers are even more ambitious. Toyota, for example, announced on Monday that every car in its lineup will offer an electrified option by 2025. The Volkswagen Group is committed to launching 30 electric cars by 2025, while General Motors will have 20 of them by 2023.

Audi - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - Audi confirms 2 more electric SUVs - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

Audi e-tron Sportback concept, 2017 Shanghai auto show

Audi on Tuesday confirmed plans for two new electric SUVs. The vehicles will be built at Audi’s main plant in Ingolstadt, Germany from 2021.

Audi made the confirmation during a meeting with employee representatives to discuss job security through 2025. Crucially, it helps to alleviate fears employees may have had about job cuts in an age of ongoing digitalization and electrification.

“We have long been fighting for a job guarantee up until the end of 2025,” Peter Mosch, who represents Audi’s employees, said in a statement. “That is why specifically the decision on the two new all-electric SUVs is another milestone on our road to a secure future.”

Audi’s first volume electric car, the e-tron SUV, bows in 2018, and shortly after its arrival will be a more coupe-like version dubbed the e-tron Sportback. Both of these will be built at a plant in Brussels, Belgium.
But Audi is planning many more electric cars in order to reach a 2025 goal of having one out of every four sales being a zero-emission model. The automaker will introduce a third electric car, likely a city car, by 2020.

Audi didn’t provide any further details on the two SUVs due in 2021. It’s likely they will be smaller than the mid-size e-tron and e-tron Sportback in order to provide Audi with alternatives for the upcoming Mercedes-Benz EQC and Tesla Model Y small SUVs. One will likely be a conventionally shaped SUV and the other a more coupe-like Sportback.

Audi is also working on an electric car for its Audi Sport brand. The performance division’s boss, Stephan Winkelmann, in September said an Audi Sport electric car would hit the market in 2020 or 2021.

Jaguar - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - Jaguar XE SV Project 8 sets record 7:21.23 Nürburgring lap - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

Jaguar said on Tuesday that a specially prepared version of its XE compact luxury sedan—a model that's earmarked for production—lapped Germany's famous Nürburgring Nordschleife in a record-breaking 7:21.23.

That's the fastest time ever posted for a production-intent sedan, the automaker touted at a press event on the sidelines of the Los Angeles auto show. The previous record-holder was the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio, at a still-blistering 7:32 set last year. The fastest four-door to lap the 12.9-mile circuit remains a heavily modified Subaru WRX STI Type RA NBR race car that's not street legal, which did the deed in 6:57.5.

The Jaguar XE SV Project 8 that raced around the 'Ring is certainly a a few seconds faster than the Alfa, but it'll also be a lot more expensive. Jaguar says it plans to build 300 examples of the XE SV for sale globally, including the U.S.

Here, the XE SV will cost a staggering $188,495—but it's not just an XE sedan stuffed with a 592-horsepower supercharged V-8 engine. Jaguar's Special Vehicle Operations division claims that only the roof and front door skins of the Nürburgring car are shared with a standard XE. The 'Ring racer is so unique that its headlights were moved forward and its front end elongated to fit the 5.0-liter engine. Overall, 75 percent of its drivetrain is specific to the Project 8.

For now, Jaguar is gauging interest in the XE SV Project 8 by allowing potential hand-raisers to sign up on its website.

The XE SV Project 8 will be on display at the 2017 Los Angeles auto show starting Wednesday. To learn about some of the other vehicles appearing at the show, head to our dedicated hub.

Range Rover - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - The First Plug-In Hybrid Range Rover Has 400 Horsepower And An Electric Range Of 31 Miles - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

The first plug-in hybrid Range Rover reacted to news that it was good for the planet by attacking the ocean, apparently.

Just a month after announcing that every new car after 2020 will be electrified, Land Rover has announced its first-ever production plug-in hybrid for the U.S. with the new Range Rover Sport.

The 2019 Range Rover Sport will be available with four power options; either a supercharged V6, supercharged V8, turbo V6 diesel and now a plug-in hybrid setup with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder.
The new plug-in makes use of a 296 horsepower 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine coupled with a 85 kW electric motor good for 114 horsepower, totaling just about 400 horsepower altogether and 472 lb-ft of torque. Top speed is 137 mph with a 0-60 time of 6.7 seconds, and the fully electric mode, one of two driving modes, has a claimed range of 31 miles.

Evidently the hybrid Range Rover Sport, which will be badged the P400e based on the company’s new naming structure, will utilize a permanent four-wheel drive system in both normal and electric driving modes.
The P400e goes on sale summer 2018 in the U.S. for the 2019 model year, but the 2018 model year Rangie Sport is also getting updates before they hybrid shows up. This update includes a touched up design, a new dual-10-inch-screen infotainment system, gesture-controlled sun blinds, 14 power points on the interior, and now you can option for Land Rover’s “activity key” that let’s you leave the key fob at home.

