VW - Repair and Service Redwood City - Challenging EV climate means VW ID.7 no longer coming to US - Bosch European (650) 368-3000

2025 Volkswagen ID.7

The Volkswagen ID.7 electric liftback, first shown in 2022 and initially confirmed for the U.S. market for the 2025 model year, will no longer be sold here.

The news was first reported on Jan. 27 by The Car Guide and later confirmed to Motor Authority by a VW spokesman.

The spokesman cited an “ongoing challenging EV climate” as the reason for the ID.7's cancellation in the U.S. and the rest of North America but also confirmed that the automaker has additional new EVs in the pipeline for this region.

Traditional sedans and liftbacks with sedan-like proportions are also unpopular in the current market as buyers flock to SUVs and pickup trucks. VW last year dropped the Arteon liftback earlier than planned after it suffered for years with dismal sales, averaging less than 3,000 units annually.

The ID.7, which shares its MEB platform with the ID.4 compact crossover and the recently launched ID.Buzz minivan, was originally scheduled to go on sale in the U.S. in 2024. VW announced a delay for the vehicle last May.

The ID.7 is also available as the ID.7 Tourer station wagon in some markets, though this version was never planned for U.S. sale.

In most markets, the ID.7 is offered with 77-kwh and 86-kwh battery options, though the U.S. was only set to receive the smaller unit. Buyers can also choose between rear- and all-wheel drive, with peak output rising to 335 hp in a sporty GTX model.

VW said it is still committed to electric mobility in the U.S. Its parent company, Volkswagen Group, is also moving forward with the launch of the U.S.-focused EV brand Scout, whose Terra pickup truck and Traveler SUV are scheduled to enter production at a new plant in South Carolina in 2027. However, in January, Scout's CEO revealed that most reservations so far have been for models with a series plug-in hybrid range extender. He attributed this trend to a lack of charging infrastructure rather than opposition to EV technology.

Audi - Repair and Service Redwood City - 2026 Audi A7 Avant spy shots: A6 wagon's replacement spotted - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

A prototype for a new Audi A7 Avant wagon has been spied again, revealing many new details.

The vehicle is being developed alongside a new A7 sedan in an expanded A7 family due to start arriving from early 2025. It isn't clear if the standard A7 Avant will reach the U.S., but the sedan will likely make it to these shores as a 2026 model, perhaps alongside planned A7 Allroad and RS 7 Avant models. It also isn't clear whether an A7 Sportback liftback will be launched to replace the current A7 Sportback.

The A7 Avant will directly replace the current A6 Avant which will bow out soon. Similarly, the current A6 sedan will be replaced by the A7 sedan. The change is coinciding with the A6 nameplate being used for the new A6 E-Tron electric range.

A similar strategy was introduced for the redesigned A5 range which arrived earlier this year to replace the current A4 range. Expect any future A4 models to run on batteries. It's all due to a naming shift announced by Audi last year, in which electric models will feature an even number in their names and names for models with an internal-combustion engine will carry an odd number.

Audi hasn't mentioned plans for the next A7, but expect the automaker to use an updated version of the MLB platform, known as the PPC (Premium Platform Combustion). Audi plans to phase out combustion models in most markets later this decade and is therefore unlikely to invest in a new ICE platform for the next A7.

The prototype for the A7 Avant shows a sportier, more sculpted design than the current A6 Avant. A large, protruding grille sits up front, while at the rear are wide, muscular hips that integrate side vents below the taillights. Interestingly, it looks like Audi also plans a return to exposed exhaust tips, though only on one side of the rear fascia in lesser models, like the standard A7 Avant.

Yellow warning stickers on some of the prototypes point to electrified powertrains being tested, likely a plug-in hybrid setup.

Audi is also out testing a redesigned Q7 midsize SUV, which is also expected to offer gas and plug-in hybrid powertrains.
