BMW - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - 2017 BMW M2 Performance Edition amps up already great car - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

Yesterday, Bimmerpost and BMW Blog spotted order code ZL9 for the 2017 BMW M2 in the U.S. BMW dealership ordering system. It specifies the 2017 M2 Performance Edition. We reached out to a spokesman from BMW, who confirmed that this limited edition package is indeed available to order at this time with an MSRP of $61,695.

The package is limited to 150 units, all painted Alpine White. The cars all come with black kidney grilles, black side gills, titanium exhaust tips, illuminated door sills, and LED door projectors with "Performance Edition" images, all of which are M Performance Accessories. Black mirror caps are also included.
M Performance Accessories also improve the sound and handling. A firmer M Performance coilover suspension is tuned for the M2, and an M Performance exhaust turns up the volume.

Inside, this package subscribes to the less is more approach. The sport seats are manually adjustable and they lack heating and lumbar adjustment. The car has keyless entry, but it doesn't have the comfort access feature that allows you to lock or unlock the vehicle by touching the door handle with the key still in your pocket. The climate control system is single zone, and the audio system is a basic hi-fi system instead of a Harman Kardon unit. The smoker's package is also removed.

Also included is the M Drivers Package, which increases the top speed from 155 to 168 mph and comes with a one-day High Performance Driving class courtesy of BMW.
The transmission? Manual only. Cool.

The standard price for a 2017 BMW M2 is $52,695, so the Performance Edition is a bit pricey. However, the M Performance Accessories can add up quickly and these cars will likely have collector appeal.
Buyers will not be able to order their Performance Editions any other way. With only 150 on offer, get your order in soon if you want one.

Range Rover - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - How the Range Rover has evolved over its lifetime - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

The Range Rover has been the flagship machine for the Land Rover family for decades now. You know it as a wealthy suburbanite mall cruiser but it's actually a wonderfully luxurious and extremely capable four-wheel-drive beast. The history of the Range Rover runs all the way back to 1970, and if you'd like to learn about how the model has evolved over that time then you're in luck.

In the late 1960s, the first Range Rover prototypes were created. These vehicles were disguised by using a badge name called Velar. This was taken from the Italian term "velare," which means to veil. So these were veiled prototypes hiding a bit of what was to come. The first 26 prototypes built wore this Velar badging before the Range Rover name was applied.

After that, the Range Rover was brought to the world as a 1970 model. How long did the first generation last? All the way up through 1996. Initially, Land Rover offered just a two-door body style for the Range Rover, but it eventually added a four-door version in 1981. Production on the second generation began and it was introduced as a 1995 model before bowing out in 2002.

The more familiar and far more upscale style we know today kicked off with the L322 third-generation Range Rover. These were built between 2002 and 2012, and they were fitted with powerful engines and nicer interior spaces. We're now into the fourth generation Range Rover, which is an evolution of the one that first went on sale as a 2013 model. It has continued on with more refinement and upgrades along the way.
Today, there's the upper-crust approved SVAutobiography, which makes Bentley owners think twice about which vehicle they feel like taking out that day. On the other end, you have newly announced

SVAutobiography Dynamic, which makes use of a 550-horsepower supercharged V-8 engine. These are still mighty machines that can tackle just about anything in their way. They also happen to be gorgeous luxury rides inside and out that have come a long way from being considered simple bits of farm equipment.

Audi - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - 2018 Audi RS 3 Sportback revealed ahead of Geneva debut - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

Audi’s RS 3 Sportback has finally received the upgraded powertrain of the all-new RS 3 sedan that debuted last fall at the 2016 Paris auto show.
It means the handsome hatch is now extracting 400 horsepower and 354 pound-feet of torque from its turbocharged 2.5-liter inline-5, all of which is routed to the wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission and all-wheel-drive system.
That’s a healthy jump on the 362 hp and 343 lb-ft that the RS 3 Sportback has been offering since the launch of the current-generation model in 2014. It means the car can now sprint to 62 mph from rest in just 4.1 seconds. The top speed is limited to 155 mph, though on request this limit can be raised to 174 mph.

Along with its extra power, the engine’s weight has been reduced by a substantial 57 pounds via the use of lighter internals, namely a new aluminum crankcase.
The RS 3 Sportback also adopts some of the changes of the updated 2017 A3 range. Tweaks have been made to the lights at both ends and the front bumper and grille now feature a more aggressive design. There’s also a new extended front splitter.
Standard on the RS 3 Sportback is an active exhaust system, a driving modes selector, a widened track with sport-tuned suspension, 12.2-in brake discs at the front axle, and 19-inch wheels with 235/35-size tires at all four corners. Worthwhile options include adjustable dampers, carbon-ceramic brake discs, and RS-spec bucket seats.