Also updated for the 2018 model year is the Range Rover Sport SVR, which gets a power boost up to 575 horsepower and a slight shave off of the 0-60 time, which is now 4.3 seconds.

Pricing for the 2019 hybrid model will start at $78,300, and the combined MPG hasn’t been announced yet.

Bentley - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - Bentley will build 19 Mulsanne-based Grand Convertibles- Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

Bentley Grand Convertible Concept - 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show

Bentley is set to launch an ultra-exclusive run of convertibles based on the (big) bones of the Mulsanne.
The car, referred to as the Bentley Grand Convertible, was first shown as a concept in 2012 during a private event coinciding with the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. It was only revealed to the public at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show.

Fast forward to today and Bentley has finally confirmed a small production run.
A Bentley spokesperson told Motor Authority that 19 examples will be built by the Mulliner personalization department. Each of the 19 cars—the number represents Bentley’s founding in the year 1919—will be tailored to the customer’s specific desires, so no two examples will be the same. For example, customers will choose their own two-tone paint schemes for the exterior.

Put the top down and you'll be able to see the Burr Walnut tonneau. This book matched, mirror-finished, and dark-stained rear deck will be the largest piece of wood veneer ever used in a Bentley. It, like other elements of the cabin, was inspired by luxury power boats. The cabin's leather will be made up of 14 hides in a progressive-diamond quilting pattern that changes shape over the seats and doors. And the same exterior color will be used for contrast stitching, while contrasting Beluga leather will be applied to the tops of the doors.
Bentley Mulsanne Grand Limo, 2016 Geneva Motor Show

The rumored starting price is a cool $3.5 million and getting your hands on one is likely through invitation only. It’s not clear if any will reach the United States because right now the vehicles have only been approved for use in Europe, the Middle East, and Russia.

As mentioned, the basis for the Grand Convertible is the Mulsanne. This means that it's powered by the brand's 530-horsepower 6.75-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 under the hood.

The project represents Bentley’s desire to cater to well-heeled customers seeking extra exclusivity through coachbuilt specials. Such projects can be extremely lucrative for automakers. Ferrari has had great success with its Special Projects division, and this hasn’t gone unnoticed by other luxury brands. Rolls-Royce recently got into the action with a one-off coachbuild estimated to have cost its own an eye-watering $12.8 million.

Another coachbuilt special from Bentley was 2016’s Mulsanne Grand Limousine. The car was three feet longer than a Mulsanne and featured six seats split over three rows.
Note, if it’s a coupe you desire, there’s a company in Germany currently working on a 2-door Mulsanne.

Mercedes Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - Mercedes-Benz A-Class interior photo teasers tip plug-in hybrid model - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

Mercedes-Benz A-Class plug-in hybrid gauge cluster
MBZ A-Class plug-in hybrid gauge cluster

Last week, Mercedes-Benz showed off what to expect from its next-generation compact luxury cars' interiors. Upon closer inspection, the photos also revealed an A-Class plug-in hybrid is forthcoming.
Virtuel Car first noticed the small detail and published the images on Tuesday. Looking closely at the interior teaser image's all-digital gauge cluster reveals a battery icon and a range readout just below it. Comparing it to the E350e plug-in hybrid, the gauge is basically identical. The display reads 36 kilometers (22 miles) of range remaining with about 75 percent of the battery's power remaining. Some quick math pegs a full charge to last 50 kilometers (31 miles).

Interior design of next-generation Mercedes-Benz compact cars

We know the new interior design, which is vastly improved over the current compact cars, will first show up in the next A-Class. Specifically, the A-Class hatchback will receive the luxurious cockpit first, though it won't be sold in the United States. Spy shots already revealed the compact hatchback ahead of its debut in pre-production form. An A-Class sedan, which the brand will sell in the U.S. as a roomier but possibly less sporty alternative to the CLA, will arrive shortly thereafter and boast the markedly improved design. The next-generation CLA and GLA will see the same treatment. The brand promised greater outward visibility in the next A-Class as well thanks to slimmer roof pillars.

Mercedes-Benz has gone all-in on electrification for its future cars. By 2022, the German luxury marque's entire portfolio will feature some sort of electrification. Whether 48-volt mild-hybrid systems or more complex electric powertrains find their way into future Mercedes cars is unknown. We do know the brand's "EQ" nomenclature will denote purely battery-electric cars. The first will be the EQC electric SUV.

