2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class (E400 4MATIC Cabriolet)

Mercedes-Benz will join a host of other automakers launching car subscription services and announced this month that it will launch "Mercedes me Flexperience."

The service's premise is similar to many other car subscription services from brands including Porsche, Cadillac, and Volvo. For one monthly rate, Mercedes-Benz will include the option to subscribe to up to 12 different cars per year, and the rate includes insurance, maintenance, repairs, and even tire wear. Subscribers will be able to drive up to 36,000 kilometers (around 22,000 miles) per year.

The luxury marque said all vehicle requests, delivery scheduling, and collections will be handled online. Mercedes-Benz will also allow subscribers to pick out exactly what they want for their cars. Powertrain, exterior colors, interior motifs, and features will all be customizable ahead of the vehicles' delivery.
Mercedes-Benz said it will include the A-Class, C-Class, E-Class, and the range-topping S-Class in the program. Pricing was not provided, though with the S-Class as part of the roster, expect premium prices.
Porsche offers two separate tiers for its "Passport" subscription program. One includes less well-equipped vehicles, while the more expensive tier includes more sports cars and premium vehicles. Pricing is $2,000 per month for the lower tier and $3,000 per month for the higher tier.

According to Motoring, If the German program is successful, Mercedes-Benz will launch the Flexperience service in the United States and expand to additional markets at a later date.

Audi - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - V-6-powered Audi R8 likely dead - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

2018 Audi R8

Since 2016, we've been awaiting more news about a V-6 powered Audi R8, which showed up in a leaked product roadmap at the time. Alas, it sounds more than likely that such a car is dead.

According to an Audi spokesperson, there will not be an R8 with a V-6 mounted in the middle, Road & Track reported Tuesday. The unnamed source was blunt in stating "there is no V-6 planned." Boo.
Such a car was likely to house a twin-turbocharged V-6 engine, likely on loan from the RS 5. The engine displaces 2.9 liters and makes 444 horsepower. Since the end of V-8 powered R8 models, it leaves the V-10 engine as the sole option going forward.

There's a bright spot in all of this, however. Spy shots seem to show a hardcore Audi R8 GT is in the pipeline, and it will likely house a more potent version of the V-10 engine that makes 610 hp and 413 pound-feet of torque in V10 Plus guise. For what it's worth, the Lamborghini Huracán Performante churns out 640 hp and 442 lb-ft of torque from its version of the same V-10. The photos also showed a facelifted front and rear end, along with a new lip spoiler and extended side skirts. Massive oval exhaust tips also recall the original R8 GT.

The long-term future for the R8 is a little cloudier. Audi's R&D boss Peter Mertens said in a recent interview that there currently is no planned successor for the second-generation R8, though he hinted that could change. Instead, we know Audi Sport has big plans to launch the e-tron GT electric super sedan, which could end up pulling plenty of performance and technology from the Porsche Mission E's J1 platform.

BMW - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - Proposed BMW X8 might not be a coupe-like SUV - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

BMW X7 iPerformance concept, 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show

BMW will introduce a full-size SUV badged an X7 later this year.

The vehicle was previewed at the 2017 Frankfurt auto show by the X7 iPerformance concept and is designed to go up against the Infiniti QX80s and Mercedes-Benz GLSes of the world.
However, BMW sees demand for an even plusher X8 to fill the—wide—gap between the X7 and the upcoming Cullinan from fellow BMW Group brand Rolls-Royce.

BMW Group R&D boss Klaus Fröhlich said last year that there was potential for such a vehicle in the BMW lineup, especially in China. At the time, it was speculated that the X8 could follow the path of the X4 and X6 and be a coupe-like version of the X7, or it could be a conventional SUV with even more space than the X7.

Now, the BMW Blog has learned from one of its sources that BMW is leaning toward the latter. The priority is to increase space in the rear, a vital factor for China's chauffeur-driven class, and install similar rear seats to what you might find in a high-end 7-Series. Mercedes-Benz is planning a similar strategy with a Maybach version of its redesigned GLS. Land Rover has also followed a similar route with its Range Rover SV Coupe revealed at this month's 2018 Geneva auto show.

BMW last year announced a new strategy for its high-end models. Everything badged a 7 or higher are to feature a historic black and white version of the automaker's logo, along with the company name Bayerische Motoren Werke in full script to highlight BMW’s long history. The X8 could potentially be the most expensive model in the BMW lineup.

A decision on the vehicle is expected to be made later this year.
Stay tuned.