Inside, the seats get Nappa leather as standard and are joined by a flat-bottomed steering wheel, numerous “RS” logos and a special RS mode for the available digital instrument cluster where the tachometer is shifted to the center, displaying on either side the readings for torque, g forces and tire pressure. A shift light indicator is also featured when the transmission is operating in manual mode.
Sadly, Audi has no plans to offer the updated RS 3 Sportback in the United States. Instead, we’ll get the RS 3 sedan. It goes on sale this summer, as a 2018 model.
As for the updated RS 3 Sportback, it will be shown next month at the 2017 Geneva auto show and start delivery in select markets in August. The Swiss show opens its doors on March 7 and for more of our coverage simply visit our dedicated hub.

Aston Martin - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - Aston Martin's Answer To Ferrari In The Late 1950s Sounds As Incredible As It Looks - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

Only four Aston Martin DB4 GT Lightweights are known to exist in “build sheet” spec for racing against Ferrari 250GT SWBs on European racing circuits. Fortunately, the one ordered by aviation pioneer Thomas Sopwith is still around to burble and roar for the cameras in Petrolicious’ latest video. Enjoy!

The DB4 GT, which debuted in fall 1959, is considered to be a bridge between the design of the regular DB4 and the DB5 made famous in the early James Bond films, according to Petrolicious. Its wheelbase was shortened, and it featured a lightweight aluminum body and no rear seats. It received a higher-output engine than the standard DB4 as well good for 302 hp.

Only 75 DB4 GTs were ever made, with 19 of those going on to be further modified by Zagato. This one is owned today by Paul Michaels of Hexagon Classics, who drives the car in the video and is an incredibly lucky guy.

Fun tidbit: the “DB” in all the Aston Martin names comes from postwar company owner and managing director David Brown, whose name is on the DB4 GT’s badge. Cue that old “the more you know” PSA bumper.

Mercedes - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City- Learn the 50-year history of Mercedes-AMG - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

Mercedes-AMG has earned quite the name for itself over the years as Mercedes-Benz's performance arm, and for those who have forgotten the past—or never really knew it in the first place—a video is making the rounds showing AMG's roots. The video takes the viewer from AMG’s founding 50 years ago as a performance engine builder to its early motorsport efforts and eventual transition to official performance arm of Mercedes-Benz.

The company, founded by Hans-Werner Aufrecht and Erhard Melcher, was set up in an old mill in 1967, as an “engineering office and design and testing center for the development of racing engines.” The name AMG comes from Aufrecht, Melcher and Aufrecht’s hometown of Großaspach. In 1971, their AMG 300 SEL 6.8 claimed victory completely out of the blue in its class and took second place overall in the 24 Hours of Spa.
Collaboration with Mercedes didn’t really begin until 1990, with the C36 AMG resulting just three years later. In 2005, AMG became a wholly owned subsidiary of Mercedes and just four years later launched its first standalone car, the SLS AMG. The SLS AMG was followed by the GT in 2014. And along with the new car, we saw AMG's name change to Mercedes-AMG, to reflect the connection between the two firms. Around this time, the AMG name was also added to Mercedes' Formula One team.

With 99,235 vehicles delivered in 2016, and the biggest strategic model initiative in the company's history thanks to the new “43” series and the announcement of a hypercar, AMG heads into this anniversary year with record figures—figures some standalone automakers will be envious of.

For a more in-depth look at AMG’s history, watch this previous video from 2013.

Range Rover - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - Rock Out in a Perfectly Restored Range Rover for Just $170K - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

Jaguar Land Rover has a rich heritage of building cool cars, and lately, it’s started up a new tradition of turning that patrimony into patrimoney. Three months after Jaguar relaunched the 1950s-era XKSS, its SUV-slinging sibling has started “Range Rover Reborn,” a program to revamp cars it built in the 1970s for life on today’s roads.

The XKSS program involves making new cars based on old specs, the way the Amish build barns. This scheme, by contrast, is all about restoring decrepit machines that look like they’ve been living in barns, and selling them for truckloads of money.

The British automaker isn’t the first to cash in on people’s appetite for its classic work. Jonathan Ward’s ICON in Southern California has been restoring vintage trucks (among other ancient rides) for years.

JAGUAR

But now the company itself gets a piece of the action. For its program, Land Rover’s starting with a 1978, three-door Range Rover Classic (that’s what they called it, even back then), powered by a 3.5-liter V8 and controlled with a four-speed manual transmission. Everything comes back to original specs—right down to the historically accurate paint job (in this case, Bahama Gold) and interior trim. The company refurbishes the original engine, which means you’ll get to enjoy the old-school, glorious design and almost certainly also the authentic feel of what’s it like to have your carburetor break. Hey, that’s part of the experience.
All you need is $170,000, and maybe a mechanic on retainer.

BMW - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - Video outlines differences between new BMW 5-Series and its predecessor - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

BMW has just introduced a complete redesign for its 5-Series, though to the casual observer the differences between the new car and its predecessor will be hard to spot.