BMW - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - BMW plans barrage of M Performance models by 2020 - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

2018 BMW M5, 2017 Los Angeles Auto Show

BMW won't be short on M Performance models in the near future after a new report from Autocar published on Thursday revealed plans for 26 new or refreshed cars by 2020. The long list of new M Performance cars, which will expand outside thoroughbred M vehicles, will help BMW retaliate against a slew of Mercedes-AMG and Audi Sport products.

The report said the next-generation M3 will lead the charge with a 2019 debut, potentially at the Frankfurt motor show. The plan's architect, Frank van Meel, head of BMW’s performance car division, called the M3 a cornerstone for the M division and cast the car as a guiding light forward for M Performance cars.
"(The M3) continues to stand for everything the brand is based upon," he said. BMW poached the executive from Audi in 2014, where he ran Audi Sport, formerly Quattro.

BMW's next M3 will reportedly not go hybrid as previous reports have suggested. Instead, an upgraded version of BMW M’s 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline-6 engine will power the car. Better news: a 6-speed manual is on the table, as is an 8-speed automatic transmission. Power may rise to 472 horsepower with the upgrades, and the M3 will not offer BMW's latest xDrive all-wheel-drive system, per the report's sources.
With the M3 holding down the fort, 15 M Performance cars will continue development, including versions of the X2 and forthcoming X7. Current M Performance models include the M240i, M550i xDrive, M760i, and X4 M40i xDrive. These models aren't as sporting as true M cars, but they do have additional power, sporty suspensions, and upgraded brakes.

These models should not be confused with BMW's M Sport models, which have M design cues but no extra power. For instance, the M Sport components on a 330i include an M sport suspension, unique 18-inch wheels, Shadowline exterior trim, an aero kit, a sunroof, satellite radio, an M steering wheel, keyless access and starting, and lumbar support adjustments. That'll improve performance, but only a bit.

Have no fear, though, because BMW has 11 new true M cars cooking as well. Among them are the X3, X4, Z4, and new 8-Series. That brings our grand total of M cars to the aforementioned total of 26.
While M Performance handles more mid-range cars, M will also take its talents to the top with more track-focused models. It began with the M4 CS, but an M3 CS will soon join the range. Next year, the report's sources added an M2 CS will arrive as well.

Range Rover - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - 2018 Range Rover SVAutobiography dials up the luxury in Land Rover’s flagship SUV - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

2018 Land Rover Range Rover SVAutobiography

Many luxury brands have encroached into territory that was strictly the domain of Land Rover and its Range Rover SUV not that long ago.

But the British brand doesn’t want you to forget that it’s still the original purveyor of luxury SUVs. That’s why it offers a Range Rover that’s even more luxurious than the already plush standard model.

The vehicle is known as the Range Rover SVAutobiography, and the latest version was just unveiled a day out from Wednesday’s world debut at the 2017 Los Angeles Auto Show. It's due on sale early next year, as a 2018 model.

This is the version of the Range Rover hand-finished by the SVO personalization department of Jaguar Land Rover. It delivers a combination of craftsmanship, exclusivity and technology, marking it out as the pinnacle of the Land Rover lineup.

It’s the interior that’s the real star in this vehicle. Much of the driver’s switchgear is machined from solid aluminum with beautiful knurled details. From here, a dramatic fixed center console extends the full length of the cabin and ends with a pair of cossetting seats. With a powered 40-degree recline capability, hot stone massage function, heated calf and foot rests, you’ll never want to leave these seats.

There are some modern touches, too. Rear-seat passengers are now able to close the rear doors using buttons located on the center console. They are also treated to electrically deployable rear tables and integrated 10.0-inch touchscreen displays to take full advantage of the 4G WiFi connectivity. Finally, an exclusive new Zenith clock is also situated at the rear, its design inspired by the Elite 6150 watch. Its knurled bezel matches the pattern on the switchgear found at the front of the cabin.

2018 Land Rover Range Rover SVAutobiography

The Range Rover SVAutobiography is offered exclusively with the Range Rover’s long-wheelbase option. Buyers wanting similar levels of luxury in a smaller size can opt for Land Rover’s new Range Rover SVAutobiography Dynamic.

The powertrain options include the familiar 5.0-liter supercharged V-8 with 550 horsepower on tap, as well as the Range Rover’s new plug-in hybrid option which features a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 and electric motor combo good for 398 hp. Note, the hybrid will only be available for the 2019 model year.
Pricing information will be announced closer to next year’s market launch. As a guide, the current Range Rover SVAutobiography starts at $200k.

Jaguar - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - 2019 Jaguar F-Pace SVR spy shots and video - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

Jaguar is testing prototypes for a high-performance version of its F-Pace SUV.

The prototypes resemble the current F-Pace S, but it’s easy to spot their new, much more aggressive front fascia design.

The stock F-Pace S exhaust tips have also made way for a more aggressive quad-tip arrangement. And there’s no mistaking the burly sound of a V-8 in the latest spy video clip.