Audi - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - 5 things you need to know about the 2018 Audi SQ5 - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

Crossover SUVs provide practicality for daily adventures, but sometimes a touch of performance is desired. That’s where the 2018 Audi SQ5 comes in.

It’s not a pudgy family truckster flopping into corners, nor is it a track slayer. The 2018 Audi SQ5 is a compact crossover SUV with special sauce.
Here are 5 things you should know about the 2018 Audi SQ5:

2018 Audi SQ5

What’s under the hood?

The Audi SQ5 is powered by a turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 it shares with the S4 and S5, but it sounds different. Upon starting the SQ5 the engine gives a little bark and then settles into a burble. The sound? It’s a cross between the German automaker’s turbocharged inline-5 and the 2.7-liter twin-turbo V-6 from the early 2000s S4.
This engine is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission with a torque converter, but it acted more like Audi’s dual-clutch transmissions. It’s programmed to shift with authority and make clear when it’s swapped gears.

2018 Audi SQ5

Still tight
The last-generation Q5 and sportier SQ5 were never known for their packaging, and the new 2018 SQ5 is no different. Put a rear-facing car seat in back and the front seat lacked leg room. Taking family road trips will warrant the larger Q7. Rear seat head room is nothing to write home about, but 6-footers will be fine— just duck on the way in.

2018 Audi SQ5

Fantastic tech
Like most modern Audis, the SQ5 is a standout with its infotainment setup. The available 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, dubbed “Virtual Cockpit,” is configurable and can show Google Earth across the entire display. The MMI infotainment controller includes quick buttons to access certain functions, a rotary controller, and a touchpad for entry but no touchscreen. The screen is is 8.3 inches and is attached to the dashboard like a stationary iPad, unfortunately. The larger Q7’s implementation is better with the ability to hide the screen when it’s not wanted at the touch of a button.

2018 Audi SQ5

Convenience at a touch
Opt for the S Sport package for $3,000 to get red brake calipers, sport adaptive air suspension, sport rear differential, and a surprisingly helpful feature: a button on the driver side of the cargo area that instantly drops the SQ5s height to make loading and unloading heavy objects easier. While not the reason most opt for the S Sport Package—the sport rear differential really makes a difference in pulling the SQ5 around corners—it’s a feature that is a nice surprise, and will be a delight for many in certain daily situations.

2018 Audi SQ5

It’s quick, not fast
Mash the skinny pedal to summon 354 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. The power is strong, but not overwhelming. With a quoted 0-60 mph time of 5.1 seconds the SQ5 won’t be called slow, except by supercar owners. There’s more than enough oomph to ferry all passengers and gear onboard to the local Starbucks or gym after the morning business meeting. Looking for fast? Find an RS badge packing more firepower.

Jaguar - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - IUber-rare Jaguar XJR-15 stops by Jay Leno's Garage - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

Jay Leno is a very lucky guy. Not only does he have one of the best car collections on the planet, it seems like every day someone is taking a rare machine to his famous garage for a personal inspection. The latest someone is a man by the name of Jasbir Dhillon, who recently visited with an uber-rare Jaguar XJR-15.
The XJR-15 isn't as widely known as its more famous successor, the XJ220. That's probably because the XJR-15 was a joint effort between Jaguar and Tom Walkinshaw Racing to use the 1988 24 Hours of Le Mans-winning Jaguar XJR-9 race car's underpinnings in something resembling a road car. Called in to design the body was none other than Peter Stevens, who would later go on to design the McLaren F1.
Production was announced in late 1990 and the first XJR-15 was delivered the following year. It weighed 2,315 pounds and was endowed with awesome handling, an excellent power-to-weight ratio, race-proven reliability, and a 215 mph top speed.

The car was essentially a race car that barely passed as a street car. It would get so loud inside that a special intercom system with a pair of headsets was incorporated in the design. Making all of the noise was a 6.0-liter V-12, tuned to deliver 450 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque. The engine actually formed a structural piece of the car itself, and the body was built using Kevlar and carbon composites for added strength. Oh, you thought the McLaren F1 was the first road car to do that? Seems like Jaguar was just a step ahead in that game.

Jaguar and TWR built a tick over 50 examples of the XJR-15 in total. Of that run, just 27 were released as road-going versions, each priced at close to a $1 million. The cars rarely come up for sale and when they do, they don't fetch as much money as you'd expect for something this powerful and rare. The last one that sold went for only $350,000.

