Mercedes - Repair and Service Redwood City - 2022 Mercedes-Benz AMG S63e spy shots: Plug-in hybrid super sedan on the way - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

new generation of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class was revealed last September, but the version most Motor Authority readers will be interested in, the Mercedes-Benz AMG S63, was notably missing.

That's because AMG has some major changes pegged for its full-size super sedan, a prototype for which has been spotted again. The tester has all the signature AMG traits like four square-shaped exhaust tips, lowered suspension, and a performance tire and brake package.

The new S63 is expected to become a plug-in hybrid badged the S63e, and it should eventually be joined by a new S73e replacing the old V-12-powered S65. Crucially, both variants are expected to feature a V-8 under the hood. Recall, AMG gave a sendoff for the V-12 last year with the S65 Final Edition.

A similar powertrain setup is expected to be fitted to both fast sedans, specifically a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 paired with a single electric motor and drive sent to all four wheels. Such a setup was previewed in 2017's AMG GT concept, which generated 805 hp.

The S63e should have around 700 hp, with 134 hp coming from the electric motor. The S73e should have the full 805 hp, with its electric motor generating 201 hp.

The outgoing S63 has 603 hp while the last S65 came with 621 hp, so we should be looking at a huge step in performance. A pure electric range is expected with the new setup.

Note, the high-performance plug-in hybrid powertrain is expected to debut shortly in a new GT 4-Door Coupe variant. The S-Class will likely be the next recipient, after which we will likely see the powertrain in a variant of the next-generation SL-Class.

While AMG no longer offers a V-12, S-Class buyers seeking the big engine will be able to opt for it in the new Mercedes-Maybach S-Class. The Maybach-enhanced S-Class debuted last November, albeit with a V-8 only.

Here in the United States, the new S-Class reaches showrooms in the spring as a 2021 model, initially in S500 and S580 grades. The Maybach S-Class arrives in mid-2021 and the first AMG version should arrive in late 2021 or early the following year.

Behold the new BMW M8 race car that will be taking to top circuits around the globe in 2018.

The car is still heavily camouflaged but it’s easy to make out the general shape. And take away the pumped fenders and aerodynamic elements and you’re pretty much looking at the new BMW 8-Series coupe due on the market in late 2018 or early the following year.

BMW confirmed it was working on an M8 race car in May, when it revealed a prototype for a new M8 road car. The two are being developed in parallel, just like Ford did with its GT supercar.

BMW is developing the M8 race car to both GTE and GT Le Mans (GTLM) specifications for the respective World Endurance Championship and United SportsCar Championship. The car will be replacing the current M6-based race car in the latter.

Not only does it mean BMW is returning to the 24 Hours of Le Mans, as the French classic is the highlight of the WEC, but it also means we’ll see the new M8 race car compete against cars based on the Aston Martin Vantage, Chevrolet Corvette, Ferrari 488, Porsche 911, and the aforementioned Ford GT.

These teaser photos show the M8 race car in GTE specification. They were taken during an initial shakedown test at the Lausitzring near the German city of Leipzig. On hand to test the car were BMW DTM drivers Martin Tomczyk and Maxime Martin.

“The BMW M8 GTE is good to drive from the outset, and it is easy for us drivers to work out the way it handles, which is important,” Tomczyk said after the initial 3-day test. “We got a lot of kilometers under our belt, and gathered a lot of data.”

There are still many more tests to undergo, including at circuits in North America. The competition debut will take place at the opening round of the 2018 United SportsCar Championship, next January’s 24 Hours of Daytona. A reveal, however, should take place in late 2017

Range Rover Service, Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - Land Rover planning even more luxurious, personalized Range Rovers - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

Range Rover L Autobiography Black

It used to be that if you wanted a luxury SUV, there was only one name that you needed to know, and that was Range Rover. These days, of course, the market is flush with luxed-out sport-utes and crossovers, but don't think that Land Rover is about to take it all lying down. No, Jaguar Land Rover is fully intent on making the most luxurious SUVs on the market.

Over the past several years, the Range Rover sub-brand has gone from one model to three, and the top of the line is the
Range Rover L Autobiography Black pictured above. With a stretched wheelbase and first-class cabin space, the kind-of-the-hill will set you back a princely $185,000. But Land Rover reportedly has more in store.

According to LR designer Gerry McGovern in speaking to our subcontinental compatriots at Indian Autos Blog, Land Rover is planning on marketing individual customization to its most wealthy clients. The Land Rover Individual Products Division is poised to follow the lead set by that other British luxury automaker represented by the initials RR in allowing those with the means to customize every aspect of their vehicle.

The overwhelming majority of
Rolls-Royce buyers reportedly opt for some level of personalization, and Land Rover seems intent on cashing in on that market as well. Whether sister-brand Jaguar follows suit will likely depend on how its off-road compatriot fares in this department.

Audi Service, Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - Man makes record-setting drive across the US in 28 hours, 50 minutes - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

Ed Bolian and his cross-country Mercedes-Benz CL55 AMG

Records, as they say, are made to be broken. Whether that's cramming the most hot dogs down your gullet, running a faster mile, or yes, driving across the United States, odds are that there's someone out there wants to eat more, run faster or drive harder. Speaking of that last example, the record for driving from a set location on the east coast, in particular the Red Ball Garage in Manhattan to the Portofino Hotel in Redondo Beach, CA, has been one that has fascinated gearheads since a guy named Cannonball Baker made the trek from New York to LA in 53 hours, 30 minutes, in 1933.