Handling the development is Jaguar Land Rover Special Vehicle Operations. The team will no doubt be relying on lessons learned from the Land Rover Range Rover Sport SVR program in tuning this high-performance F-Pace, as well as a high-performance version of the Range Rover Velar.

Under the hood is Jaguar Land Rover’s 5.0-liter supercharged V-8 delivering an output in the vicinity of 550 horsepower. Paired to an 8-speed automatic and standard all-wheel-drive system, the cracker of an engine should see the F-Pace SVR deliver 0-60 mph times in 4.0 seconds or less. Top speed will likely be governed to 155 mph.

The suspension will be tuned for carving up race tracks, and the wheels, tires and brakes should also be upgraded accordingly. The prototypes already look to be sporting some massive brake discs.
Weight reduction will be a major focus. The standard F-Pace already tips the scales at about 4,000 pounds. To address issue, expect weight-saving mods such as light alloy wheels, a titanium exhaust, and possible even some composite materials in the construction.

There is a growing number of options in this space. Buyers looking for a small SUV with plenty of poke can already opt for the Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio, Porsche Macan Turbo and Mercedes-AMG GLC63. And Audi and BMW will soon join the party with respective RS Q5 and X3 M models.

Aston Martin - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - Aston Martin DB4 GT Continuation hits the test track - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

Aston Martin’s redesigned Vantage is set for a reveal on Tuesday, but thanks in part to Red Bull Racing Formula 1 driver Max Verstappen we already have a few of the specs.

Aston Martin is one of Red Bull’s main sponsors, and the two are also linked by way of a technical partnership. For example, Red Bull is helping to develop Aston Martin’s Valkyrie hypercar. It appears the F1 folks are also helping to hone the Vantage.

Verstappen recently took time out from his busy schedule to drive a Vantage prototype in order to provide feedback for the engineers. He tested a second-phase prototype, which comes after the first mule and will be followed by two further-advanced prototypes.

He learns from Aston Martin engineer Matt Becker that the new Vantage has just over 500 horsepower and 505 pound-feet of torque. Its engine is the AMG-sourced 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 already used by Aston Martin in the DB11 V8. In the DB11, the engine is tuned to deliver 503 hp and 513 lb-ft.

The bump in power from the  430 hp in the current Vantage should see the 0-60 mph time drop to around 4.0 seconds from the current 4.8. Top speed should also exceed the current 190 mph mark. Drive will be to the rear wheels only and buyers should be able to choose from either a 6-speed manual or an automated shifter, possibly a dual-clutch unit.

Verstappen also learns that the new Vantage weighs 3,373 pounds dry, so it probably won’t be setting benchmarks for lightness and agility. Nevertheless, Verstappen is impressed with the dynamics, especially the level of control. He’s also impressed with the handling which is helped along by the car having a 100-millimeter shorter wheelbase than its DB11 platform-mate.

Following tomorrow’s reveal, the new Vantage will be presented next week at the 2017 Los Angeles Auto Show. Eventually, we’ll see a convertible join the ranks as well as a V-12-powered variant and endurance racer.

Mercedes Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - Skier Jon Olsson shows off his monstrous 800-hp Mercedes-Benz G500 4×4 - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

Jon Olsson isn't just a professional freeskier and ski racer, he's also a horsepower junkie. Why do we say that? Because he owns multiple wild creations that make in excess of 800 horsepower, including one of the most rambunctious Rolls-Royce Wraiths we've ever seen. Now, there's this: his new 800-hp Mercedes-Benz G500 4x4.

Absolute Motors, a performance shop in The Netherlands, once again helped Olsson bring his latest creation to life, though the SUV will return for official dyno numbers in the near future. The 800 hp figure is only an estimate at this time.

We don't have a full spec sheet, but we do know the G500 boasts a raised ride height, a winch, a Brabus carbon fiber snorkel, LED lighting (including police-like blue lighting in the grille), and a police siren that can make various sounds and pierce eardrums. We don't think Olsson will have to worry about being accused of impersonating a police officer. Nothing is subtle about this rig, everyone will see and hear it coming, and no police department would spend this kind of money.

The G500 also features a custom wrap, similar to the black-and-white camo design found on Olsson's Wraith, but this one is much more subtle with flat black and gray inserts.

The rig is fresh from the shop, but Olsson immediately drives it like it was meant to be driven, wading through deep water, tromping through mud, and really going to town on a pile of leaves. The G500 also has a unique name: "Lord Hans the G," named after Olsson's brother. Check out the automotive lunacy in the video above.