Aston Martin - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - New Aston Martin Vantage race car ready to take on 2018/2019 WEC season - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

Aston Martin has a new Vantage on its hands, and that means the Aston Martin Racing motorsport department gets a new platform on which to build its challenger for the GTE Pro class of the World Endurance Championship.

Aston Martin revealed the new Vantage GTE alongside its road car cousin late last year. Both are powered by a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 but the race car benefits from numerous upgrades not only to the powertrain but to the chassis and aerodynamics as well. Just some of these upgrades include a 6-speed sequential, carbon fiber driveshaft, a multi-plate clutch, uprated brakes and an adjustable limited-slip differential.

Aston Martin Racing will field two of the cars in the 2018/2019 WEC season, whose first race is the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium on May 5. Both cars will also contend the 24 Hours of Le Mans, which features twice in the 2018/2019 season, once near the start of the season and the second time at the end.

The so-called “super” season was necessary to accommodate the WEC's switch to a split-year calendar where the Le Mans race serves as the final showdown.

2019 Aston Martin Vantage

In a revised driver lineup, 3-time Le Mans winner Darren Turner joins former GTE Pro champions Nicki Thiim and Marco Sørensen in the No. 95 Vantage GTE. They will be joined by new recruits Alex Lynn and Maxime Martin, as well as Le Mans class winner Jonny Adam in the No. 97 car.

All six drivers have played a role in the extensive development program of the new Vantage GTE, which has now clocked up more than 10,500 miles of testing over the winter. Having focused on durability for much of this time, the team is now working on the performance and tire development phase of the program ahead of the WEC Prologue at Circuit Paul Ricard on April 6.

The new car has big shoes to fill as the previous-generation V8 Vantage GTE scored multiple wins since its 2012 debut, including a class win in the 2017 24 Hours of Le Mans.

In addition to the new Vantage GTEs, Aston Martin Racing will also field the previous V8 Vantage GTE in the GTE Am class with drivers Paul Dalla Lana, Mathias Lauda and Pedro Lamy.

Range Rover - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - 2020 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque spy shots - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

Land Rover took a gamble with the Range Rover Evoque in that the vehicle eschewed serious off-roading capability in favor of a blend of design and luxury. It’s a gamble that paid off as the Evoque has attracted plenty of customers that previously wouldn’t have considered one of the British marque’s vehicles.
It’s hard to believe the Evoque has been on sale since 2012, as the vehicle still looks and feels fresh. Nevertheless, Land Rover is planning a second-generation Evoque and we’ve just spotted a prototype (earlier shots showed a test mule).

2020 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque test mule spy shots - Image via S. Baldauf/SB-Medien

It’s immediately clear that inspiration for the design comes from the stunning new Range Rover Velar. The rest of the vehicle looks like the current Evoque, albeit with some of the sharper creases smoothened out. Note, the prototype is for a 5-door model and we hear there won’t be a repeat of the current 3-door.
The layout of the controls in the cabin are unchanged from the current model, though most of the actual controls seen here are still test units. Expect the Velar’s dual-screen center stack to feature in the new Evoque.

The underlying platform is Land Rover’s LR-MS platform found in the current Evoque, as well as the Discovery Sport. Expect the platform to be updated for the new Evoque with lighter materials and alternative powertrain capability. In fact, we hear mild hybrid and even plug-in hybrid tech will be offered.
It doesn’t appear that there will be any significant change when it comes to the size of the new Evoque, which makes sense as the Velar is there to fill the gap between the current Evoque and Range Rover Sport. We’ve also heard that an all-new model could be added below the Evoque.

We’re currently expecting the new Evoque on sale in 2019, as a 2020 model.
Stay tuned for updates as development continues.

Mercedes Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - Mercedes-AMG A35 tipped to arrive with 335 hp, electric compressor - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

2018 Mercedes-Benz A-Class

AMG will offer two states of tune for its next-generation compact cars. Still sitting at the top will be a 45 series but below this will be a new 35 series, meaning it's about to get even easier to park a new AMG on your driveway.

AMG’s most affordable model at present in the United States is the CLA45, which starts at a little over $50k. An eventual CLA35 should slot in below this.

2019 Mercedes-Benz A-Class sedan spy shots - Image via S. Baldauf/SB-Medien

However, the first member of the 35 series will be an A35 hot hatch based on the recently revealed fourth-generation A-Class. Unfortunately, we won't see the car as no A-Class hatches are coming here, but we should get its mechanical package in a new A-Class sedan as well as in next-generation versions of the CLA and GLA. We could also see it in a new GLB SUV.