The competition saw its glory days when
Car and Driver's Brock Yates came up with the Cannonball Baker Sea-To-Shining Sea Memorial Trophy Dash (more affectionately known as the Cannonball Run), although the record was most recently set by Alex Roy and his 32-hour, seven-minute trek behind the wheel of a BMW M5 in 2006. Now, there's a new champion, who made the trip from east to west in a scarcely imaginable 28 hours and 50 minutes, behind the wheel of a 2004 Mercedes-Benz CL55 AMG. That's works out to an average speed of 98 miles per hour over the course of 2,813.7 miles.

His name is Ed Bolian, and Jalopnik has a writeup of the epic voyage that details everything from the history of the Cannonball Run to Bolian's preparation and trouble finding co-drivers, to the trip itself. It is well worth a read.

Range Rover Service, Repair and Consignment Sales Redwood City - Range Rover unveils most expensive model - Bosch European Redwood City - (650) 368-3000

The new Range Rover, which will be available in a premium Autobiography Black version, will be delivered to UK customers in August 2014 and cost £140,000

The most expensive and luxurious Range Rover ever created by the British 4X4 firm is revealed today – with a right royal $208,000 price tag to match.

The target audience for the sumptuous off-roader is royalty – both the blue-blooded real and the ‘tinsel-town’ Hollywood variety - as well as ministers and senior politicians and top sporting stars.
The car will be the first Range Rover with a long wheel-base aimed at giving A-list passengers extra legroom while they are driven by their chauffeurs

After his birth, baby Prince George arrived back from hospital to Kensington Palace with Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge in a Range Rover – after his father skillfully strapped him into  his child seat

The new range-topping super-luxury Autobiography Black derivative of the Range Rover offers rear occupants fully adjustable reclining first class airline style seats with in-built massager, champagne chiller, individual electronic tables in black leather, mood lighting in ten colours, as well as a range of luxurious leather, wood and other interior trim.

Despite its name, it will also be available in white and other colours, as ‘Black’ is a term used in the automotive industry to denote a prestige model.
The interior will feature leather and wood trims along with mood lighting and programmable settings for each seat

For the first time in 20 years Jaguar Land Rover is also offering customers a long wheel-base version of the Range Rover – giving five and a half inches of extra legroom to occupants in a bid to capture more of the limousine market for chauffeured VIPs.

A Land Rover spokesman said: ‘This will be the most expensive and luxurious Range Rover ever.’

It is powered by a 5.0 litre supercharged V8 petrol engine which propels it from rest to 60mph in just 5.5 seconds to a top speed of 140mph.

The most luxurious Range Rover Autobiography Black makes its world debut at the Dubai International Motor Show on November 5 and will be available in long wheel-base form only in the UK.
All seats come complete with massagers, the rear chairs can recline like First Class airline seats and there is also a champagne chiller

It has been designed and engineered by Jaguar Land Rover’s new Engineered To Order division to combine luxury, design and 4X4 performance.

It and other long wheel-base models will then appear later in November at the Los Angeles Motor Show in the US and at the Guangzhou motor show in  China – both vital and booming markets for the UK luxury car maker.

Land Rover said: ‘The first Range Rover long wheel-base in 20 years will cater for a growing group of consumers looking for the ultimate sports utility vehicle and a unique alternative to the traditional long wheelbase saloon cars.

'It represents the pinnacle of desirability to bring even higher levels of refinement to the world’s finest luxury sports utility vehicle.’
As well as enjoying all that extra space, rear passengers can also enjoy 10.2in television screens behind the blacked-out windows

Range Rover is already the car of choice for celebrities arriving at red carpet events and film premieres and Jaguar Land Rover hope the long wheel-base and Autobiography Black versions will be ‘even more appealing’.

Daniel Craig arrived at the Skyfall Bond premiere in a Range Rover. Last week Hollywood actor Chris Hemsworth arrived at the Thor premiere in one. Brad Pitt is currently filming in the UK and has been spotted being driven to and from Pinewood studios in a Range Rover.

One insider said: ‘The new long wheel-base version is also expected to be a big hit with royalty, top politicians and diplomats who need a chauffeur vehicle which is luxurious but safe.

'When the Duke of Cambridge collected the Duchess and Prince George from hospital his choice of vehicle was a Range Rover.’

First customer deliveries of Range Rover long wheel-base versions will be from March 2014 with Autobiography Black deliveries commencing in August 2014.

A ‘green’ Range Rover Hybrid derivative will also become available later in 2014. It is the first Range Rover long wheel-base since the Range Rover LSE which ran from 1992 to 1994.

John Edwards, managing director of the Individual Products Division said: ‘This exclusive vehicle offers our customers an unrivalled and luxurious driving experience that provides a seamless integration between the needs of business and leisure.’

Phil Popham, group marketing director for Jaguar Land Rover said: ’The Range Rover Autobiography Black is our most luxurious specification yet.

'It epitomises sophisticated design with immaculate attention to detail. The subtle, elegant and luxurious finishing touches combine with a first class experience for both driver and passengers to deliver new levels of exclusivity to our customers.’

Land Rover design director Gerry McGovern, said: ’The Range Rover Autobiography Black is an intensely design focused response to our customers’ desire for more choice and exclusivity.

'It represents the pinnacle of desirability in the world of luxury inhabited by our Range Rover customers.’