Range Rover - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - New Land Rover Defender won’t have retro design - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

2011 Land Rover DC100 concept

There’s probably no greater challenge for a designer than redesigning an icon.
And they don’t get more iconic than the Land Rover Defender, a vehicle whose design hasn’t changed much in close to seven decades.

Land Rover was forced to end production of the Defender last year, with the most recent model unable to meet crash safety and emissions regulations.

Land Rover design director Gerry McGovern with DC100 Concepts

Mercedes-Benz has a similar problem with its equally iconic G-Class, though the German automaker has taken the easy route by making its redesigned G-Class almost a direct copy of its predecessor.
Land Rover design boss Gerry McGovern will have none of that. Speaking with Automotive News (subscription required), McGovern said the new Defender, expected to debut in late 2018 or early the following year, won’t feature a retro design.

“I am a modernist,” he said. “I'm looking forward, not back.”

McGovern also said that the design of the new Defender had been locked in and that engineers were now working hard to ensure the vehicle is just as capable if not more so than the predecessor.

Last Land Rover Defender is built at famous Solihull plant in the United Kingdom - January 29, 2016

A teaser sketch seen by Automotive News was said to depict a vehicle with a flat roof and squared-off front end, like the original version. Based on McGovern’s comments about retro design, that’s probably all that will be common between the two.

As an indication of how tough the challenge has been, Land Rover in 2011 rolled out the DC100 concept as a potential design for a new Defender. However, the cheap, almost cartoonish look of the vehicle was quickly derided and the design scrapped.

Land Rover has also decided to ditch plans to make the Defender an affordable workhorse along the lines of the Toyota Hilux. Instead, the automaker will adopt the aluminum platform found in the Range Rover, Range Rover Sport and Discovery. Using this platform means Land Rover can build the new Defender on the same production line as its other PLA-based models. The downside is that the vehicle won’t be as affordable as previously thought.

Jaguar - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - Bag a bargain: discounts of up to $30K offered on 2017 Jaguar F-Type - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

2017 Jaguar F-Type SVR Convertible

Jaguar’s F-Type has been updated for 2018. The changes are subtle yet provide the stylish sports car with the latest technology and a more refined look. There’s also a new 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 base option that has brought the price tag down to $60,895.

The problem is that Jaguar dealers still have a lot of 2017 models on their lots. The 2017 model, whose base option is a supercharged V-6, lists from $62,395.

However, Jaguar’s problem is your gain as with a little arm-twisting you can get a great deal on a 2017 F-Type. We’re talking discounts of up to $30,000 in some cases.

Cars Direct has discovered that Jaguar is offering the discounts in the form of dealer cash incentives, meaning it’s up to the dealer to decide whether the full discount is applied.
2017 Jaguar F-Type SVR Convertible

The discounts start at $10,000 for V-6 models, meaning if the full discount is applied you could drive away in a 2017 F-Type for a low-$50k price tag. There aren’t many V-6-equipped 2017 F-Types available, so finding one will be tough and perhaps impossible.

F-Type R models are eligible for a $20,000 discount and F-Type SVR models are eligible for a $30,000 discount.

The program isn’t being advertised but some Jaguar dealers are already offering the discounts on their 2017 stock. At the time of writing, Jaguar Louisville had a 2017 F-Type SVR available for $100,533, down from a MSRP of $130,533.

Audi - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - This is an Audi S1 on tracks and it looks like fantastic fun - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

When Audi decided to take its diminutive A1, it probably figured that an S variant would soon follow. The automaker probably never considered, however, that someone would buy an S1 and stuff a set of tracks in the wheel wells.

Someone did, and all we can say is that we want to give it a go ourselves.

The EA888-powered hot hatch is rated to produce 227 horsepower here. Quattro all-wheel drive is, as you'd expect, also at play. This S1 must have engaged Quattro plusthough. The tracks allow it to rip down the beach as if the sandy ground were nothing more than your average Whole Foods parking lot.
A blustery beachside day is no match for this blue bomber. Next we'd like to see video of the track-equipped Audi S1 attacking powder-filled hills with a snowboard rack on its roof. After that, we're going to need to see the tracks as an available option in the ordering guide for the RS 3 (since we can't get the S1 here in the States).

Adding a set of tracks to your ride isn't cheap. We've seen estimates as low as $5,000 for a set but the more common number seems to be closer to $20,000. That's a lot of coin to make your ride more tank-like. Still, the S1 shown here in the video certainly seems like it would be a ton of fun in the right environment.

Range Rover - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - 2019 Land Rover Range Rover Sport P400e plug-in hybrid first look - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

Land Rover’s Range Rover SUVs, for decades the image of inefficiency and excess, are being transformed into some of the cleanest vehicles on the road.

Land Rover is starting with the Range Rover Sport which for the 2019 model year will offer a plug-in hybrid option: the P400e.