According to Australia's Motor, the A35 will sport a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 with approximately 335 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque, with drive going to all four wheels. This would make it a more premium alternative to cars like the Ford Focus RS, Honda Civic Type R and Volkswagen Golf R.

The A35 is also said to be getting an electric compressor to build up boost pressure at low revs. An electric compressor is used to add boost pressure until a conventional exhaust-driven turbo takes over, thus helping to eliminate turbo lag. AMG already uses the technology in its new 53 series.

Motor reports that the A35 will debut sometime this year, perhaps as early as next month's 2018 Geneva International Motor Show where the fourth-generation A-Class hatch will be shown publicly for the first time. Fans of the A45 will have to wait a little while longer for the new generation. The hard hitter is said to be coming only in mid-2019. The wait will be worth it, however, as the car is expected to arrive with more than 400 hp on tap, up from the 375 hp of today's model.

Audi - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - 2019 Audi A6 revealed: the key(less) to new luxury? - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

The new 2019 Audi A6 was mostly telegraphed.

2019 Audi A6
2019 Audi A6

The luxury four-door sedan that was revealed Tuesday (although leaked earlier) follows the same jabs that the larger 2019 Audi A8 and 2019 Audi A7 threw first with a mid-size uppercut from Ingolstadt. The A6 combines technology found in the opulent full-sizer and sultry sportback with a raft of fuel-saving features.
Whether the looks of the new sedan are a knockout, we'll have to wait to see.

Power, planted
Audi detailed two engines for the A6, although only one is likely headed to the U.S. A 3.0-liter turbocharged V-6 likely will be the first available engine in the States, rated at 340 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. A 7-speed dual-clutch automatic will be standard in Europe for the new A6, although it's possible that an 8-speed unit is swapped when it makes the trip overseas. According to Audi, the A6 will sprint to 62 mph in 5.1 seconds when equipped with the gas engine. A turbodiesel initially will be offered in Europe, but it's not likely in the U.S. because reasons.

All-wheel drive is standard equipment on the A6, and an optional sport differential will be made available for certain models. For the first time, the A6 will feature four-wheel steering that can dial in up to 5 degrees of counter-steering at slow speeds for better maneuverability, or in concert with the front wheels at high speeds for better handling.

The new A6 rides atop a stiffer frame, with a mixture of steel and aluminum in body panels and suspension components for lighter weight. Audi will offer its variable steering ratio system in the A6, which can vary quickness from an impossibly fast and agile 9.5:1, to a lax 16.5:1 for comfortable long-distance cruising.
Like the A7 and A8, the A6 should arrive in the U.S. with a standard mild-hybrid powertrain that cuts fuel consumption in several ways, including "sailing" up to 100 mph, or a start/stop system than can cut idling while braking at speeds up to 13 mph.

Smartphone tech
The A6 features Audi's newest MMI infotainment system, cribbed from the A7. A 12.3-inch driver information cluster will be available in the A6 and can complement a 10.1-inch touchscreen for infotainment and an 8.6-inch touchscreen for climate controls, when equipped.
Screen size isn't the only trick in the A6; in Europe, the sedan can be started without a key—just an Android smartphone.

It's unclear if that last feature makes the trip across the pond but it's worth noting that when the 2019 Audi A8 was announced, it included self-driving features that weren't yet entirely legal for U.S. roads. Audi, along with other carmakers, led a congressional push for exceptions that paved the way for those features in the A8.

Aside from acts of Congress, the A6 includes available safety features such as active lane control and adaptive cruise control, parking assist, vehicle-to-infrastructure hardware, and a raft of sensors and cameras that could help the A6 avoid crashes.

Inside, the A6 is larger with more room for passengers and cargo, and interior lighting in up to 30 different shades. Audi notes that the trunk of the A6 will hold two golf bags simultaneously.

 2019 Audi A6
Looks to chill
The A6 sports conservative styling next to the A7, and the overall look is evolutionary for the sedan. Following cues from the A4 and A5, the A6 is sharper than its predecessor with deeper creases and a bulging hood.

Audi skipped the A4/A5's clamshell hood opening for the A6, but the larger sedan offers exterior lighting borrowed from tonier models. The A6 has its own lighting "signature" in the front and rear that takes cues from the larger cars, although it's unclear if the A6 will offer the same startup routine as the bigger sedans.
The A6 should make its first appearance at the 2018 Geneva auto show next month and will go on sale in Germany in June.