It appears the issue has not gone completely unnoticed at BMW as the automaker has released a video outlining the stylistic differences between the two—inside and out.

Of course, those in the know understand that the redesigned 5-Series is superior to its predecessor in virtually every quantifiable way. For example, the car’s M550i M Performance model already out-accelerates the last M5!

Most of the benefits are derived from the car’s lightweight platform. The lightest version of the car in the United States is the 530i model, which tips the scales at 3,746 pounds, or 137 lb less than the 528i that it replaces.

The redesigned 5-Series has been introduced as a 2017 model. The entry-level model is the 530i whose pricing starts at $52,195, including shipping.

Audi - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - New technique allows Audi to embed symbols within paint - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

Vehicle personalization is all the rage these days and Audi has developed a new technique for painted surfaces that could take off in a big way.

The technique, which will initially be made available on the R8 supercar, enables virtually any symbol to be embedded within a painted surface. The resulting symbol has a matte appearance that contrasts with the surrounding polished surface, and unlike conventional lettering and stickers it remains weather resistant.
Audi uses a special powder that roughens the clear lacquer that protects a painted surface to a depth of a few thousandths of a millimeter so that individual markings become visible. With a template of the desired symbol placed on the car’s surface, the special powder is applied via a spray so that the application is even.

Here we see an “Audi Sport” logo in the clear lacquer applied on top of the carbon fiber side blade of an R8. Through the Audi Exclusive personalization program, R8 buyers will be able to choose any symbol they like to be applied to the car, though only on the side blades at present and only if the desired symbol doesn’t infringe on any trademarks.

Audi says it plans to extend the option to buyers of other models in the future.

It wasn’t long ago that vinyl wraps were everywhere. Perhaps car tattoos applied using this technique, or more conventional methods, are the next big thing.

Aston Martin - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - 2017 Aston Martin DB11: This Is It - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

The 2017 Aston Martin DB11 officially debuts at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show, but that’s not saying much. This is the latest of several image leaks, including a front-end photo just the other week. But unlike we’ve seen prior to now, the most recent crop of photos looks to be a set of factory images.

The latest Aston Martin DB11 seems to have something of a leak problem. First photos of the rear
CarScoops obtained the photos on the Internet and did not cite where, but they look to match the leaked photos we have seen up until this point. Like the leak of the rear end last month, the images feature Aston Martin’s “V12 AML” plates.

Aston Martin went to Spain to shoot another promo video for their upcoming DB11 premiere
We do know that the car will have a 5.2-liter twin-turbo V12 and expectations are for it to crank out about 600 horsepower.

Either way, the wait on the DB11 is almost over, and boy does the future of Aston Martin look good. More pics:

Would you care to take on a weekend project? Here is the twin-turbo 5.2-liter V12 from the Aston Martin DB11, completely disassembled. How hard can it be?

Mercedes - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City-Mercedes "Easy Driver" Super Bowl spot features Peter Fonda, AMG GT Roadster - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

The Coen Brothers are rightfully viewed as directorial geniuses. With such masterpieces as "Fargo," "Oh, Brother, Where Art Thou," "Miller's Crossing," "and "The Big Lebowski" under their belts, their take on the world can range from understated to surreal to hyper real.

It's not often you can get such geniuses to direct your commercial, but Mercedes-Benz has done just that for its Super Bowl ad titled "Easy Driver."

The spot shown here is the 60-second extended cut. The version shown during the Super Bowl on February 5 will be 30 seconds.

The setting is a biker bar filled with an aging clientele. A whitebeard needs his reading glasses to pick Steppenwolf's "Bord to be Wild" on the jukebox, and a quick shot of an "Easy Rider" poster shows the bikers' reverence for Peter Fonda and the lifestyle depicted in that movie.

A lame fight starts to break out, but it's soon interrupted when a biker barges in to announce that several bikes are "blocked in."

It looks like things are going to go sour when the whole bar heads outside to kick some tail, but an older, wiser Peter Fonda has graduated to a new form of transportation and cooler heads prevail. The end of the commercial reveals the ad slogan "Built to be Wild."

It's a cute spot, but we'd like to see a little more of the off-kilter humor that makes the Coen Brothers' movies so great.

Fonda's mode of transportation is the forthcoming AMG GT Roadster. Why that car? "What we are now doing is beginning a process of making AMG a brand in its own right and broadening that audience," said Drew Slaven, Vice President of Marketing for Mercedes-Benz USA.

Mercedes has another tie-in to the big game. Last week's NFC Championship Game marked the last game the host Atlanta Falcons will ever play in the 25-year-old Georgia Dome. Next year, the Falcons, who play the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LI, will open up the new Mercedes-Benz Stadium, which will be the host site for Super Bowl LIII in 2019.