Arriving in showrooms next summer, the Range Rover Sport P400e will kick off the transformation of Jaguar Land Rover’s lineup into a fully electrified one by 2020.

The powertrain consists of a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 and an electric motor which deliver a combined 398 horsepower and 472 pound-feet of torque. The electric motor is integrated with an 8-speed automatic transmission which is then connected to the Range Rover Sport’s standard 4-wheel-drive system.

The addition of an electric motor also required a unique calibration for Land Rover’s Terrain Response 2 off-road driving modes selector. The new calibration distributes torque from the electric motor, which has no creep speed and maximum torque from zero rpm, to all four wheels. This gives greater control during low-speed off-road maneuvers, Land Rover says.

Land Rover quotes a 0-60 mph time of 6.3 seconds and top speed of 137 mph, which isn’t bad for a vehicle of this size and scope. A battery of 13.1-kilowatt-hour capacity means owners can also expect about 30 miles of pure electric range, albeit with lower performance since the electric motor is rated at just 114 hp. EPA-rated numbers will be announced closer to the market launch.

The charging port can be found at the front of the vehicle, although the battery is stored at the rear for optimal weight distribution. You can set the vehicle to start charging at a specific time (ideally during off-peak times). A white light in the charging port signifies the vehicle is connected but indicates that charging has not started, while a blue light shows that timed charging is set but not underway. A flashing green signal shows the car is charging, while a solid green light indicates the battery is fully charged.

2019 Land Rover Range Rover Sport PHEV

The Range Rover Sport PHEV’s arrival will trail that of an updated Range Rover Sport lineup being introduced for the 2018 model year. The updated lineup will arrive in showrooms in early 2018, bringing with it revised styling, new technologies and, for the SVR model, more power.

Note, similar updates, including the addition of a plug-in hybrid option, will eventually make their way onto the larger Range Rover.

Mercedes Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - Mercedes-Benz G550 4x4 Squared review: top tax bracket bruiser - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

2017 Mercedes-Benz G550 4x4 Squared

2017 Mercedes-Benz G550 4x4 Squared

“Hey dude, your car is huuuuge!”

We expected that reaction while driving a vehicle with nearly 18 inches of ground clearance through Washington D.C. What we didn’t expect was someone to ask us if it’s a Hummer, though.
Come on! This is definitely not a Hummer. It’s the Mercedes-Benz G550 4x4 Squared. Remember the G63 6x6? This is its smaller, less powerful, but equally nuts sibling.

Or, to answer a question another curious bystander asked us: the G550 4x4 Squared is not merely a G-Class with an aftermarket lift kit.

Hardcore hardware
Mercedes introduced the G-Class back when the cayenne was only a hot, red chili pepper—not a Porsche. Originally designed for the battlefield, the G hovered above the limits of borders and automotive social classes to become the darling of Beverly Hills. Soaring sales and transaction prices encouraged Mercedes to give the R&D department money to test the limits of the G’s appeal with low-volume models like the 4x4 Squared.

The increased ground clearance mostly comes from a set of portal axles, which are the double-decker bus of the axle world. They also make the G appreciably wider than stock, requiring the use of fenders wide enough for a picnic. They’re made out of carbon fiber to keep weight in check. Every little bit helps in a monster truck of an SUV that comes in at 6,500 pounds.

2017 Mercedes-Benz G550 4x4 Squared

Follow the power flow upstream and you’ll encounter three differential locks, a transfer case, a 7-speed automatic transmission, and a 4.0-liter V-8 fitted with a pair of turbochargers. Closely related to AMG’s ubiquitous V-8, it provides 416 horsepower at 5,250 rpm and 450 pound-feet of torque at 2,250 rpm.
Pretty fly for a big guy

There’s no mistaking the V-8; its exhaust note is as recognizable as a chorus by The Offspring. The eight pistons roar to life before settling into a smooth idle with a low, menacing burble. From there, it’s surprise after surprise.

The first revelation is that the 4x4 Squared is maneuverable once you get used to its considerable width. At 177 inches long, it’s about seven inches shorter than a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. It’s not nerve-racking to drive in everyday, assuming your commute doesn’t end in parking spaces painted with “Compact Only” under them. Mercedes geared the steering for comfort—not GT-like dynamism—so it’s relatively light and doesn’t require much effort.