BMW - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - BMW M8 Gran Coupe concept rumored for Geneva debut - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

BMW 8-Series Concept, 2017 Frankfurt Auto Show

We'd already suspected we'd see the production version of the BMW 8-Series make its formal debut at the 2018 Geneva motor show, but a new rumor suggests we may see another 8-Series variant in concept form as well.

BMW Blog reported on Thursday that Geneva will play host to the debut of the M8 Gran Coupe concept. We do expect to see some sort of M concept in Geneva, but it could very well be the regular M8 coupe. So far, we know BMW plans for an 8-Series coupe, an 8-Series convertible, and an M8. Other variants are far from confirmed just yet.

The report said BMW will use the M8 Gran Coupe as a design study, meaning technical details will be limited. However, it's quite likely the M5's 4.4-liter twin-turbo V-8 engine will lurk under the hood. The story also alleged the M8 Gran Coupe will feature a new ZF 8-speed automatic transmission, and 0-62 mph should happen in around 3.0 seconds.

This isn't the first time we've heard about a Gran Coupe model, either. Last year, BMW Blog also reported a regular 8-Series Gran Coupe was scheduled for launch in late 2019. Production of the 8-Series will likely begin later this year ahead of a 2019 launch as a 2020 model vehicle. The most specific intel pegged an 8-Series Gran Coupe for a debut in the third quarter of 2019.

BMW is said to be keeping the M8 Gran Coupe concept a surprise and will not provide details online ahead of time. If it's true, we'll have the answer in just a couple weeks. The Geneva motor show opens on March 6.

Jaguar - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - Ian Callum explains the design of the Jaguar I-Pace - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

Jaguar's I-Pace is finally here, and as expected the vehicle is an almost exact carbon copy of the concept bearing the same name that we saw unveiled at the 2016 Los Angeles auto show.

Responsible for the design is Jaguar design director Ian Callum who took inspiration from the Jaguar C-X75 supercar concept of 2010 when first putting pen to paper for the I-Pace project. This is evident in the wave-like waistline, cab-forward proportion, and the design of the air curtains in the front fascia.

For the interior, Callum ensured that the I-Pace maintained physical controls for important vehicle functions instead of relying solely on touchscreens. That's why you'll still find handy knobs and buttons in the I-Pace.
The I-Pace will reach showrooms later this year, as a 2019 model. It will boast a 240-mile range from its 90-kilowatt-hour battery, a combined output of 394 horsepower and 512 pound-feet of torque from two electric motors, all-wheel drive, and a 0-60 mph sprint of 4.5 seconds.

Pricing will be announced at the debut at the 2018 Geneva International Motor Show, which starts March 6. For more coverage, head to our dedicated hub.

Aston Martin - Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - See the first street-legal Aston Martin Vulcan hit the road - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

There are only 24 Aston Martin Vulcans in existence and so far just one of them can be legally driven on the street.

With Aston Martin’s blessing, British motorsport and engineering firm RML Group has completed the first road car conversion for the track-only supercar.

It’s no easy task as unlike the rival Ferrari FXX K and McLaren P1 GTR track cars, the Vulcan isn’t derived from a road car so getting one to street-legal status has involved significantly more effort than the similar road car conversion for the P1 GTR that was conducted by Lanzante Motorsport.

Thankfully, RML Group has plenty of experience in building wild cars for street use. This is the same company after all that built the Nissan GT-R-powered Juke-Rsearlier this decade.

Aston Martin Vulcan road car conversion

You can already see that the Vulcan has been fitted with a set of headlights from a DB11. The side mirror caps were also borrowed from the Aston grand tourer. But as we learn in this video from YouTube channel Lovecars, there are many more modifications under the skin. Most of these have been implemented for safety reasons, as well as ensuring the car can handle ordinary roads.

The list includes suspension, steering and brake changes, as well as tweaks to the 6-speed sequential transmission, the latter to make launches smoother. There are also new indicator lamps as well as a clear lens to preserve those signature LED taillights. The body work also needed to be changed to reduce the overhangs and a lift kit was installed to help raise the ride height some 30 millimeters. The cooling systems for the Vulcan’s monster 7.0-liter V-12 also needed to be upgraded as the car will now be required to stay cool in stop-and-go driving.

It should be noted that it’s easier to make a track car legal in the United Kingdom and Europe than in the United States due to single vehicle type approval rules over there, so RML’s conversion may not be applicable for the handful of Vulcans on these shores.

An additional 3-4 Vulcan owners are also expected to have their cars converted for street use. Given the popularity of the service, don’t be surprised if a few owners of the track-only version of the upcoming Aston Martin Valkyrie also call on RML to have their cars converted for street use.