The second revelation is its acceleration. Lay your foot in the throttle and the G moves with urgency that you wouldn’t expect from a behemoth like this. It’s all the more amazing because the transmission automatically starts in second gear unless the driver manually selects first by pushing the accelerator pedal all the way down to the floor. Speaking of the 7-speed, its shifts are precise and well-timed but not brisk; it exhibits a “leave me alone, I know what I’m doing” attitude when hunting for the next gear up or down.
The G’s composed handling is the third revelation. We wouldn’t take it on a skid pad, and the built-in sport mode doesn’t do much to change our mind about that, but Mercedes’ suspension wizardry does a remarkable job of keeping body roll in check under normal driving conditions. The trade-off is a firm ride that relays every imperfection into the cabin. The seats stop them before they reach the occupants’ spine.
Colossal Pirelli tires wrapped around 22-inch wheels and a model-specific all-steel suspension system with eight dampers and eight springs help the driver make the most of the G’s ground clearance. We can’t think of many obstacles commonly encountered on the trail (or in the parking lot of a suburban mall, for that matter) the 4x4 Squared can’t drive over with ease. Off the pavement, it only takes a minute to forget about the G’s reputation for decadence and appreciate it for what it is: an old-school, no-nonsense off-roader capable of climbing a glacier in fifth gear.

There was one aspect of this G550 we couldn’t shake: its $225,000 price tag. Meandering through the gorgeous Virginia woods on relatively narrow trails was a masochistic experience for the mind. Traffic—even in D.C.—is a controlled environment. There are lanes, lights, and sometimes even turn signals. You’re on our own out in the forest, at the mercy of any rock, tree, dirt bike, or bear that wants a chunk of your conspicuously elephantine luxo-cruiser. Believe us, we don’t want to find out the cost of a replacement fender.

Room with a view

The flat, vertical dash indicates the G is the real deal, not a quack retro-inspired replica of a once-relevant classic model. Mercedes swathed the cabin in leather and Alcantara, and furnished the dashboard with carbon fiber to add a sporty touch. From behind the wheel, it feels like you’re sitting in a Wrangler that went on a shopping spree after winning the lottery. The materials and the build quality are comparable to the ones in the S-Class, and we love the fantastic pneumatic bolsters integrated into the front seats. This is the kind of attention to detail that elevates the G above other, more modern luxury off-roaders.

It’s not as anachronistic as the now-defunct Land Rover Defender, which only got slightly less rudimentary over time, but there are places where its age becomes glaringly evident. Did SUV buyers in 1979 want a cup holder? Nope. Do they in 2017? You bet. Since there’s no room on the dashboard or on the center console, the front cup holder is a flip-up, basketball net-like gizmo bolted to the transmission tunnel side of the passenger footwell. Of course, it’s made with the finest netting and wrapped in hand-stitched leather. “The best or nothing,” as Mercedes often says.

In-car tech isn’t one of the G’s selling points, which is fortunate because it’s certainly not one of its strong points. The infotainment system consists of a screen on top of the dashboard, a controller knob behind the shift lever, and a series of redundant buttons on the center console. Mercedes could free up a considerable amount of real estate in the cabin by switching to a more user-friendly touch screen-based infotainment system.

Heads or tails?
The Mercedes-Benz G550 4x4 Squared exists in diametrically opposed dimensions. It’s the unprincipled chariot fast-living Russian mobsters drive through Moscow on their days off, the zenith of a model synonymous with self-indulgence. It’s also the culmination of an illustrious 38-year production run that’s going to end in the coming months, a concentrate of Mercedes’ knowledge in the off-roader department. When the current-generation G-Class finally enters the pantheon of automotive history, we’ll prefer to remember the G550 4x4 Squared for its original calling in life.

Jaguar - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - Jaguar Future-Type is a familiar vision of a self-driving city car - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

More and more people are predicted to move to large cities in the future. Limited parking spots coupled with congestion will make owning and driving your own car a hassle.

The automakers realize this and seem to have reached a consensus on the solution: self-driving city cars that run around town offering rides. Jaguar is the latest automaker to reveal its take on the idea, following the likes of Chrysler, Honda, Smart and Volkswagen, just to name a few.

Jaguar’s concept is called the Future-Type, and the good news for fans of the brand is that the concept still has a steering wheel. Yes, Jaguar doesn’t see actual driving becoming a thing of the past. Phew.

In the connected world of tomorrow, a fleet of Future-Type-like cars could be available for customers on-demand via a subscription or club membership-like service. The cars would feature flexible seating options, so for example, if you were a small group, you could summon a Future-Type with “social seating,” where the seats face each other.

Jaguar Future-Type concept

Summoning the car is done via Sayer, a steering wheel that doubles as a personal companion and resides with you at all times. Need to be somewhere at a certain time? From the comfort of your living room Sayer will work out when a car needs to arrive at your door and even advise which parts of the journey you might enjoy driving yourself.

Sayer could also play music, book you a table and even know what’s in your fridge. It would also connect with the profiles of other people in your life, such as friends and family, allowing you to easily check what’s happening and stay connected.

Don’t expect to see something like the Future-Type anytime soon. Jaguar envisions it as the type of vehicle we could see around 2040.

“Future-Type offers an insight into the potential for driving and car ownership in the future,” Jaguar design boss Ian Callum said in a statement. “It’s part of our vision for how a luxury car brand could continue to be desirable, in a more digital and autonomous age.”

The Future-Type was unveiled on Thursday at Jaguar’s Tech Fest event in the United Kingdom. The automaker also used the event to announce a commitment to a fully electrified lineup as well as unveil an electric E-Type.

Audi - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - First details on PPE electric car platform for future Audis and Porsches - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

Audi e-tron Quattro concept, 2015 Frankfurt Auto Show

Audi and Porsche, both brands from the Volkswagen Group, have developed separate platforms for their first volume electric cars.

Audi’s platform is the C-BEV which is designed for high-riding vehicles and will appear initially in the e-tron SUV on sale in 2018.

Meanwhile, over at Porsche, engineers have developed the J1 platform for a sedan based on 2015’s Mission E concept. It was recently spied testing and is expected on sale in 2019.

Given how fast the technology is advancing, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that Audi and Porsche are already working on their next electric car platform, this time with development split between the two brands. The greater collaboration is the result of cost cutting measures at the VW Group following the diesel scandal.

Peter Mertens

Speaking recently with Automotive News (subscription required), Audi R&D boss Peter Mertens revealed that the new platform, code-named the Premium Platform Electric, or PPE for short, will spawn three “model families,” two of which will be for Audi.

Mertens hinted that about 60 percent of the models spawned from the platform would be from Audi and the remainder from Porsche. He also hinted that the platform could be used for vehicles in core segments such as those occupied by the Audi A4 and A6.

Interestingly, Mertens also said Audi is looking to reduce the number of internal combustion engines it currently offers, which again should come as no surprise. He questioned the need for 10- and 12-cylinder engines but said V-8s are here to stay for a while still. He also said diesel will be offered in many markets for a while, too.

Porsche CEO Oliver Blume isn’t so supportive of diesels. In July, he said Porsche was evaluating the future of diesel engines and would make a final decision by the end of the decade.

Aston Martin - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - Aston Martin DB4 GT Continuation hits the test track - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

Old trends often fall out of style as the years go by, but the Aston Martin DB4 GT remains as stylish today as it was decades ago.

In fact, Aston Martin will produce another 25 examples of the special variant of the sports car, and the new ones are appropriately called the DB4 GT Continuation.

Ahead of the new DB4 GT's delivery, Aston Martin provided video of the car undergoing tests at Millbrook Proving Ground in the United Kingdom.

1959 Aston Martin DB4 GT

Like the original cars, the DB4 GT Continuation is true to form with all era-appropriate parts and pieces accounted for. Tadek Marek will provide the car's inline-6 engine, paired to a 4-speed manual transmission. The engine makes 340 horsepower, and since the DB4 GT was a lightweight special, the Continuation weighs only 2,706 pounds.

Inside, the cockpit features an FIA-spec roll cage and a fire extinguisher, since the 25 cars will be for track use only. To ensure owners are ready to drive the cars in anger, each owner will also attend Aston Martin’s 2-year driving program, which features professional instructors and track time at some of the world's best-known circuits.

Not that the DB4 GT Continuation is inexpensive, but they are more affordable than an original DB4 GT. Original models command roughly $3.9 million in the current market, though a DB4 GT Prototype in August sold for $6,750,000 during the 2017 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. Aston Martin's limited-run of Continuation cars have all been spoken for, each costing $1.9 million.

BMW - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - E30 M3 does hill climb with screaming 440-HP E46 M3 engine - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

You'll often find builders of hot rods and muscle cars talking about upping the displacement on a given engine.

Taking a Ford 390 and turning into a 428, for example. Are there times when destroking an engine is more appealing to increasing displacement? Yes, and we have the perfect example for you in the form of this BMW hill climb beastie.

It's an E30 that finds the S54 engine from an E46 M3 sitting under its hood. Only this unit has been destroked to 3.0 liters instead of the normal 3.2, and it can rev like a superbike. Okay, not quite as fast or as high as a superbike, but it's quite impressive.

The video description says the engine is making 440 horsepower and capable of running up to 9,600 rpm. That's why it's screaming its way up this hill in a Lebanese championship event. This build is the perfect example of a twitchy, manic, high-revving hill climb monster. It's being driven in a way befitting the nature of the car, and it's doing a damn fine job of getting from hill bottom to hill top as quickly as possible.

This particular hill climb event is almost world rally special stage in nature. Make sure you watch through to at least the 1:30 mark because the Bimmer catches serious air over a crest. And if you thirst for more, here's an equally manic clip of a Mitsubishi Evo in a hill climb.
